- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5I rarely hand out 5s, but this book gets one, hands down. We love Fletcher over here. He's so precious and charming and well-intentioned. A good book for developing your child's empathy, but also a fun one to tie in with more informational books. My son likes to try to explain to Fletcher the science of what the tree is going through and why it is no cause for concern. :)
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Rawlinson, Julia. Fletcher and the falling leaves. Illustrated by Tiphanie Beeke. 32p. Greenwillow Books, 2008. Tr. $16.99. ISBN 978-0061573972; LC 0061573973.Through descriptive prose and warm watercolors, Fletcher the fox learns about Fall and Winter, what their changes mean to the other animals in the forest, and how they can be spectacularly beautiful. Fletcher loves his friend, the tree, but is worried because its leaves are turning bright gold, red, and brown. His mother tries to comfort him, saying, “don’t worry, it’s only Autumn.” But as the tree loses its leaves, Fletcher desperately runs around trying to catch and reattach them to his friend. After a disappointing day, he goes back to his den to sleep. When he wakes the next morning, Fletcher discovers that his tree has changed and is now more beautiful than ever. (Picture Book. Ages 4-6).
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Julia Rawlinson fits a beautiful lesson about the changing seasons within the 32 pages of this book. Poor little Fletcher the fox is young and unaware about how trees lose their leaves each fall but he comes to an understanding by the end of the book. This picture book, suitable for younger readers is full of engaging, colourful pictures, endearing characters and a wonderful lesson. The final page, with its shimmery tree is the best one of all.
- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5So sweet. A little fox kit tries worries about his tree changing in the autumn.
