About this audiobook

A statue; a coin; an old book. They look as dusty as everything else in the Faulkner Antiquarian Bookstore, where 14-year-old Sam Faulkner seeks his father, who's been missing for days. But when Sam slips the coin into the statue, he's swept back in time -- to Scotland in 800 A.D. -- where he must find both the statue and another coin in order to return to the present. It's the first step in an adventure that will take him to ancient Egypt, World War I, even Dracula's castle -- and a mystery that will end only when Sam saves his father, or loses him in time . . .

This time travel adventure is a little slow in parts (or maybe it was the narrator, as I was listening on CD) but overall a great adventure. Part Time Machine and part Karate Kid, Sam is drawn into time travel while searching for his father, who has disappeared. Will Sam find him with the help of his cousin? And what is he going to do about the bully in his Judo class?

Time travel has always been a fascinating subject for me and while I was looking for a different book, I am very happy I bought this one. Sam is a fourteen year-old who finds himself trying to find a father who has been missing for ten days, ten days that included his birthday. While living with his grandparents, he rushes off to a Judo tournament that he forgot about, only to learn it has been postponed. A side trip to his father's bookstore and his home reveals a stone statue hidden in the basement and when Sam puts a coin in it, he is swept off to some unknown place in time. The story of this book was fast, short (213pages), and meant for kids. There is enough mystery inside these trips in time that it kept me reading. I can't wait to clear enough money from my paychecks to buy the second book. The highest praise I can give any book is this -- my son wants to read it now :)

Children's fiction; Time-travel. Fast-paced, lots of adventure, an easy read. Doesn't have a real ending as it was intended to have a sequel (or two?). The main character (Sam) visits several different time periods in search of his father (still missing at the end of the book) and takes on a number other challenges during his own time as well (facing a bully, approaching a girl he likes, bonding with his cousin, studying for his math finals).

Sam's father is missing. While searching the basement of his father's antique bookstore, Sam finds a statue, a book and a coin. Sam inserts the coin in the statue and is transported back to Scotland in 800 A.D. Every time Sam travels, he must find another coin to use the statue again. But how can he get home, and where is his father? This is an exciting adventure. Sam travels from the time of the Vikings, to World War 1, to ancient Egypt. He also faces troubles at home with bullies, and his step uncle. He grows and learns from each of his travels, and becomes stronger as well. Young readers will be drawn into Sam's experience and maybe learn a bit of history along the way. Prevost originally wrote historical mysteries for adults and makes every effort to keep the historical information accurate. His goal (according to the interview in the back of the book), is to show kids that History is fascinating. This is the first book in a trilogy.

Sam's father has disappeared for days without explanation all of his life but when his dad is gone for weeks he tries to find out why and discovers a secret room with a secret key. His adventures take him to different time periods and ends with a plea for help from his father. (translated from the French)

Listened to audio version. The first book in the Book of Time series. A good, action-packed, book. Sam travels back in time to find and possibly rescue his missing father. Story gives some good snap-shots throughout history.

This is the first book in the Book of Time series. Sam's father has gone missing and in a search to find him, Sam finds a time portal. The beginning of the book is Sam travels around various historic sites, some more pleasant than others. The rest of the book Sam begins to learn how to control the portal and refines his search with the help of his cousin. The book ends in a cliff hanger. While I loved the premise, there were too many characters for me to care about.

Sam Faulkner finds a strange statue in the basement of his house, in a secret room. He is transported to a different time period and only can leave with a coin that has a hole in the middle. He finds that his father may have been traveling the same way before he went missing 10 days ago and embarks on an adventure to try to find him.

This was just so disappointing because nothing happened! The so-called ending of this book was a judo tournament? Even when Sam was in the other time periods, he pretty much limped along having conversations with himself about why he was there; each setting seemed to have one big action piece that ended with a fizzle. The audiobook reader threw a bunch of accents around, but I don't think he could have saved the story.

Sam's dad is missing. He has gone before but not for so long. Sam is living with his grandparents and trying to cope with school, the local bully and a missing parent. He finds a secret room in the basement of his father's closed bookstore. The room contains a mysterious stone that is activated when a coin with a hole in the center is place on its center. The stone transports Sam back into time. He travels to ancient Ireland, then to World War I France and then to ancient Egypt. When he finally makes it back home he tries to discover where in time his father has gone.
