About this audiobook

A canine Search and Rescue volunteer fights danger and finds love in the Pacific Northwest wilderness in this riveting #1 New York Times bestseller from Nora Roberts.

To most people, Fiona Bristow seems to have an idyllic life—a quaint house on an island off Seattle’s coast, a thriving dog-training school and a challenging volunteer job performing Canine Search and Rescue. But Fiona got to this point by surviving a nightmare: an encounter with the Red Scarf Killer, who shot and killed Fiona’s cop fiancé and his K-9 partner.

On Orcas Island, Fiona has found the peace and solitude necessary to rebuild her life with her three loyal Labs. But all that changes on the day intensely private wood artist Simon Doyle barrels up her drive with an out-of-control puppy, desperate for her help.

As Fiona embarks on training Jaws, and Simon begins to appreciate both dog and trainer, the past tears back into Fiona’s life. A copycat killer has emerged out of the shadows, a man whose bloodlust has been channeled by a master with one motive: to reclaim the woman who slipped out of his hands...

What another good book, romance, intrigue, laughter and dogs, what more can you ask for. Couldn’t stop listening but then sad when it finished. Really good

I haven't read a Nora Roberts novel in a long time and enjoyed this title. If one is not familiar (as I am not), one can learn alot about training puppies and about Search and Rescue Canine teams. The author is shown on the back cover with two (2) dogs so I’m wondering if she has personal experience with training dogs or attending dog obedience classes or went to training classes with her dogs for Search and Rescue as research for this novel as the language needed to compose the storyline seemed absolute second nature within the ease of her storytelling. I would think that those that love dogs would love this novel.

Fiona Bristow, dog trainer, search and rescue canine handler and op leader, and most of all SURVIVOR! A victim when George Perry serial killer captured her and SURVIVOR when she escaped and helped put him in prison for life. Now George Perry has created a proxy in his image with the responsibility of ending her life.
Nora Roberts take the story of serial killer and weaves a fascinating blend of emotions that reach through the page and grab you by the throat and heart. Then adds the knowledge of dog training and search and rescue which informs and instructs.
As a story teller she tops my list and I am so glad I had the opportunity to enjoy the narrative. And, Lenny, my chihuahua thanks her for the discipline I was able to impart from her instruction in dog handling.

It was a decent book, I love dogs so I really enjoyed that part of it. But it kinda dragged when it came to the killer, & the last 1-2minutes was muted so I haven’t been able to truly hear the entire end

Lately I've complained that NR put far too much research in her books and it looks like it started around this one. Not that much as later on - and luckily I like dogs - but more than she did before. Not one of her best, but I still liked it.

Good book, good narration. Sometimes a narrator can ruin a good book but in this instance the narrator and book matched very well. Enjoyable.

Excellent writer! About three months ago, I had a dream about Nora Roberts’ books! I have never read any books by her! Twenty plus years ago, My sister in law read Nora’s Books. She would share some of Nora’s stories and tell his much she loved reading her work! After the dream (my deceased brother was in my dream) a few months ago, I knew without a doubt that I had to get her books! I have read at least 4 so far! Excited about reading all of her books! Thank you Nora!

This book dragged in my opinion. I recall enjoying it years ago, but I guess either my taste has changed, or I now have newer books by Nora Roberts that I've read for comparison and know that her writing has improved and this one doesn't compare favourably. The storyline is very good but the pacing is not good and the time spent developing the relationships between the main characters is dragged out too much. If you haven't read her other books, don't judge her work based upon this one. She does write other excellent stories.

Story of a strong women who doesn't let a past horrific incident define her.

Very enjoyable read. In particular, I really liked all the information of dog training. It added an additional layer to the book beyond the romance and beyond the suspense. The characters were multi-dimensional. And the female protagonist was smart and took steps to protect herself from danger. The male protagonist was strong and not perfect, which was great.

Nora Roberts is a compete comfort read for me and this didn't disappoint. All her favorite elements making it a successful if fairly standard romance.

I figured that I would try several NR books on my latest trip to the library. I grabbed two or three and started with The Search.

Better than I expected. There is a lot of dog content, as others have warned, but I didn't find it over-the-top.

I love Nora Roberts when she writes as J.D. Robb. I have yet to have the same feeling for her other books. This one took FOREVER to get to any suspense and it was so contrived.

    Synopsis:
Fiona Bristow trains search and rescue dogs, and is the only survivor of the Red Scarf Killer. Now, just as her life has taken a new romantic turn with sexy wood artist, Simon Doyle, Fiona has become the target of her tormentor’s apprentice. Can she outwit this vicious murderer and save his latest victim, or will she perish in the attempt?

