About this audiobook

#1 New York Times bestselling author Nora Roberts presents the second novel of her In the Garden trilogy, as three women must discover the secrets from the past contained within their historic home.…

A Harper has always lived at Harper House, the centuries-old mansion just outside of Memphis. And for as long as anyone alive remembers, the ghostly Harper Bride has walked the halls, singing lullabies at night.…

At forty-seven, Rosalind Harper is a woman whose experiences have made her strong enough to bend without breaking—and to weather any storm. A widow with three grown sons, she survived a disastrous second marriage and built her In the Garden nursery from the ground up. Through the years, In the Garden has become more than just a thriving business—it is a symbol of hope and independence to Roz, and to the two women she shares it with. Newlywed Stella and new mother Hayley are the sisters of her heart, and together, the three of them are the future of In the Garden.

Hired to investigate Roz’s Harper ancestors, Dr. Mitchell Carnegie finds himself just as intrigued by Roz herself. And as they begin to resurrect old secrets, Roz is shocked to find herself falling for the fascinating genealogist—even when he learns more about her than anyone has before.…

I love the book, I've always loved everything by her, but this particular audio version was not my favorite. There was a point where here you couldn't tell one character from another. But the story I love it.

This version of the audiobook recording is horrendous. This isn’t the original narrator, and I couldn’t listen to it at all, voice is harsh and poorly recorded.
Bummer I can’t listen to it as it’s book 2.

As always, a very enjoyable read. I’m enjoying the character development in this series, and it’s a nice change to read about a middle aged couple who finds love and trust again.

Second in the In the Garden series follows the well trodden Nora Roberts paranormal formula; a trio of strong female leads who manage quite nicely on their own, thank you, but meet their equal in a man whilst avoiding danger. Black Rose is the most interesting of the series, despite the fact that Roz (Rosalind Harper) and Mitch, the geneologist she hires to track the Harper Bride's past, are the oldest members of the group. Roz is very likeable and cares deeply for her grown up boys, because of this the ghost who haunts her ancestral home has always been kind to her, singing her children to sleep with lullabies. Now that Roz faces falling in love again the Harper Bride becomes angry and vengeful. More of the mystery is revealed in this one but the Harper Bride lacks any real menace so far to qualify for Henry James-ian psychological horror. The romance is very satisfying - if you can get past two older people enjoying sex, which some friends of mine found hampered their reading enjoyment. The two leads have great chemistry but the repeated references to gardening and the obvious withholding of information for the final installment makes this fairly average. My advice SKIM the gardening sections and hold out for the ghostly encounters. This is a paranormal trilogy that could have been an excellent single stand alone title in the manner of Three Fates. Fans of Nora Roberts in paranormal mode might want to check out the Key trilogy or her latest due out in September.

A great addition to the series, the love story was perfect and the ghost is really getting interesting.

Roz is running a gardening business out of her home and has hired Mitch to help investigate who might be the ghost that has been in her historical home all her life. She suspects one of her ancestors, but wants to find out for sure. This is the second book in a series (trilogy, I think). Unfortunately, it took me about 2/3 of the book to figure out who most the supporting characters were (though two of them would have been the main characters in the first book; I just remembered nothing about it!). Even after figuring out most of the characters, there were still a few that confounded me until the end. Anyway, I’m rating the book ok. The ghost story is the interesting part of the story. The romance – meh. Roz, I think, was 47 years old (my age), but to me, for some reason, I pictured her in her 60s! I’m not sure if I’ll read the last book or not, although I am curious to find out more about the ghost.

Soon as I finished this one I grabbed for Red Lily the 3rd and final book in this trilogy! eeek can't wait to see how it all ends!

I've never read a book that crawled into my bones and put fear in my veins. This one did just that...
It was raw, gritty, and scary.

The story will consume you from the beginning and stay with you long after the last page. It is about a girl who is kidnapped and taken to a cellar where other girls are being kept. Together they form a bond and help one another survive the brutal torture they receive. Their time is limited though... The girls witness murder and realize they must get out before it's too late.

The story is told in switched POVs. We get to see Lee's story of trying to survive and we also get to see Richard's search for his girlfriend. Normally, I am not a fan of multiple POVs, but with this one... it worked.

If you are wondering if it's similar to other books, I will say this... It is in a league of it's own. Yeah, it's your typical dark read, but the twists and turns along the way are incredible. They will have you on the edge of your seat, begging for an HEA.

Now, if you like your stories clean and romantic... This book is probably not for you. As stated, it is a wild ride with a MAJOR creep factor. There is rape and torture. You have been warned*

If you like a slightly messed up story... THIS ONE IS FOR YOU!
    Highly Recommend!

This was so good! Roz and Mitch are stepping up their search for the identity of the Harper Bride and things are getting very interesting around Harper House. Of course, the ghost isn't too thrilled about Roz and Mitch's budding romance and decides to make her feelings known. Gotta love a good haunting! Can Roz handle it? Read it and find out. I love these characters. Their is a delightful sense of family surrounding them and the close knit friendships are really well written. I also enjoyed the suspense in this book, including the side plot with Roz's ex. Bryce is a complete...um...jerk. It was a great opportunity to focus on her strength and independence. Moving on to the final book soon!

