About this audiobook

WHO DO YOU LOVE?

One question, a split-second decision, and Brian Darby lies dead on the kitchen floor. His wife, state police trooper Tessa Leoni, claims to have shot him in self-defense, and bears the bruises to back up her tale. For veteran detective D. D. Warren it should be an open-and-shut case. But where is their six-year-old daughter?

AND HOW FAR WOULD YOU GO . . .

As the homicide investigation ratchets into a frantic statewide search for a missing child, D. D. Warren must partner with former lover Bobby Dodge to break through the blue wall of police brotherhood, seeking to understand the inner workings of a trooper's mind while also unearthing family secrets. Would a trained police officer truly shoot her own husband? And would a mother harm her own child?

. . . TO SAVE HER?

For Tessa Leoni, the worst has not yet happened. She is walking a tightrope, with nowhere to turn, no one to trust, as the clock ticks down to a terrifying deadline. She has one goal in sight, and she will use every ounce of her training, every trick at her disposal, to do what must be done. No sacrifice is too great, no action unthinkable. A mother knows who she loves. And all others will be made to pay.

Love you more . . .

Love DD Warren, and love this new character and all the baggage she now carries with her. Though the book was light in its suspense, I look forward to reading the next in the series, in the hope that Tessa will take on a meaty case in her role as a security pro.

Tessa Leoni has a great deal on her plate. She has been a Massachusetts state trooper for four years and has a beautiful six-year-old daughter, Sophie, whose father's name Tessa does not even know. Leoni has an inner toughness that she will desperately need as she faces an uncertain future. Her husband of three years and Sophie's stepfather, Brian Darby, has been shot to death, and the evidence points to Tessa as the perpetrator. Worse, Tessa's little girl, Sophie, has disappeared. The plotting is intricate, but not beyond plausibility. There are some surprises in store for the usually tough DD.

Brian, a seemingly loving and devoted husband and father, is found dead in his kitchen. The only suspect - his wife, Tessa, who admits to shooting her husband...in self defense. Her face is battered and bruised, but Detective D.D. Warren isn't falling for the innocent act. Because Tessa is a state trooper and her use of force against her husband seems a little extreme, D.D. begins to question Tessa's story. Tessa seems to say all the right things, but something just seems a little off. To make matter's worse Tessa's little daughter Sophie is missing and Tessa insists she has no idea where she could be. With a child's life on the line, will D.D. and her partner on the case, Bobby (her ex) be able to get to the bottom of all of the mysteries and save her, or will they be too late. And with D.D. dealing with some personal issues of her own, will it be too much for her to handle? My review: I couldn't wait to read this book and I am so gracious to be able to get a free ARC of it through Shelf Awareness from the publisher. I love Lisa Gardner's books and I have read the entire FBI profiler series. I don't know how I missed the D.D. Warren series but I think I'll definitely have to go back and do some catch up, since I started with #5! At first, D.D. came off as pretty hostile and controlling, but I supposed you have to be when you're leading a police task force (especially when you're a woman). She has a really tough exterior, but inside she still has insecurities and fears. She keeps them all bottled up inside though because she hates to show weakness. I was rooting for Tessa the whole time...I knew something was off about her story, because this story goes back and forth between D.D.'s point of view and Tessa's (which I LOVE). It really gave an insight into what she was going through, and it was obvious that what really happened to her husband was something much more than she was letting on. I never for a second thought she knew where her daughter was or had harmed her in any way and I prayed that she would be able to find a way to save her. Even when everything seems bleak though, she never gives up because she loves he daughter and knows she is waiting for her mommy to save her. D.D. is stuck together with her ex, Bobby, investigating this case. It gets a little awkward at times because even though she swears she has no feelings for him anymore, it still seems like she carries a little candle for him and I think is jealous of his having a family. So the characters were very well developed and it was impossible to not get sucked into the story and forget at times that it's fiction. Hoping that they find out the truth in time. Even though this is the 5th book in the series, I didn't feel lost at all, but it definitely made me want to run out and buy the other 4 books! I thought I had the ending figured out several times throughout the book but there were so many twists I didn't see coming. It's full of suspense, which kept me wanting more and I couldn't put the book down! A great, fast-paced read that I would recommend to anyone. My rating: 5/5 stars

After years of abuse, state trooper Tessa Leoni seems to have finally snapped. Shen her husband is murdered, Tessa instantly becomes the prime suspect. However, not all is as it appears as Detective D. D. Warren gets to the bottom of the murder as well as the whereabouts of Tessa's missing six-year-old daughter.

