New York City's number-one detective, Michael Bennett, has a huge problem: the Son of Sam, the Werewolf of Wisteria, and the Mad Bomber are all back. The city has never been more terrified.

Tick: a killer's countdown begins

A rash of horrifying crimes tears through the city, throwing it into complete chaos and terrorizing everyone living there. Immediately, it becomes clear that they are not the work of an amateur, but of a calculating, efficient, and deadly mastermind.

Tick: Michael Bennett is on the chase

The city calls on Detective Michael Bennett, pulling him away from a seaside retreat with his 10 adopted children, his grandfather, and their beloved nanny, Mary Catherine. Not only does it tear apart their vacation, it leaves the entire family open to attack.

Tock: your time is up

Bennett enlists the help of a former colleague, FBI Agent Emily Parker. As his affection for Emily grows into something stronger, his relationship with Mary Catherine takes an unexpected turn. All too soon, another appalling crime leads Bennett to a shocking discovery that exposes the killer's pattern and the earth-shattering enormity of his plan.

Michael Bennett is an Irish-American widower. He has 10 children from a variety of racial backgrounds. He has an Irish nanny and his grandfather living with him and helping with the kids. The kids experience prejudice on vacation.I felt a little uncomfortable with his casually pursuit of a relation ship with his young nanny.I was thinking of the differences in age and power Also how it would hurt the kids if he messed it up.Also found it odd when someone's "research" didn't include information on the family.

Bit dragged out, not as good as other Patterson books in my opinion

It was a definite thriller, full of suspense, action, and gore. A bit longer than necessary, even if it was a quick read. Michael gets a call on vacation ( I guess there's nobody else in NYPD who can detect crimes?) and the crisis evolves out to his vacation home. Characters include a ten person child posse, a single dad, an Irish nanny that sometimes doubles as wife and an unwitting partner/bedmate FBI agent. If you believe all that, i have some land in Florida to sell. Not a bad cop story, overall and the publisher's marketing machine definitely affected this one.

This was my first Patterson novel, and I was overwhelmingly disappointed. I don't even know where to start, but I'll just ask this - it took TWO people to write this? Wow. It is super short and very choppy. There are 106 chapters, most of them just two or three pages, but with the spacing and margins, I can't even call those actual pages. The dialogue is poorly written, and reads like it is at a 7th or 8th grade reading level. The main character drives back and forth so much, that dozens of chapters seem to be dedicated to just that activity! And we are beaten over the head with the character being Irish! Geez, someone should invent a drinking game to drink whenever the word "Irish" pops up! You'd be loaded pretty quickly for sure!

On the positive side, I did like the idea of a copycat doing famous murders and bombings from New York City's history and I did like the Berger character. I just wish a different author(s) had tackled the execution of the idea!

I actually started this book twice. The first time I put it down because I found the dialogue trite. Then I thought I would give it another go because I kept trying to figure out where it was going. What the writing lacks in character it makes up for in action. As a true crime "buff" I found the similarities to historical crimes fascinating. As a former New Yorker I found it exciting to be able to relate to locations. I could have lived without the stereotypical Irish cop stories and the romance was lackluster at best. But it's a better than average story. Slightly disappointed with the ending but since the main character is "ongoing" I can only hope he has more adventures in the future. And PS I am going to check out some of the other Michael Bennett tales from the past.

Great read! Fast paced and very exciting! I read this book in one day. I think I like his Bennett character as much as Cross. He can be very entertaining. Loved this book.

