      I believe I first read this trilogy in grade school from one of those scholastic book catalogs. I loved the series at the time, and still enjoyed it as an adult. Its a fun and exciting adventure story with twists and great characters.

      Six kids board the Phoenix in Guam, but not because they are going on a fancy boating trip. They’re all there for one reason- because they have a lesson to learn. Their parents or the court system has decided that the Charting a New Course program is what they need. A month on the water learning to sail and getting in touch with nature is expected to change all of them. Lyssa and Will are siblings, but JJ, Charla, Ian, and Luke have never met. Getting to know each other is better than any time spent with the first mate, who barks at them all the time and seems angry by everything they do. After a terrible storm sends the captain overboard and the ship starts taking on water the kids realize they are in way over their heads. Waking to find the first mate has taken the life boat and left them stranded makes them rise to the challenge. When an explosion causes the ship to catch fire and sink they must do what they can to survive. Only four of the kids are together and the fate of the other two is unknown. Did they get off the sinking boat in time? Staying afloat on a piece of the shipwreck is more work than the kids would have expected, and the thirst they have is like nothing they've ever known. Landing on what appears to be a deserted island seems like a stroke of good luck, but are they really alone? Do they have the skills to survive? Can the kids can be saved? Don’t wait to find out- go get this series!

      If you like adventure and survival stories, and haven’t read the Island series by Gordon Korman, then I highly recommend it for both boys and girls. There are three books in the series: Shipwreck, Survival, and Escape. The books are perfect for anyone in fourth grade and up. Not only will you learn skills that may help you survive on your own, you will be amazed at the ways the kids learn to believe in themselves. With so many characters, there is sure to be someone readers will connect with, and reading about them makes you see that there's more to people than we think. I was rooting for the kids and felt worried, happy, sad, and scared for them throughout the book. I hope I am never in a situation where I am on a shipwreck, but it was entertaining to read about!

      Island was a good book , but i ended up dropping it after about 40 pages . for me it was to slow on explaining the characters , also it wasn't on my level reading . it was a really small book that i thought would be for a lower grade . It was mostly about how the characters got on the ship , and how much they dreaded it . i didn't make it to the actual ship wreck part but im sure the rest of the series is good .

      This book is about six teenagers who were stuck on a boat for half of the year. They all never met before and they were never on a boat before. They were fine at sea until they hit a terrible storm. The storm destroyed the boat and sunk into the ocean. Luckily, the kids survived the storm, made a raft, and were stranded in the ocean. They were stuck in the ocean for days then finally they found land. Now they must rely on each other to survive. I like this book because the kids survive the ocean and not adults. The best part was when one of the kids dove into the water to avoid getting sunk. The worst part was when they were stranded on the raft. The funniest part was when Luke gets hit in the head by the door. I like the twist in this book. I like the description of the ocean. If you like books about island survival then this is the book for you.

      Island is a book full of adventure. When six kids go aboard a boat, they never dreamed of this happening. SHIPWRECK!!! It takes all their guts to srvive. Thats why this book is so amazing.

      Imangine yourself out as sea with a doubt as if this was actually fake or real. You never know when you can be even more lost in the waters or maybe you may arrive at a island? or maybe even you may be saved? In the book island by Gordon Korman it's an amazing book that you can't put down. You always wonder what will actually happen next. The book starts with 1 more kid each or every few days arriving at a boat for disipline. They each have a history and their own little secret, but throughout the story they start to find ot more about each other and their differences. It starts off as a normal boat with chores and gross food, even a bedroom as small as a closet. Everyone dreads the boring day of moping floors, non-decent food and sleeping in a closet. Just like they wished for, action appears, but it may not've been the kind of excitement they've wished for. Days and days of storms happen and it's the most rough at sea. Even though they didn't expect it, the boat starts filling up with plenty of water more that which they can even keep up with. Then on a night of a very feirce storm, the captin disappers. The 6 kids wonder if he's dead or perheaps he drowned? Then as days goes by, more people disappers including a very important person on the boat, also employees, cooks, everyone. Soon enough they were the only one left on the boat. One wonders if this is some lame tv show they're filming, even though the others knew that's probably not the case. One night the boat couldn't take it anymore and spilt into two, the 6 kids went in all different parts of the waters. Trying there best 4 of them find each other, but 2 still missing. Even though as days past they still didn't give up. They tried their best for survivial, eating nothing, drinking rain water and some even having to stay in the water as shark-bait. Just as they almost can't take it anymore, they got a surprise and a island awaits them. When they arrived, some was as happy as can be, but they never know the adventure ahead of them. This book puts you on the end of the seat. It was really great reading this and you never know what will happen next.
