    The fatal gift of beauty.
    -Byron

A drug that combines ecstasy, cocaine, steroids, and skin rejuvenation is hitting the fashion industry. Just because the side effects are deadly doesn’t mean models won’t kill for it.

Eve Dallas should have had this solved faster but she’s been off: her best accused and her wedding looming. Stress can cause the smartest women to miss what’s right in front of them.

Love this series, love the audio

Long-time readers know I adore Nora Roberts and will gleefully read anything she publishes. Despite my love for her, I always avoided her In Death series because I didn’t want to have to tackle the 50+ novels in that series in addition to everything else I want to read. Still, I tasked myself with listening to my long audiobook list in order of publication date, and it just so happens that my husband had downloaded the first book in the series. So, I started Naked in Death, not knowing what to expect. I finished it in a day and immediately listened to books two, three, and four in short succession. Yeah, I’m a fan, and I cannot wait to get back to the series. First of all, I love the tone of this series. Not only is it darker and grittier than the novels she writes under her name, but there is also a rawness to Eve and Roarke that I adore. Everything about the series has an edge, from the characters to the world itself. Sure, it has fancy technology and gadgets, but there is something broken in Eve’s world that draws you to her. Only my self-control is preventing me from using my extra credits from downloading as much of the series as I can get and devouring them all.

When Eve Dallas is called into a murder scene, she is surprised to learn that her best friend, Mavis, is a suspect in the crime. When Eve has to arrest Mavis for the murder, she vows to save her friend and find the killer no matter what. But it's not so easy for Eve to concentrate on the case when she has to plan her own wedding, tend to her best friend, and deal with the sudden memories of her buried past. Eve is determined to find the true killer and prove Mavis' innocence, and so she goes into overdrive doing just that. Eve turns up a connection to a new illegal drug, which benefits the user with restored youthfulness, but is also highly addictive and fatal.

This is the third book of the long running series and I’ve really enjoyed them all. It’s interesting to see how the author envisions future New York and I love the mix of mystery and low level science fiction. I definitely plan to continue the series and hope to read at least a few more this year.

This is the next in the Eve Dallas series. Eve is a police lieutenant in NYC in the year 2058. Her best friend is accused of the brutal slaying of a super model. This series is pretty light weight but interesting. The technology of crime solving and every day life is advanced but the people are pretty much the same.

Jittery bride-to-be Eve, facing the dreaded task of shopping for a wedding dress, meets her best friend Mavis’s new love, fashion designer Leonardo. Shortly thereafter, the brutal murder of a top model puts NYPSD homicide detective Lieutenant Eve Dallas in a difficult position when Mavis becomes the prime suspect in Pandora’s murder. But the trail soon leads to illegal drugs, more deaths, and whispers of the fountain of youth and immortality. Will Eve find the answers she needs to save her friend? Third in the “In Death” series, readers will find the expected sarcasm, humor, and tireless dedication they’ve come to expect. The unfolding of Eve’s heartbreaking backstory adds tension, and the fashion industry machinations keep the anxiety levels rising. An intriguing mystery combines with the strong sense of place and compelling characters keep the pages turning in this unputdownable tale.Highly recommended.

Eve's friend Mavis becomes a suspect for murder when the former mistress of her current bf is killed. Eve has to follow the book, but prove her friend's innocence, all while planning her upcoming wedding. Or..actually..trying to avoid planning her wedding. Eve's so salty towards Roarke, I'm surprised he puts up with it. Although, he seems to like it, so maybe it's a case of the rich, powerful, handsome man finding it refreshing when a woman doesn't fawn all over him in a gold-diggy kind of way. I'm really starting to adore Officer Peabody. I hope she figures more in the series to come and hopefully gets a steady love interest. Loved, loved, loved the bachelorette party scene. Mavis, Mira, Peabody, Nadine, Eve. What a great group of interesting, strong, intelligent female characters.

    Immortal in Death
    4 Stars

In the days leading up to her wedding to Roarke, Homicide Lieutenant Eve Dallas has her hands full with flower arrangements and wardrobe fittings. The best laid plans are interrupted, however, when Eve’s best friend, Mavis, is accused of the murder of her current boyfriend’s ex-lover, and Eve is determined to do whatever it takes to prove her innocence.

