I enjoyed reading this first book in the Rarest Blooms series. Madeline Hunter is a wonderful writer in the historical romance genre.

Hoping to clear her dead fathers name, Audrianna Kelmsleigh decides to respond to the advertisement placed by the mysterious "Domino" Armed with her cousin's gun, she takes a room at the Two Swords Inn. But the handsome man of commanding sensuality who shows up is not the Domino at all, but Lord Sebastian Summerhays one of her fathers prosecutors - who has been lured by the same advertisement. When Audrianna's gun accidentally fires the situation suddenly becomes public...
There is only one way out of the scandal that erupts. But she remains determined to exonerate her father even if it means risking her life, and her heart.

Interesting plot with hints of mystery and scandal -- unlike many others in the genre in that the heroine is the daughter of a gentleman, but not nobility. Decent writing, and no specific problems, though not terribly memorable; earns 4 stars.

Heroine seems like kind of an idiot - OK, but not great. I'm also a little dubious about the "group of women living together who don't ask questions about their pasts."

In her book, ravishing in red, Madeline hunter has managed to rise above the expected regency romance genre. We follow the story of a strong willed faithful daughter hoping to vindicate her father’s death I discovering what led to the tragic incident he was blamed for. In her search for the truth, she meets clandestinely with an informer but this meeting goes wrong and leads her into the path of a handsome strong Lord also looking for answers.
This story does not make use of the typical soul-searching, ghosts from the past, but manages to weave a compelling tale, in which family, friendship and the search for truth proves its own redemption. The deepening affection and sensuality of The main characters is convincing. listening to A good performance was quite a lot of fun.

Why is the audio so bad? It keeps skipping like a broken vinyl record

2nd read- This sets up the series pretty well, there's a bit of mystery, and the hurdles to their relationship were mostly due to their complicated circumstances, rather than them just getting in their own way a bunch.

This book has fantastic characters. I truly came to care about them, and I found the dialogue fresh and striking. If you’re into stories of convenient marriage and mystery, this is the one for you. 5/5 stars! Could not have been better.

Audriana Kelmsleigh's father committed suicide after being hounded about a scandal involving bad gunpowder being given to soldiers on the front. Lord Sebastian Sommerhays was one of the lead investigators and in an effort to discover the depths of the plot he stumbles upon Audriana trying to clear her father's name. Caught in a compromising situation the two are eventually marry. As the evidence against Audriana's father begins to grow, the couple draw closer together. Audriana develops a friendship with Sebastian's brother who has been chair bound since serving in the war. She helps both the brother and Sebastian deal with the complex feelings of their relationship. The plot twist is pretty predictable, but it is interesting to see the plausible way love develops between the two star crossed lovers.

I really enjoyed this book. Audrianna was determined to prove her father innocent, and worked to convince Sebastian of it. Their marriage started out by compulsion, but the chemistry between them led them down a different path. The mystery of the gunpowder was excellent, and not predictable, which made it more enjoyable for me.
