    Impulse is an exciting mystery suspense that first came out in 1990. I've done a bit of rewriting and updated it.

    Now, I want you to get ready. Rafaella Holland, a Pulitzer Prize winner, now a journalist for the Boston Tribune, discovers from her comatose mother's journals that her "real" father is Dominick Giovanni, a wealthy, very powerful arms dealer who lives and runs his operations from his own private island compound in the Caribbean. She wants revenge for what he did to her mother. She wants to gather enough proof to send him to prison for the rest of his miserable life.

    Marcus Devlin manages the resort on Giovanni's Island, private playground for the wealthy and powerful. He's very good at what he does, but Rafaella wonders if he's really what he seems.

    Then someone tries to kill Dominick Giovanni. Who?

    Then someone tries to kill Rafaella and Marcus. Why?

    As Rafaella and Marcus grow closer, events threaten to spin out of control when their small world on Giovanni's Island starts to implode.

      This one kept me interested throughout! Excellent character portrayals, too.

      An interesting plot with interesting characters. Keeps you on the edge of your seat. I love this author.

      I think Obsession would be a better title for this one than Impulse. Rafaella Holland is an investigative reporter for the Boston Tribune. She is also the bastard daughter of black market weapons dealer Dominick Giovanni. Marcus Ryan O’Sullivan (aka Marcus Devlin) is working undercover for U.S. Customs as a resort manager for Giovanni.

      Rafaella’s mother Margaret is in a coma after an accident with a drunken driver. Rafaella finds her mother’s secret journals and discovers her parentage was not what she had been told. She heads to the Caribbean to find out about Dominick. The plot diverges into multiple lines and directions. There are assassination attempts, family discords, affairs, jealousy, and greedy characters. Rafaella is both attracted by Marcus and repelled by who she thinks he is.

      Margaret is obsessed with the man who seduced and abandoned her. Charles is obsessed with Margaret. Dominick is obsessed with his fortune and legacy. Eventually, most of the strings are disentangled and the storylines are resolved. Several endings are at least comfortable if not completely happy. Complex and recommended.