While the writing is certainly formulaic and the mysteries predictable, there is, nevertheless, something very appealing about the characters and the romance in this series.

Eve’s character development is one of the elements that grabs the reader by the throat. As more details of her horrific childhood are revealed, it is impossible not to admire her strength and resilience. The revelations about Roarke’s past are different yet no less heart-wrenching in their intensity and the reasons for his and Eve’s attraction become clearer with each tidbit of information.

While the mystery is rather obvious and it is possible to figure out the killer mainly due to the dearth of suspects, the investigation is interesting and it is fun to follow the clues along with Eve and her new sidekick, Delia Peabody.

All in all, a fast paced and entertaining read with excellent characterization and an exciting climax and resolution. Looking forward to Eve’s next case.

Just as her life is beginning to look up, Eve has to make a snap decision to help out her best friend. It's one that could cost her her job, but Eve always goes with her gut and she believes Mavis is innocent. She only has a few hours to find the real killer and bring them to justice before one person's life could be ruined and another's begins. Love it!!!

Not a bad mystery. There isn't enough Sci-fi in it for me. The future setting feels like window dressing. There is very little you would need to change to have it set today. The futurist setting isn't really essential to the plot.I think Roarke is very Gary-Stu. He is just too perfect - rich, handsome, totally devoted. They also get together too fast. In the Stephanie Plum series Janet Evanovich drags things out too long for getting the main characters together. Here J.D. Robb does it too quickly.

In the latest in the series, "Immortal in Death," we find Eve shopping for a wedding dress to wear to marry the hunk, Roarke. If you've read any of the other books in this series, you'll understand why it is so unusual for this tough city cop to be dress shopping. A supermodel is murdered and Eve's best friend, Mavis, becomes the prime suspect. Also suspect is Mavis's boyfriend, Leonardo, who just happens to be the designer of Dallas's wedding dress. This is a series that I just can't get enough of. My biggest literary fear is Nora Roberts, (J.D. Robb) will stop writing them.

I am really beginning to enjoy this series. I was hesitant to begin because I do not like romance novels and although In Death is mystery, the author is Nora Roberts writing as JD Robb. Nora Roberts = romance. Ick, I say. ICK. I am happy to report that my fears have been unfounded. The plot is solid enough that I can skim over any romance-y sex-y scenes without missing a beat in the story. Occasionally, the romance plays a part in the story too. I still say ick but it doesn't make me want to throw the book across the room. The writing is good, the characters fleshed out. Overall, the series has been pretty danged good and Immortal has been no exception. Recommended.

Immortal in Death by J.D. Robb#3 "In Death" series 3-1/2*At the end of the last book, Eve accepted Roarke's marriage proposal. Now they are in the midst of wedding plans, fittings, etc. Of course, Eve is gritting her teeth over all the attention placed upon her. Her best friend, Mavis, however, is beside herself and is all over planning the wedding. Her newest love interest is an up-and-coming fashion designer and is in the process of designing Eve's wedding dress and trousseau when he and Mavis are implicated in a murder which occurred at his home. Eve knows Mavis is innocent, but because of their close relationship--Eve loves Mavis like a sister--Eve is a bit distracted and misses some clues which could have led her to the culprit(s) faster. Then additional murders happen which are obviously connected to the first, causing even more stress and urgency to find the real killer(s).In this installment we see more of Delia Peabody, whom Eve has taken on as an aide in order to help boost her career in homicide. Eve still has Feeney as her go-to guy for anything security or computer related. We are also introduced to another cop within the department, Jake T. Casto, a handsome and charming cowboy-type who has a thing for the unavailable Eve, but ends up starting a relationship with Delia (DeeDee). Casto comes from the department called "Illegals" (Narcotics) and works in tandem with Eve regarding the homicides as they are connected with a new and illegal drug called "Immortality" which works like the fountain of youth but is deadly if taken long term. This is another enjoyable installment in the series. We learn more about Eve's past, as well as (Roarke's grumpy butler) Summerset's history and why he and Roarke are so loyal to each other. Roarke continues to prove himself the ultimate in catches; Eve worries me a bit with her hesitancy and snappishness with Roarke. I worry she's going to wear on his last nerve which could cause some problems in their future relationship.