Read in April, 2012Read for Fun(Gift from the Spring Book Exchange)Challenges: Mystery/Thriller, Read for FunOverall Rating: 4.25Story Rating: 4.50Character Rating: 4.00First Thought when Finished: The ending was just perfect for this story! What I Loved: Who do you love more? That was the question asked in the beginning by the killer and factored into every decision made by one of the victims. Usually it is the lead characters that are the most compelling but in this case it was the victim(s) (sorry for being general I just don't want to give anything away). What extreme would you go to for someone you loved? Could you choose if you had to? What if you found out your life was even more different than you imagined? What if all of that came to a head of having to choose who you loved more? That is where the story begins and the journey of the victim is amazingly heartbreaking, crazy, and thrilling! What I Liked: This is my first DD Warren read so I had no connection to her BUT I loved her gumption. She was tough as nails and I liked the way her mind worked. I will go back and read the first four in the series. She was the perfect detective for this case because she had an "assume nothing" rule. She is also highly perceptive and even occasionally wrong. I find something authentic in authors who write characters that are flawed and make mistakes. It makes me believe the outcome so much more!Final Thoughts: This was a great "track down the killer" type of read! I knocked it out in just one day.

This is a story about Tessa who murders her husband, ordoes she. She seems to be responsible for the death of her daughter, but is she. This is a 'who dunnit' that twists and turns at every corner. You think it is all solved but then something else happens.Easy to read.

For veteran detective D. D. Warren it should be an open-and-shut case. But where is their six-year-old daughter? (Amazon).I really liked this book. The plot is compex; the story is told in two voices...Tessa's and D.D.'s. The two points of view allow the reader to know more than the characters' at certain points. It is very suspenseful and difficult to stop reading. Highly recommended.

I REALLY enjoyed this book. Half the time, I was trying to figure out who shot who and was she guilty or wasn't she? The author would right something and you'd think Tessa Leoni killed her whole family and then the author would write something else and you'd change your mind. I hardly ever give 5 stars but I really thought this book deserved them.

I read this because I wanted to know, why? The story itself is not one which would normally appeal to me, much too dark and about a beaten woman and a missing child. But the author pulled me right into the story and I really wanted to know how the characters got to the point they were at. They annoyed me intensely at times, but I still wanted to know why they did what they did. The two narrators did a good job of reading, and I think it was a good decision to have two different "voices." In the end, I was not disappointed with the story, even though it really isn't my kind of preferred read.

I'm not big on thrillers or "women in jeopardy" books or movies (sorry, my friends who like Lifetime movies- you know who you are), but Lisa Gardner's book I Love You More had me tearing through the pages to get to the end of a crackling story.Tessa Leoni, a Massachusetts state trooper is accused of murdering her husband and probably her missing daughter. Boston police detective D.D. Warren and her partner Bobby are assigned the case. D. D. herself may be pregnant, so finding the missing six-year-old girl hits home with her.By all accounts, Leoni is a devoted mother; why would she kill her daughter? As Warren digs deeper, she finds that the dead man had a big gambling problem. Is this related to his death? Warren discovers that as a teen Leoni had killed a man who she claimed had tried to rape her, did she kill again?I enjoyed how the author slowly unraveled the mysteries of the story, giving the reader morsels of information a little bit at a time. Warren is certain that Leoni murdered her daughter, and when Leoni offers to take them to where the body is buried, the resulting scene is full of tension, and the story really takes off from there. It is action-packed.This is a book that is a real page-turner, with an interesting storyline. The two female protagonists are fascinating, especially Leoni. She is one tough cookie, and more than a match for the veteran detective. Their scenes together are very dramatic, and would be great roles for two actresses. (I kept seeing Angelina Jolie in my head as Tessa in the movie version.)This is the fourth novel featuring D.D. Warren, but it reads just as well as a stand-alone. It did encourage me to go read the previous novels, Live to Tell, Hide, Alone and The Neighbor. If you like mystery/thrillers with terrific female characters, this one is for you.