    Review:
Nora Roberts is a gifted storyteller and this is no exception. The witty banter between her characters is particularly enjoyable, although I must say that Simon’s brusqueness takes some getting used to. Nevertheless, his chemistry with Fiona is potent and their relationship develops in an engaging way.
The serial killer plot is where the tale takes a troublesome turn. To begin with, his identity is revealed far to early and I prefer following clues and figuring it out for myself. Second, his motivations are indistinct and poorly detailed, and finally, despite the excellent build up of tension throughout the book, the conclusion is disappointing and anti-climactic.
Recommendation: These faults reflect my own personal peeves and that said, this is a highly entertaining read for fans and newbies alike.

4.5 starsFiona has three dogs, and all are trained in Search and Rescue. She also runs a dog training business. When Simon moves to the island she lives on, and comes for training with his puppy, of course, they fall for each other. Fiona has some scary stuff in her past, though. She managed to escape from a serial killer, who was later imprisoned. Now there seems to be a copycat killer out there, killing in exactly the same way and it's not only bringing back memories, it's hitting too close to home. I really enjoyed this. Not only did I love the dogs, the Search and Rescue and dog training stuff, but the serial killer storyline was really good, I thought. Simon, I could take or leave, but the rest of the book as definitely enough for me to rate this one of the highest I've read by NR (the other also involving animals: Black Hills).

Before this, the last Nora Roberts book I read was the Bride Quartet series. (great series if you haven't read it ) I forgot how comfortable it can be to sink into a romantic suspense book by Nora Roberts.

The books heroine is Fiona who trains dogs and belongs to s search & rescue team, she is also a victim and survivor of a kidnapping. Now years later she is once again in the sights of a criminal mind.

The Hero is Simon a master carpenter who is a loner by choice. But when his mother delivers a new puppy to his home he is disparate to get help with this loveable terror Jaws.

As Fiona starts training both Simon & Jaws, Simon becomes tangled in helping Fiona stay ahead of the criminal mind tracking her.

I enjoyed this romantic suspense. I particularly liked that the plot covers both the rescue dogs events and the serial killer activities. It was interesting how the heroine handled the hero and his caveman tendencies. Simon brings his out-of-control puppy to Fiona's school for training.

I liked this one so much better than her last single title, thank goodness. Granted, I did think it was a tad longer than it needed to be. But, I liked how she built on Fiona and Simon's relationship.

I liked Simon a lot, though, I suppose I can understand if some won't. She made him out to be very anti-social, surly and rude with a tendency toward violent behavior. Not exactly everyone's vision of a "dream man." But, right or wrong, so many of us tend to like the "bad boys," and especially reformed "bad boys." Simon had just enough of a "sweet" side, that I just had to like him.

Fiona was strong and capable, and I like that she was that way before her abduction and after. (Not a spoiler, we learn of her abduction at the beginning of the book). She's a survivor, not a victim, and even though the abduction changed her whole life, but her whole life didn't revolve around the abduction.

Overall a great read if you like Nora, but non-Nora fans, might feel it's a bit too long. Three stars, but really, more like three and a half for me.

Fantastic. One of her best books!

I wish I could increase the stars on this book, but as many reviewers have previously mentioned, Roberts spends way too much time detailing how to train dogs and the step-by-step process of using search-and-rescue dogs. If you cut 90% of that description out, the book would surely drop 100 pages and be much better for it.

It's a nice read, and I really like the characterization of Simon. He is a straight-talking, no-nonsense guy who says exactly what he thinks, with most of it unflattering to the heroine. For some reason, it strikes me as honest and authentic, and I adore it.

Unfortunately, Fiona comes off very controlling and boring with the insane tendency to treat the whole world—family and friends included—as dogs to be trained. Normally I wouldn't mind, but the overanalyzing thoughts bog down the narrative and make the character flat, though not quite unlikable.

Otherwise, an enjoyable story. So to be fair, it's more of a 3 1/2-star book, though it still misses out on its full potential.

A dog trainer for canine search and rescue on a island, a serial killer on prowl and a rude, dishy carpenter. Intriguing, only serial killer was bit too easy to tame and rude dude quick to fold up. I wish Simon Doyle's character was too hasty to crumble. That said, it was an interesting, fast read - that came by my way thanks to my team member, her book with strong recommendation to finish it. ;)
