The Countess of Wessex and Premier to join
Mrs. Onley, women leaders on trip to Ontarios North

Toronto, September 15, 2014. Her Royal Highness The Countess of Wessex will join
Her Honour Mrs. Ruth Ann Onley on September 17 to 19, 2014 during a three-day visit to
Northern Ontario, with stops in Kitchenuhmaykoosib Inninuwug (KI)a fly-in Aboriginal
communityand North Bay. The Countess and Mrs. Onley will be accompanied by the
Hon. Kathleen Wynne, Premier of Ontario, Lieutenant Governor-designate Ms. Elizabeth
Dowdeswell, and a delegation of women business and community leaders.
This visit further highlights the CrownFirst Nations relationship while acknowledging and
celebrating aboriginal achievements and youth leadership. Notably, this delegation of women
leaders representing the cultural, business, academic, and philanthropic sectors will have the
opportunity to engage firsthand in exchanges with First Nations communities and leadership.
These exchanges will supplement current activities aimed at fostering information sharing and
collaboration between Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal Ontarians.
This is the Countess 12th visit to Canada and her first to a fly-in community in Ontario.
Out of Mrs. Onleys 23 visits to 13 Aboriginal communities in Northern Ontario, this is her third
to KI.
Itinerary

Kitchenuhmaykoosib Inninuwug (KI) Thursday, September 18
Visit with community and youth leaders Closed to media
Following a welcoming ceremony, the group will tour the community school and meet with
student leaders. First Nations elders then host the group for tea, followed by lunch with Chief
Donny Morris and Council. The afternoon plan includes tours of the signing site of Treaty 9
(J ames Bay Treaty), the health centre, and other sites. The day concludes with a traditional
feast hosted by community members, and campfire discussion with youth leaders. The group
spends the night in KI.
North Bay Friday, September 19, 2:30 p.m.
Visit to Nipissing University, awards presentation Media opportunity
The Countess of Wessex and Mrs. Onley will attend a symposium on First Nations Education
and presentation of The Duke of Edinburghs Gold Awards. The Countess and Premier will
deliver remarks.
