POETS & WRITERS MAGAZINE ANNOUNCES application information for writers conferences, literary festivals, residencies, and colonies of interest to poets, fiction writers, and creative nonfiction writers. Applications for the following events are due shortly. Conferences and festivals with rolling, first-come, first-served admission are listed well in advance. Some accept registration on the date of the event. Contact the sponsoring organization for an application and complete guidelines. When requesting information by mail, enclose a self-addressed, stamped envelope (SASE).
Atlanta Writers Conference
The 2019 Atlanta Writers Conference, sponsored by the Atlanta Writers Club, will be held from May 3 to May 4 at the Westin Atlanta Airport Hotel. The conference features publishing panels, pitch sessions, manuscript and query letter critiques, and a workshop on author branding for fiction writers, nonfiction writers, and graphic novelists. Participating publishing professionals include editors Rebecca Brewer (Ace/Berkley Publishing Group), Stephanie Guerdan (HarperCollins), Jennifer Gunnels (Tor Books), Emily Hartley (Ballantine Books), Chelcee Johns (37 INK), Danielle Marshall (Lake Union Publishing/Amazon Publishing), Grace Menary-Winefield (Sourcebooks), and Kristine Swartz (Berkley Publishing Group); and agents Caroline George (Cyle Young Literary Elite), Natalie Grazian (Martin Literary & Media Management), Julie Gwinn (Seymour Agency), Sharon Pelletier (Dystel, Goderich & Bourret), Michelle Richter (Fuse Literary), Elizabeth Winick Rubinstein (McIntosh & Otis), Jennifer March Soloway (Andrea Brown Literary Agency), and Léonicka Valcius (Transatlantic Agency). The cost of a single session ranges from $50 to $170, depending on the activity; the cost of the full conference, which includes two manuscript critiques, one query letter critique, two pitch sessions, and the author branding workshop, is $620. For nonmembers of the Atlanta Writers Club, an additional $50 membership fee is also required. Lodging is available at the conference hotel for a discounted rate of $119 per night until April 11. The deadline to register for a manuscript critique is April 3. Space is limited; registration is first come, first served. The general registration deadline is May 2. Bread Loaf in Sicily Conference
The 2019 Bread Loaf in Sicily Conference will be held from September 22 to September 28 in the ancient hilltop town of Erice, on the western coast of Sicily. The conference includes workshops in poetry, fiction, creative nonfiction, and translation, as well as craft classes and readings by faculty and guests. The faculty includes poet and translator Geoffrey Brock, poet Patrick Phillips, fiction writers Jennine Capó Crucet and Padma Viswanathan, and creative nonfiction writer Ted Genoways. Tuition is $3,265, which includes lodging and meals. The fee for auditors who do not have a manuscript is $3,010. Submit up to eight pages of poetry or up to 6,000 words of prose with a $20 application fee by April 15. Visit the website for an application and complete guidelines.

Chautauqua Writers’ Festival
The 2019 Chautauqua Writers’ Festival will be held from June 19 to June 22 at the historic Chautauqua Institution in Chautauqua, New York. The conference features workshops in poetry, fiction, and creative nonfiction, as well as readings and panel discussions.
