While this book is very long, it was not the 720 pages goodreads said it was. My copy was "only" 663 pages.A great addition to the Green Rider series. Kristen Britain's prose is poetic in it's beauty. And, while I would venture to say she sometimes goes a little crazy with the thesaurus, her descriptive words seem to fit well with the midevil-style world that she weaves. A bit less description, however, would shorten the book without hurting the story.Britain does a wonderful job of weaving several subplots into the main plot. They all fit together nicely, with the exception of one that seems to go off on a tangent without a visible future connection. My one complaint, and the reason I gave "Blackveil" 4 stars instead of 5, is that the ending gives no closure. Every storyline is left unfinished, with the worst offender being the story following the main character. I understand the desire to pull the reader back, but this ending kind of irritated me. Any reader loyal to the story of Sacoridia will come back for the next installment without being forced as this ending does. It is unnecessary and left this reader a bit disappointed.A good read, but wanting on several levels.

I want more...but do you know what the most horrible part i? Knowing that it might take years before book 5 comes out! Yes I do mean years because book 1 came out in 1998..do the math. The other books have all ended well, even if the doom is out there, but this one, no of course it did not end like that. It ended with one huge cliffie, a true evil cliffie in every sense of the word. I despair...I must know! But no, it will take a few years.

As has been said before the second Empire still wants to take over the country. Grandmother, that evil witch is up to her old tricks. A truly well made evil baddie. She thinks she is good, while she certainly is the opposite. But she is not the only evil one, back at court we have someone else who is wolf among sheep. I thought he was bad in book 3, but here, oh that man needs to be stopped.

The good guys then. Alton is trying to fix the wall, King Zachary is still brooding over Karigan. Karigan is being sent to the Blackveil (and is brooding too), Lord Amberhill who showed up in book 3 has a bigger part all the sudden and I can't put my finger on it. Does Britain mean Karigan to end up with him? But then he did flirt with the future queen too. Anyway he has a destiny. And Estora, well she is all nice (too nice), and things happens, she deals well with them, but at one time I just wanted her to say stop because it was shameful. I can't say what happened, but at least for medical reasons she should have known better. So yes I do not like her. And not only cos I want Karigan and Zachary to be happy. Which they never will be, and I really do not know how Britain will fix this. Amberhill? But I do not want that to happen. Oh the romance drama is so non-existing in a way and yet so very delicious.

Going into the Blackveil means danger, and a lot of it. Secrets, blood and more is promised in this exciting new part of the Green Rider series.

    Conclusion:
But, how will I survive until book 5? And how will Britain save this poor world? But then good always wins and I always doubt it. I do need more, and now.

Okay, I liked this book, I really did. I love all Kristen Britain's books, and far be it from me (an unpublished writer) to criticize someone so talented and brilliant, who's actually made it. But oh my god I was hoping this was the last book! It is absolute torture waiting so many years between books, and as much as I love love love this series, I really wanted a conclusion, not a cliffhanger that I'll be waiting on for at least another two years!

The time between book 6 and book 7 of the Harry Potter series was terrifying. In normal times, I'm always vaguely concerned about the health and well-being of those around me -- but when waiting for a book in series to come out, I find myself wishing I had the funds and means to hire a team of doctors and bodyguards to watch the author's every move and make sure NOTHING HAPPENS to them.

If you like high fantasy, the Green Rider series is a must-read. If you're like me, and have a hard time with suspense and waiting, you may want to wait until this series is complete. Trust me -- as brilliant and wonderful as this series is, I normally wait until a series is complete to start it. The few times I break this rule, it's agony.

I love the Green Rider series. I fell in love with it six years ago when my best friend handed me Green Rider and told me that I would probably be done with it the next day. She was right. Blackveil, however, just wasn't up to par for me.What I liked:The suspense is terrific and I am greatly enjoying how the overall storyline is progressing. Once again, Britain creates a world that I can just grab onto and completely immerse myself in. Blackveil is deliciously horrific and I am glad she held nothing back when it came to making it the scariest forest you could possibly imagine. One of my FAVORITE parts about this book was that we got to learn a little bit more about Kariny, Karigan's mother. She is a character I have always been interested in, and I think the wait was worth it. Even though she's not alive in these books, she is still a complex character that I find myself caring for very much. What I didn't:I said I liked the progression of the overall storyline, however, the storyline of the individual novels is getting a bit formulaic -- there's danger, Karigan dives into it headfirst, and then almost kills herself. Also, for me, this book was a bit drawn out. It was one of those novels where when it's good, it's really good, but getting to the good parts takes some effort. One of the things I disliked the most was all the indirect inner dialogue. What I mean by that is that we got a lot of "Bob was sure Nancy did that because (insert reason here)." I don't like being told characters' motivations very much, especially when they're through a different perspective. Did Nancy do that because of that reason? Maybe not. Bob thinks so, but it may not be true. Honestly, I don't think this sort of information adds anything to the story. It's much more interesting to incorporate Nancy's background and characteristics throughout the story, have her do the action, and then leave it up to the reader to decide why she did what she did. It's more of a creative process for both the reader and writer and allows for good discussions and debates to arise, which is one of the joys of reading. Conclusion:Do I recommend this book? For fans of the series, I certainly do. However, if you haven't read it yet, I suggest waiting and reading some other books on your "to read" list. This book has a ridiculous cliffhanger and considering the there was a 2 year gap between the third book and this book, answers aren't going to be coming anytime soon. Will I continue reading? Absolutely. I still love the characters and the world Britain has built. I just hope it ends soon, because I've pretty much had enough of Karigan getting herself into trouble. If it isn't wrapped up by the sixth book, I'll probably quit this series.

Great story. Can't wait for the next book. There is quite a bit of plot that is setting up other threads and stories that makes this book quite a bit longer than it need be.I really enjoy these characters and the plot is great. I'm glad to see Karigan is growing stronger and more confident in each book and hope this continues. I would like to see her confidence contine to grow and, especially with all she's done, demand more respect, position, etc...I hope the next book comes out sooner rather than later.

Wonderful! I was a bit leery at first due to the heft of the book, but the pages just flew by. A warning to all of you who love this series but hate being left hanging... This one ends with a gawd-awful cliffhanger! I sincerely hope that Ms. Britain doesn't take another four years to get us the next installment!

Wow! What a cliffhanger of an ending!!! Almost as much so as Jim Butcher's Harry Dresden series. I have enjoyed Britain's series a lot, and this one was only disappointing in the long time we had to wait for it...Hope the next one comes out sooner. There are some elements that seem kind of derivative of McCaffrey or Jordan or other authors, but they weren't that bad. She still has lots of unique elements that I enjoy.

I did love this book, especially getting to read 3-5 right on the heels of each other. I love the horses, and the riders. I love the deepness we started to get into with Karigan, Estora and Zachary among how the trio is playing out together (publicly and privately). I love continuing to watch The Riders grow. I have deep idea about what's going to happen with Grandmother's Daughter already, and I had a lot of Amberhill thoughts.

Blackveil - Kristen BritainA truly long wait between books in this series. As well-written, action-packed as the others with the characters readers of this series will have invested in.But lots of POV switching, took half the book to get to Blackveil and while not exactly a cliffhanger left everything up in the air. Hopefully series isn't being stretched out endlessly. I probably would have have rated higher — because really is a very good book — had so much of it not really gone anywhere in a lot of pages or gone places I did not like (what happens with King Zachary even if I'm pretty sure where that thread is headed). I have no no doubt this series will continue to be a favorite and the next books soothe my qualms about this one.Maybe I should have let my book hangover resolve itself instead of rating so quickly; right now, this is my opinion of my reading experience.
