About this audiobook

Tip Harris, better known as Grammy Award-winning, multi-platinum selling hip-hop artist and actor T.I., is at the top of his game. Now he displays yet another side of his remarkable talents with Power & Beauty, a love story of life on the streets. Set in the dangerous shadows of Atlanta, Georgia, Power & Beauty is a dark, gritty story of sex, violence, hustling, and redemption centered around Paul “Power” Clay and Tanya “Beauty” Long—two kids facing long odds and lethal temptations, yet whose miraculous, unbreakable bond ultimately becomes their salvation. A love story, a crime story, a survival story, Power & Beauty bristles with an electrifying authenticity born of Tip “T.I.” Harris’s hard life on the streets. This is exhilarating, brutally honest, page-turning urban African-American fiction at its very best.

This book had the worst ending. So disappointed I actually started to like the book.

The reader brought the story to life... really good

The reader is really good, & so is the plot. The 2 glaring issues in this book, though: (1) What happened between Power & Beauty..EW. (2) The incessant, harping, aggravating obsession with lighter skin & "foreign"/"exotic" tropes. Every time a character is introduced, I groan & roll my eyes. WAY too much time is spent going over colorist stereotypes. Every important man in the book, excluding Power, is light-skinned w/ green eyes & wavy hair, or is white. Damn near every woman is Asian or mixed. Power even described himself as having kinky hair & big lips. Almost all of the Black women are big "mammy" types ?? That issue has T.I. written all over it. But the otherwise sophisticated or entertaining parts of the story mostly speak to his co-author's perspective. This is a good listen, though.