It's been many years since I've read one of Lisa Gardner's novels. I think I read the first book in this series of five, but I'm essentially coming to Love You More as a stand alone. And while there would surely be more depth and resonance if I knew the entire history of Boston homicide detective D.D. Warren and state trooper Bobby Dodge, Gardner does a fantastic job expositing what the reader needs to know. Namely, that the two were once lovers, and that while there were some bruised emotions at one time, they're both happy with other partners now. Which is good, because they've been thrust together investigating a shooting. State trooper Tessa Leoni used her service revolver to shoot her husband of three years in the kitchen of their home. What might appear as an open-and-shut case of a battered woman snapping is complicated by the fact that Leoni's six-year-old daughter is missing. The story is told in chapters alternating between Leoni's first-person narration and third-person omniscient from the D.D./Bobby side of the investigation. And it's clear, right from the beginning, that there's more to the story than Leoni is letting on. She freely admits that she is lying to the police within the confines of her own skull, but the knowledge that she alone holds is teased out only gradually throughout the novel. Meanwhile, D.D. and Bobby are racing against the clock to find an innocent child, and this case has really gotten under D.D.'s skin for reasons both personal and professional. While police procedurals are not generally my favorite, I read a lot of mysteries and thrillers. Plus, I'm something of a smarty-pants; I'm good at figuring these things out. Let me be the first to admit that Lisa Gardner had me as bewildered as the cops in this intricately-plotted page-turner. Leoni's case is complex, sad, and hugely compelling. And even without having read all of the D.D./Bobby books, I found these characters to be richly drawn, appealing, and believable. I enjoyed this novel from start to finish, and now that I'm back in this world, it's going to be very hard to resist grabbing the next book in the series.

Reason for Reading: Next in the series.I just love Lisa Gardner. She is in that list of my favourite mystery/thriller authors and I know I'm in for a good read when I settle down with one of her books. This time around D.D. and her partner Bobby enter the scene of a woman who has been beaten violently, her husband is dead in front of her and their six-year old daughter is missing. One key piece of information changes this from the usual domestic violence scene, the woman is a state police trooper and is still in full uniform and the three "shoot to kill" gunshots on her husband's chest have D.D. convinced this was not an abused woman defending her life. Most importantly is the search for the missing child, the woman swears she hasn't seen her since she put her to bed the previous night before going to work the night shift but D.D. is more apt to think that State Police Trooper Tessa Leoni may be trying to get away with murdering her entire family.Just as expected this was a heart-pumping, fast-paced read with everything a fan hopes for. An excellent case, the reader knows more than D.D. and the narrative switches between her investigation and Tessa's point of view. It is through Tessa that the truth of what really happened unravels before the readers eye and we watch how D.D. is able to solve the case following the trail of evidence. In this book Tessa is a fabulous character. A determined woman and an even more determined mother who will go to any lengths to save her child. An excellent entry in the series which brings fresh energy as D.D.'s personal life is mostly left in limbo with a small detail that will bring about a huge change in her life in future books. A great read!

Boston homicide det. D.D. Warren is called by St. Police liaison Bobby Dodge when a homicide is connected with a member of the State Police.St. Trooper Tessa Leoni is found in her kitchen, bruised and beaten. Her husband, Brian, is dead, shot with her service revolver. In addition, her daughter, Sophie, age six, is missing. It seems open and shut that Tessa was abused and acted in self defense. In alternating chapters we learn of the investigation and then what was going through Tessa's mind, before and after the killing.D.D. Warren and Bobby Dodge learn of Brian's gambling problem and wonder if he did something with Sophie.Tessa had risen above alcohol dependency and a life of sexual encounters when Sophie was born. Since then, she has had an exemplary life.As D.D. investigates, she learns that she is pregnant and now she sees the actions of Tessa differently. What would a mother do to protect her child? She promises this new creation that she will bring the baby up in a better world.Brian's autopsy reveals something and Tessa is arrested. Again, we experience more of Tessa's point of view and come to realize that something more is at stake.Readers of Lisa Gardner will know that there is more to a story than meets the eye. As much as any thriller writer today, Gardner knows how to write a compelling story. When the reader begins to feel that they know the direction of the plot, things change.D.D. Warren and Tesssa are totally believable characters and with Warren being pregnant and seeing things from an expectant mother, it adds a wonderful element to the story. I enjoyed every minute of the story and was captured by the mounting suspense.

