DAY TWO: THE WISE MAN’S FEAR
“There are three things all wise men fear: the sea in storm, a night with no moon, and the anger of a gentle man.”
My name is Kvothe. You may have heard of me.
So begins a tale told from his own point of view—a story unequaled in fantasy literature. Now in The Wise Man’s Fear, Day Two of The Kingkiller Chronicle, Kvothe takes his first steps on the path of the hero and learns how difficult life can be when a man becomes a legend in his own time.
Patrick Rothfuss
Patrick Rothfuss was born in Wisconsin where long winters and lack of cable television brought about a love of reading and writing. His mother read to him as a child, and his father taught him to build things. If you are looking for the roots of his storytelling, look there. He still lives in central Wisconsin, still lacks cable television, teaches at the college he grew to love as a student and the long winters force him to stay inside and write.

- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5I just finished listening to this book; All 42 hours of it! although it is long, it flows seamlessly all through and gives the impression the author could easily have kept on going. can't recommend enough.

- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5It is really overrated. The books hypes itself, the author tells you, that you will hear the most magnificent occurences but it never comes true. Generic Fantasy in my opinion

- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5the audiobook narrator is absolutely amazing. the only part that felt slightly jarring was the interpretation of the ademic accent; otherwise, no complaints at all about the audiobook.

- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5one of the best novels I have read in a while. The way the writer made me feel as if I was walking along side the characters of the story was just fantasic.

- Rating: 2 out of 5 stars2/5I've read this book a couple of times and this is my first time listening to it. I guess you pick up on different things when you listen versus reading.
The main love interest, Denna, is pretty despicable. There is a sob story to justify how she has no other choice but to be a con artist and sleep around, but she just comes off as self serving while using the MC, Kvothe, as an emotional crutch. Kvothe can be entertaining, but he can also be a really petty person. Honestly, I don't think I would want to be friends with Kvothe or Denna in real life.
I like how the author tells the story. He jumps back and forth in a character's timeline to create parallel plots. There are subtle hints you can pick up about the MC realizing something as MC retells parts of his own story.
I like a lot of the world the author builds. It isn't perfect. It is rather gritty and dark, with some redeeming kindness scattered around.
I think it would be better to read this book. Listening to it nakedly exposes the story as a juvenile guilty pleasure. For some reason, making threats against people's lives if they don't immediately obey your whim sounds better in your head than said out loud.1 person found this helpful
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5So good, but many a time I have blown off Trilogy due to the length of time to next installment. Please Patrrick, finish this book. Had JK Rowling taken her time, she wouldn't have been one of the leading and legendary voices for all women.
I love what you do for charity, but imagine how well you could help as a billionaire.
Writing is difficult, and you have a gift.
To the reader, Please read both of these books and join the line of millions waiting for the final piece of this masterpiece.1 person found this helpful
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Thankfully the third book is not out yet, and I can catch a break and do things...
The reader is simply superb, excellent reading, wonderful voice and impeccable voice acting1 person found this helpful
- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5Good narrative poor plot. Repetitive in terms of the characters antagonists. His love interest is awkward and you can replace an entire interaction with a prior one without knowing the difference.
Points for pushing the locations and adding more characters. But...it ends with the notion that neither the protagonist or his enemies change or progress.
Detach him from his love interest and push the fantasy and Noble plot intrigue elements.
I fear the final book will be more of the same.1 person found this helpful

- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5A very compelling and interesting book with one of the most annoying protagonists in literature. Occasionally, the protagonist does something so stupid that he ends up in a "perils of Pauline" fix, and I almost want to put the book down - but I don't and I am glad I don't.

Oops..? I love Patrick Rothfuss' books but it's time to stop rereading over and over. - Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5The BEST story I’ve ever had the pleasure of listening to, amazing narrator, the most INCREDIBLE fantasy story, honestly no one else has created such intricate and intriguing characters and a world quite like this. I have read hundreds of fantasy books and this series is my absolute favourite now. You won’t find another character quite like Kvothe.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Great book. Ready for the next one. Bring it on!