Another masterpiece by J.D Robb! This one had a different tune to the crime, because of the close relationship between Eve and the prime suspect which didn't make the book bad, quite the opposite. By having that to think about, eve had to take different approaches to lead the investigation. Her relationship with Roarke has reached this level of trust and intimacy that makes me go all starry eyed over them. The case in question was very good too and I don't know if I'm always too in tune with Eve's personal life, but I can't seem to figure out who the killer is. Oh, well, I guess that way I enjoy the ending more. ^^

Eve and Roarke are getting married but Eve needs a wedding gown and a wardrobe. Mavis brings her new beau who is also a designer, Leonardo, around to design Eve's clothes. Eve's not happy with it but once she sees Leonardo's fashions she can live with them. Unfortunately, along the way, Leonardo's ex-girlfriend, a model named Pandora, is murdered in Leonardo's studio and Mavis is found at the scene. Eve has to do some fancy detecting to keep Mavis out of prison for life. Eve also has to deal with remembering more of her past.I like Eve. She always claims she is a loner but we see the family is putting together for herself. Eve may be a hard-nosed, kick-ass copy but with Roarke in her life her softer side slowly shows. I like how each thinks of the other and how their actions will affect one another. I also like that Roarke will not let go of Eve, no matter how she tries. I am re-enjoying this series again.

#3. After reading 4 [In Death] books, essentially in a row, I've had my fix. I'm sure I will resume, but not for a while.Because I've read #36, I know Robb does get back on track thinking about what the future may bring, but she let that piece of the series down here. Additionally, the perp (see, I can talk cop talk) was apparent when they (gender free, singular pronoun) first were introduced. Now that primary relationships are settled between Eve and her "family" I think we can expect better plotting. IMHO and all that.

I could say that I absolutely love this series and nothing else. End of review. But, I really believe that this particular series deserves a full review, because readers must learn how great it is! This book is the third installment in this series and many things happened.Eve and Roarke are planning their wedding. Well, Roarke is planning the wedding and Eve is trying to solve another case that was make the life of her best friend difficult! On top of that, Eve remembers what happened to her when she was just a kid. Yes, in this book she has to deal with many difficult situations. Again.I liked Eve since I first read about her, but after that I like her even more. Although she’s been through hell and her father did to her many unspeakable things, she’s a very strong woman. If she was broken, I would have understand her because it would be logical. But she’s a very brave woman and although she’s afraid of her feelings, at the end of the day she admits that she needs Roarke and his love because he makes her feel safe. Of course, she had her doubts for a while but not because she doesn’t love him but because everything is to strange for her.Roarke is definitely the best man for Eve. He knows her better that herself. And he has his dark past also, so she can understand her. We learn some things about his past in this story. Not good but I was expecting it. It’s not easy for him to be so giving and to see that Eve is reluctant but it bothers him because he wants her free of her nightmares and happy. I love their conversations because he can make her be more relaxed. In this story, I liked other five characters also. Mavis, Mira, Peabody, Nadine and Feeney. Everyone for different reasons and I hope to see more of them in the next books. The plot was very good and the writing style amazing as always! Definitely a very nice read!

This is one of my favorite In Death books. I think because this is the first time we really see Eve open up. She shows a lot of emotional growth here, plus she opens the door to new friendships.

It was easy to figure out who the killer was, but I still enjoyed the basic plot and watching Eve and her team work it out. I was disappointed in the timeline of the investigation though. It seems strange that both Eve and Roarke would be working right up until the night of the wedding.

All of Eve's past is revealed in this book, and I found it just as shocking and horrific this time around. I hate that she pushes Roarke away, and yet that's one of the most real parts of the book.

Overall I'm just as impressed this time around.

The major problem with this book is that it tries to stab the reader in the gut while smiling at his - mine - back. That often happens when a writer's target readership are, well, I don't want to state it and be guilty of snobbishness. The key point of this book came when the memories of the heroine resurface and I thought, the book does not belong with this stark avowal of rude and real truth. This book is the most highly rated book series I've come across, with more than a 4.00 average on a site not a million miles from here. More's the pity.

Only Eve Dallas could find herself investigating a murder while getting ready for her wedding- a murder where her best friend Mavis and Mavis' new boyfriend Leonard (who also happens to be the wedding dress designer) are the prime suspects. Watching Eve find her way through the maze of clues to solve the case while also trying to find her way through the wedding planning process makes for an enjoyable read. A solid addition to the series.
