About this audiobook
For 30 years, Robert Ludlum's novels have set the standard for the finest in international intrigue and suspense. With an unbroken string of bestsellers in almost every country in the world, Ludlum's books have been read by hundreds of millions of readers, and are acknowledged as classics in the field. Now, after the bestselling The Hades Factor and The Cassandra Compact comes the third thrilling novel in the Covert-One series - Robert Ludlum's The Paris Option.
An explosion in the middle of the night reduces part of Paris' esteemed Pasteur Institute to rubble. Among the missing is the world's top computer scientist, Emile Chambord. Even though a terrorist group claims responsibility for the bombing, many in the intelligence community suspect the scientist was actually kidnapped and the bomb set to divert attention. Chambord may have been close to devising a working molecular computer which, in the wrong hands, could be the most deadly weapon in the world. If he were now in the hands of hostile forces, the consequences would be unspeakably dire.
From Paris to London, Brussels, and Algiers, Covert-One agent Jon Smith searches for traces of the scientist and the ambitious forces behind the bombing and theft. With the help of MI5 agent Peter Howell, CIA agent Randi Russell, and cyber-wizard Marty Zellerbach, Smith uncovers a web of deception that threatens to reshape Europe and is one step away from destroying the United States.

- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5The plot twist with the space shuttle was just a bit over the top. But still, better than average thriller. It's a "Covert-One" novel, which seems to be the thing to do at the moment. Find someone to write it with and start a group of novels under the same heading. Reminded me so much of Tom Clancy, that I started to read another one of his novels today..... Anyway, back to Ludlum - yeah, good read, something for Clancy-fans.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5A continuation of the Covert One series. The bad guys want to contaminate the world with smallpox and our heroes save us from that scourge-but, the space shuttle? That's a bit over the top. Our characters read/listen nicely...but a hero named John Smith? How mundane. Decent book, exciting, fast paced.
- Rating: 1 out of 5 stars1/5I'm generally a Ludlum fan. But do we really need another secret agency that will save the world on a weekly basis? Do we need more secret agents that cannot die (don't we already have Bourne)? Can we really not think of any bad guys besides Russian former KGB? The thriller publishing industrial complex missed these as rhetorical questions and answered a resounding yes! Sadly this is not classic Ludlum. This is outsourced writing at its worst.Casting Big Pharna as bad guy was the one redeeming quality in this otherwise totally formulaic thriller. Recommended only for those looking do do research on why authors should stop writing after a finite number of novels, all others should stay home to shampoo their hair.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5As book #2 in the covert-one series it lacked the so called character development seen in the first book so if you were a new coming and had not read the Hades Factor you may feel the characters were a little hollow.
However, as someone who has read the Hades Factor prior to this, I can definitely say the assumption of knowing the characters definitely aided this story - whilst the first book was ok, this one was firmly in 'good' territory.
A nice paced read.