The second book of the "In The Garden" trilogy focused on the head of Harper House, Rosalind (Roz). I got to find out more about the "Harper Ghost", and watch the progression of the relationship between Roz and Mitchell Carnegie, the man who is researching the Harper geneology. The book doesn't contain much about Stella and Logan (from book 1) except for the wedding. There are some interesting scenes about Bryce Clerk (Roz's second husband) - her one error in judgement. It was also great to find out where the title originated. I liked this second book. Nora Roberts can keep me interested even though I might be able to anticipate where the various relationships might end up.

This series just isn't coming alive for me like most NR works. I know they are formulaic, but that's not my problem here. I'm really just not finding the characters interesting. There are sparks of interest, but nothing lasting.

In the Garden (#2) series –set in Memphis, TN - listened to book on audio and the narrator was too southern and country for me which was annoying. The book in itself was ok; however, not as good as some of Nora’s newer books.

Rosalind Harper, a 47 strong woman and queen Bof the mansion and owner of In the Garden, a nursery and thriving business. Newlywed Stella and new mother Haley live in the home, her stylish gay assistant, and her son in the guesthouse with some back stabbing southern women and vengeful ex-husband who keeps turning up. A ghost from the past Amelia is still making trouble (a man hater and past relative, whose lover stole her baby at birth as she was the mistress.)

Rosalind hires Mitch and he and Rosalind fall in love and develop a romance, while investigating the ghost and how she died and her connection to the family. Most of the book is about attacks from the ghost Amelia to uncover the truth about the ghost in order to put her to rest. Not one of my favorite series.

It's a Nora Roberts book, second in the In the Garden trilogy. It's pretty typical Roberts, exploring the lives of strong women. I enjoyed it, as I usually do.

One of Roberts' few titles in which the lady of the thing is over 40. The second installment of the In the Garden trilogy finds greenhouse owner Rosalind Harper battling her attraction for sexy-Harrison Ford resembling genealogist Mitchell Carnegie. For his part, Mitch isn't fighting the pull too hard. But once the Harper Bride, Amelia, isn't having it - as the ghost's objections grow more violent, the search for her identity heats up.Probably best to read Blue Dahlia first, but if you don't have it to hand, jumping in mid-stream shouldn't be too jarring a plunge.

Black Rose is the 2nd book from the In The Garden Trilogy. I enjoyed it, as much as Blue Dahlia, the 1st in the series. I liked the character depth, and the elements of supernatural behavior that is in the series. I thought the Amelia plot was better in this book then Blue Dahlia, but I found I enjoyed Blue Dahlia more because I thought Stella and Logan had more chemistry then Roz and Mitch. I’m just itching to read the conclusion to the series, Red Lily.

I've read enough Nora Roberts trilogies to know that the second one is usually the weakest of the three, and I like it the least. I read the first,Blue Dahlia, way back in January, so by now I've forgotten most of the story. And there isn't much of an ending, because the seeds for the third book have been planted. But such is life for the middle book of trilogies.Anyways, the main character of this book is the Matriarch of Harper House: Roz. She's sort of a southern businesswoman hardass whose not had an easy time in life. She falls for the cute professor who is researching her family history - specifically, the Harper Bride, a ghost that haunts the children of Harper House. Roz has an asshole ex-husband who is kind of cartoony (but the way she handles him is straight up cold shoulder and deadpan polite burns) and a garden business that, frankly, is probably not getting as much attention as it should have because everyone's getting funky.Nora Robert's characters aren't perfect. What I like best about them is that they are flawed. Roz is too vain and haughty, Mitch (the cute professor) is a recovering alcoholic, and the other characters are also real in the same sense. I'm not too sure about strict southern manners, but the social situations that Roz deals with as the matriarch of an important old family - they made me shudder. But pretty good. I liked her Ireland trilogies better, but that's probably because Ireland seems much more interesting to me than Memphis.

The second book in the "In the Garden" trilogy. I had a tough time getting into this one, it just moved a little to slow for me. I hope the final one Red Lily moves a little quicker. I had a tough time finding the main character in this story Roz to be very sympathetic. On one page she is a strong woman standing on her own (up to her ex-husband, his new girlfriend and a string of lies) and the next one she needs her son to carry her. I just didn't like this one as much.

It's the 2nd in the In The Garden trilogy, about 47-year-old Roz. Happy dances all around for the concept that women don't have to be 25 years old and model-perfect to get that HEA.Roz hires Mitchell to research the Harper Bride, the ghost that's haunted her house for years. The ghost's activity accelerates along with Roz & Mitchell's romance, as do the nasty tricks of Roz's ex-husband Bryce.Lots of gardening details and hints about the next book's couple of Hayley and Harper. If you're not a gardener before you read this book, you'll be inspired to give it a try when you're done.

This is the 2d in the Nora Roberts gardening trilogy, and it is a good as the first. Romance, the supernatural (in the form of a ghost), and gardening, what's not to like! The descriptions of the people, the plants, the emotions, the house are great. And, everything works out so well for everyone. The good people and love conquer all adversity. Very satisfying.
