About this audiobook

How can you handle the narcissistic people in your life? They're frustrating (and maybe even intimidating) to deal with. You might need to interact with some of them in social or professional settings, and you might even love one-so sometimes it just doesn't work to simply ignore them. You need to find a way of communicating effectively with narcissists, getting your point across and meeting your needs while side-stepping unproductive power struggles and senseless arguments. Disarming the Narcissist offers a host of effective strategies for dealing effectively with someone who is at the center of his or her own universe.

Disarming the Narcissist will show you how to move past the narcissist's defenses using compassionate, empathetic communication. You'll learn how narcissists view the world, how to navigate their coping styles, and why, oftentimes, it's sad and lonely being a narcissist. By learning to anticipate and avoid certain hot-button issues, you'll be able to relate to narcissists without triggering aggression. By validating some common narcissistic concerns, you'll find out how to be heard in conversation with a narcissist. Finally, you'll learn how to set limits with your narcissist and when it's time to draw the line on unacceptable behavior.

This is a very useful book for children and spouses of narcissists. Practical exercises, useful phrases for communication, how to quit and how to save relations.

There were some helpful things related to scheme in this book. I appreciated the idea of thinking about the narcissist as a child and then understanding some of the reasons that can cause narcissism.

Some of the advice of how to communicate with the narcissist felt too forced and not natural.

This book gives me hope! All the others I’ve read on this subject say to run. But I’m not prepared to do that. So now I have positive tools for a way forward.

Very well written. We all have at least one narcissist in our lives. This book tells you how to spot, understand and deal with them. Enjoyed the examples from real people's lives. The exercises were helpful too. Loved the quotes and easy to read style of this book. I am shareing this book with my friends and family.

This book is seriously misguided. Saying that most narcissists are not bad or evil and deserve compassion is gravely wrong. I question if the author is not a narcissist themselves. If you are dealing with someone that is a psychopath, which a mat cost shares many of their attributes with, do not listen to this book. It is victim shaming. There are much better books to help you heal and move on to a better life.

All around good book - good content and good narrator. I really enjoyed this book and learned quite a bit about myself while reading. While I'm nowhere near some of the narcissists the author described, I recognized some of the ways I behave narcissistic-ally (is that a word?) in my relationships and with that knowledge I can try to be better. It also gave wonderfully concrete examples of how to talk with other people when you are hurt by thoughtless behavior - very helpful and easy to apply to other situations. I think that my own personal relationships will benefit by having read this book, even tho' it was written for one specific personality type. I recommend for everyone who wishes to work on communication... isn't that everyone? :)