4th Michael Bennett I've read and I do really like this series. This is another classic thriller by Patterson that is action packed from the beginning. Michael returns this time on holiday with his family when he gets a call that there's a bomb planted in a library but it's wasn't meant to go off. However the next bomb will. Michael is called and obviously leaves his 10 children worth the nanny and runs off to the city to check it out. From this point on the bomber starts recreating murders from previous murderers and he leaves a note FAO Bennett. Emily Parker from the FBI also returns to help solve the crimes when the Nypd and Bennett hit a wall. Meanwhile on holiday, Bennetts kids are being bullied by another kid and gets a bit slapped around. Bennetts too busy saving NYC to deal wit it but tries. Add to this his complicated love life - does he want the nanny or Emily? This book is fast paced worth the usual short chapters and keeps you interested to the very end. 3.5/5

As usual another great addition to the Michael Bennet Series. Very interesting twist of events, when you think you have things figured out, there is always little twist, I was genuinely proud of Michael and his actions with Emily and hoping to see what happens next time around. Loved the characters in this including the bad guys interesting on how they worked their crimes.

Fast read. Follows same writing style as all his other books. I like the references to NYC and part of the setting was in Breezy Point which was severely damaged in Hurricane Sandy.

Finally, Patterson was able to capture some of the magic of the first novel! The mystery/thriller element of the novel is on par with the best the author has to offer, but, once again, the human side of the story is what makes this a great read. By focussing a generous amount of time on Michael Bennett and his family, Patterson has made me care for his character again. It seems that after several absolute flops, story wise, Patterson has finally regained the spark that made his early novels so enjoyable. I devoured this novel in an afternoon and can't wait to see what happens next to Detective Michael Bennett!

Tick Tock could quite easily be an Alex Cross novel, with serial killers and the protagonist's hunt for romance running in parallel. Bennett stories so far have been action oriented and Tick Tock, despite the more crime driven plot, still offers plenty of murder and mayhem. It's a typical Patterson story, full of twists, diabolical killers and swift but impacting violence. The split between Bennett's home and work lives is still well balanced, creating a page-turning treat. A welcome new chapter in the series.

Personal Review for audiobook: While never reading a James Paterson novel before, I found Tick Tock very thrilling. I found myself eager drive in order to listen to the story a bit more. I feel both Paterson and Michael Ledwidge did a great job engrossing me into the story. The actors and readers for the audiobook did an excellent job making me feel anger, hurt and happiness.

This was an ok book, worthy of reading, but glad that I am finished with it. It did hold my interest but I didn't care much for the dispute with Flaherty, seemed pointless unless you read through to the end, although I still felt unnecessary. The ending was rushed, and you somewhat expected the outcome.

Really didn't care for this one. It was rushed, especially the end. Rushed, contrived. Of *course* it ended up with Flaherty saving his live because otherwise that story line was pointless. Apt on the beach ala Kyle Cross on the beach. Don't really care for Mike B the gigolo. The first three in this series were far better and I really liked Bennett in those initial ones. Felt like the whole family thing was just a sideshow.

Another quick-read, page-turner from Mr. Patterson & this co-author. I read it in one day. I especially liked the introduction of humor and references to current things. I found myself chuckling several times throughout the book. I look forward to the next installment in the life of Michael Bennett & his family.

Michael Bennett is my hero and not just because he goes out and catches the bad guys. Any man who can parent ten children has got to be part hero and part saint, especially if he can stay sane in the process. That being said, Tick Tock, this latest installment in the Michael Bennett series did not disappoint. The dialogue is perfect, the pacing of the story-excellent, the main plot-intriguing; but what made it even better were all the little, developing sub-plots. Will Mike ever take the leap with Mary Catherine? Will the vacationing Bennett family continue to be targeted by the Flahertys? Will Emily get back into the picture?Murders are occurring throughout the city, but what has the police even more worried is the fact that each of the murders is a recreation of a famous murder from the past. Could these murders possibly be the work of a single individual?Great read. Highly recommended.

The Michael Bennett series is not one of my favorite James Patterson series. I feel that Bennett is too cocky and too invincible. Michael and his deceased wife Mauve adopted a ragtag assortment of ten children, which I feel defies common sense, especially, given the prejudice in society. Of course, Mary Catherine, the children's nanny spices up the mix. The romantic involvement between Mary Catherine and Michael falls short of reality. Michael stands a better chance with FBI agent Emily Parker. As usual, I enjoy Patterson's style of short chapters, and the utter deviousness of the villain. Yes, money can facilitate of sojourn of crime.

