Procedure: A. Pre-reading Motivational question: How much do you know about our countrys history? B. While reading Students read the text, and locate or scan for specific information that will help them answer the activity found on page 154. C. Post reading Organizing Information An expository text comprises three parts: introduction, body and conclusion. The introduction gives the main idea. It expounds on the topic, its importance, and holds the thesis statement. The thesis statement is a sentence or two found which tells the reader what the essay is going to be about.

The body explains the thesis statement and the major developing ideas. It contains topic sentences which can be found in the beginning, middle or end of the paragraph. Lastly, the conclusion is the last main division of a discourse, usually containing a summing up of the points and a statement of opinion or decisions reached IV. Evaluation Students answer Activity 5 on page 155. Land of the Morning H. P. Ladera The Philippines is like no other place. It is an archipelago that lies in Southeast Asia. However, Philippines differ from its neighboring countries because of its openness to Western ideas. It has a long and painful history. In 1521, Ferdinand Magellan discovered the Philippines, and twenty years later named it Las Islas Filipinas. Spanish colonizers remained in the Philippine area for three centuries. Soon enough, Americans and Japanese invaded the country making Filipinos struggle for freedom. The country struggled and strived for self-rule and freedom. Just then, Americans helped the Filipino people for self-government. To date, Philippines is now considered an independent country.
