Easter Chick

You will need:

Scraps of DK yarn (you can normally get around 6

chicks out of 50g) I’ve used King Cole Smooth
here.
3.25/3.5mm needles (you want a nice tight knit)
Darning & Sewing Needle
Felt
Thread for eyes
Egg for filling (I normally use a Cadbury Creme
Egg)

Abbreviations:

K Knit
KFB Knit into the Front and Back of the stitch (increases 1 stitch)
K2Tog Knit two stitches together (decreases 1 stitch)

Pattern:

Cast on 24 Stitches (using thumb method)

K 2 rows
KFB into first stitch of the row, K to end until you have 36 stitches on the needle
K 2 rows
Cast off 11 stitches, K to end
Cast off 11 stitches, K to end (14 stitches left on needle)
K 12 rows
K2Tog across whole row (7 stitches)
Snip yarn leaving a few inches to thread through the 7 remaining stitches and then sew up your chick
by folding in half and not sewing up cast on edge
Snip a square of felt and fold in half diagonally, sew on chick face as a beak. Sew some eyes for your
chick (using felt or just thread)
Insert your egg (or stuff with toy stuffing if you like); decorate with ribbons or anything else you like.

Meet the chicks...
