About this audiobook

LAPD Detective Harry Bosch tackles three tough cases that span a legendary career in this never-before-collected trio of stories.

In "Christmas Even," the case of a burglar killed in mid-heist leads Bosch to retrace a link to his past. In "Father's Day," Bosch investigates a young boy's seemingly accidental death and confronts his own fears as a father. In "Angle of Investigation," Bosch delves into one of the first homicides he ever worked back as a uniformed rookie patrolman, a case that was left unsolved for decades.

Together, these gripping stories span Bosch's controversial career at the LAPD, and show the evolution of the haunted, legendary investigator he would become. Utterly unputdownable, they are proof that "Connelly never stops doling out the suspense....Once it grabs you in those first few pages, it won't let go of you" (Boston Globe).

This collection of short stories spans the career of Hieronymus "Harry" Bosch with the Los Angeles Police Department. One of them offers an entertaining insight into his second day off the force, as a rookie in uniform, when he and his mentoring partner discovered the body of a middle aged woman who had been bound and then drowned in her own bath, along with her pet dog. That investigation was immediately turned over to the Homicide Division, and Bosch had no further involvement. However, more than thirty years later, after having retired and then been re-recruited to work on cold cases, that death (still unresolved) is still playing on his mind. A potential new lead is found and sets Bosch off on a completely new angle. The other two stories are equally engaging, and resonate with all the characteristics that we have come to savour when Bosch is involved.I am not generally keen on short stories, feeling that all too often one has no sooner fully engaged with the emerging scenario and characters than it is all over. These stories, however, work excellently. Connelly's spare writing style is as well suited to the shorter format as it is to the novel, and the short stories offer Connelly the opportunity to fill in some of the gaps in Bosch's life.

This one had a Harry Bosch Christmas story how perfect! One thing you should know is that the stories in this book & Suicide Run are set before 9 Dragons. I did have to stop this as soon as the teaser for The Drop started because that would just frustrate me as I have 5 more days on the waiting list for the audio of that one!As I said in my review of Suicide Run, I listened to this on audio narrated by, Len Cariou who is and always will be the voice of Harry Bosch for me, however I have to say Len's age is starting to show in his voice but I wouldn't want anyone else as the voice of Harry. If you are in need of a Harry Bosch fix check out these stories warning they will leave you wanting more!4 stars

I love Harry Bosch. This is three short stories featuring featuring him. The first was a touching story taking place on Christmas Eve involviing the robbery of a pawn shop and a stolen saxophone. Harry recalled the sax player playing for the troops in Viet Nam and wanted to track down the musician and return his sax. The second story involved a baby left in a hot car in the summertime. The third story started back when Bosch was new on the force as a beat cop and being called to a scene and discovering a homicide. It then switches to the cold case unsolved unit and Harry wanting to bring justice to the victim.

From the reviews on Amazon, it seems that die-hard Michael Connelly fans won't particularly like these short stories, because they are short, lacking a bit in character development, and have pretty simple plot lines. On the other hand if you are looking for some good quality quick reads, then they may hit the spot, as they did for me.

Collection of three short stories. If you are Connelly fan, as am I, you will like them, especially since they all feature Bosch. My favorite was the first as it shows a very human side of Bosch and more back story about his war years. Great saxophone story. But enough spoiling.

Thank goodness this is considered a whole book even though it's very short. I need to pad my total of books read this year to meet my goal. Ridiculous. Next year I won't be so frigging ambitious and read only 1000 page tomes.

Enjoyable short stories in the Harry Bosch series; not as amazing as most of the novels, but good for a quick fix. Recommended.