Review of "Love You More" by Lisa GardnerAuthor Lisa Gardner takes readers on a careening ride of suspense in her latest novel, "Love You More." What would you do to save your daughter? Fortunately, most of us will never have to face the decisions which Massachusetts State Trooper Tessa Leoni faces as she struggles to save her daughter. Tessa's husband, Brian Darby, is dead in the couple's home and six-year-old Sophie Leoni, Tessa's daughter, is missing. All evidence points to Tessa as Brian's killer, but evidence can be deceiving, especially when law enforcement suspects are involved.Boston Detective D.D. Warren is called in for this case to work alongside her former lover and currently married Massachusetts State Police Detective Bobby Dodge. They have to work quickly to find the missing six-year-old. Unfortunately, Tessa is not giving them much help. All I can say is you have to read this one! Gardner keeps readers riveted in this wild ride. I highly recommend "Love You More" for all mystery fans. Go! Read! Now!Note: The book was provided through Amazon Vine.

Love You More is a fast pace, action packed novel. Lisa Gardner, one of my favorite thriller writers, knows how to pack suspense into her plots. The storyline itself tends to be a little too spectacular, the main character appears a little too good at being the hero. Tessa Leoni, a 23 year old State Trooper, battles brawn and witts, remaining at least two steps ahead of everyone else. There is a bit of mystery about Trooper Leoni, though, and at parts of the novel, I questioned her ulterior motives more than once.I did enjoy reappearing characters D.D. Warrens and Bobby Dodge, who play supporting roles in this novel. Gardner advances their personal stories while not all all diminishing the overall suspense. However, I found it fantastic that such seasoned investigators would, at times, completely ignore the overwhelming forensic evidence of Tessa's guilty to explore alternative theories favorable to her innocence. But, this is fiction, and anything can (and does) happen. Ultimately, I found Love You More to be an entertaining novel, sort of an equalivant to a Bruce Willis Die Hard movie.

Lisa Gardner has written another keep you guessing thriller. State Trooper Tessa Leoni is found severely beaten with her husband's body, killed with her service weapon. Her daughter, Sophie, is missing. At first it appears to be an abused wife killing her husband in self-defense, but how does that explain Sophie's disappearance? All the pieces aren't fitting for Homicide Detective D. D. Warren, who is convinced that Tessa killed both her husband and her daughter, and eventually Tessa is arrested for her husband's murder. But everything is not as it seems. This is a book full of twists. Information is slowly fed to the reader, pulling them along as Tessa races to find her daughter. She is amazingly resourceful as she stays one step ahead of the State Police, County Sheriff's Dept, and Boston Police Dept. Some of it is very believable and some not so much, but it really doesn't matter because the suspense keeps you reading and cheering for Tessa as she shows us what levels a mother will go to in order to protect her child. The chapters are arranged alternating with one narrated by Detective Warren and the next by Tessa Leoni in Gardner's usual style. For those of you who are fans of Detective Warren, there will be another surprise in store for you, but no spoiler from me.

I'm a huge fan of best selling author Lisa Gardner. She is one of my favourite thriller/suspense authors. But I think I enjoy the Detective D. D. Warren books the most. Love You More is the 5th in the series. It appears that State Trooper Tessa Leoni finally had enough and shot her abusive husband Brian with her service revolver. But where is her 6 yr old daughter Sophie? Did Brian take her somewhere? Badly beaten, Tessa confesses, but claims she has no idea where Sophie is. Brought onto the case by her ex lover and partner Bobby Dodge, D.D. is convinced Tessa is lying.Love You More is told in alternating chapters from D.D and Bobby's view and then from Tessa's. Gardner slowly reveals clues and revelations that change the plot and ratchet up the action. What I thought was going to be the outcome totally changed by the time I reached the last page.D.D. Warren is a tough-talking, brash, bold cop who doesn't take any crap. Justice is her goal and she'll stop at nothing to get there. But there's a chink in her armour this time around. She's just found out she's pregnant. She's a character I just really enjoy. Tessa was an interesting character. I just couldn't predict where she was going to end up.I have actually listened to the last two book in audio format and I think I'll continue. The reader for D.D. is excellent. Kirsten Potter has a direct, no nonsense voice that is now the embodiment of D.D. for me. Katie MacNicholl was the reader for Tessa. Her voice seemed to change and grow as her character's circumstances changed. It was a good contrast with Potter's voice.Another great thriller full of twists and turns. A non stop read or listen! Fans of Harlan Coben or Linwood Barclay would enjoy this series.

This book is awesome! The plot is interesting, twisting, and believable. I love the change in D.D.'s life. The narrators are perfect! Wow!

The prior statements were made when I was 3/4ths through the book. Originally, I rated it 5 stars, but I am dropping it a bit now because the remainder was less believable (too tidy, too quick, too few consequences). Still a GREAT read!