Tick Tock started out to be a decent mystery/thriller but then by the time I got to the half-way point things started going down hill. Many of the scenarios involving the NYPD detectives didn't even make sense. I was never much of a fan of James Patterson literary contraption that cranks out books with a co-author as a side-kick. This is not a terrible book, but its not a great book either. I wouldn't recommend anyone spending any money on Tick Tock.

Michael Bennett is my least favorite character from James Patterson. The stories wrap themselves in the the megalomanic New York City mantle of "world's greatest city" and the suffering, proud survivors of the infamous terrorist attack of 9/11. Just exactly what does Michael Bennett do for the N.Y.P.D. that makes him such a central character? He is not successful at catching bad guys and he is no romantic hero either. What began as a character with real possibility has descended to a confusion of who is Bennett and what really does he do?Another thing; I find the blatant, almost continuous product placement of upscale items (cars, watches, clothes, etc.) in this book or anyone's book extremely annoying. So you know the brand names of exclusive high-end products. Big whoop, who cares. It doesn't add to the story line so why do some authors do it?

What a disappointment - I love the character of Mike Bennett and this book does not do him justice. The only ticking I heard was the time I wasted reading this book. Come on Mr. Patterson - slow down on the writing of your branded books and focus on the great writing of which you are so capable! I always buy/read your books... what a let down!

This is the 4th book in the Mike Bennett series. I've read each on as it came out. I had this book when it first came out but didn't pick it up to really read it until today (so many other things to do and read!) I read the whole book in one day, daylight hours. It's a good Mike Bennett book, quite fast paced, frenetic energy to it actually. Practically impossible to put down. (I did put it down, but not for long.) Not only was Mike Bennett chasing down the latest NYC serial killer, but also trying to take a well deserved vacation, exploring MC more, and figuring out how to protect his family from the Irish badboys up the road by the ancestral vacation beach house. His FBI friend also comes to NYC to aide Mike in more than one way. Things are solved all around, but not neatly. It's a fun read, and reminds me of how I felt after the second to last Jack Reacher book (61 Hours, Lee Child) NEEDING the next one sooner than later, way sooner than later. That's how Tick Tock makes me feel. More Michael Bennett, please!

TICK TOCK by James Patterson & Michael LedwidgePublished by Little, Brown and CompanyISBN 978-0-316--03791-4At the request of The Hachette Book Group, an ARC TB was sent, at no cost to me, for my honest opinion. Synopsis: (from back of book): NYC's #1 Detective, Michael Bennett, has a huge problem-the Son Of Sam, The Werewolf of Wisteria, and The Mad Bomber are all Back. The City ha never been more terrified! Tick-A Killer's Countdown BeginsA rash of horrifying crimes rips through the city, throwing it into complete chaos and terrorizing everyone living there. As his affection for Emily grows into something stronger, his relationship with Mary Catherine takes an unexpected turn. All too soon, another appalling crime leads Bennett to a shocking discovery that exposes the killer's pattern and the earth-shattering enormity of his plan. My Thoughts and Opinion: If you are a fan of Mystery/Suspense, then I can sum this book up in 2 words and the majority of readers will know exactly what I mean. And those two words are James Patterson!!! Patterson is true to form, with his short chapters, the kind that I call "just one more chapter" reads and you have read 10. Cliff hanging chapters whereas you just have to continue reading. Suspense that takes your breath away like on a wild roller coaster ride with twists and turns. Two words!!! James Patterson!!! Michael Bennett, NYPD detective extraordinaire, is enjoying a seaside vacation with his family of 10 children, father and nanny. This should have been my first clue to put the book down, but Tick-Tock, I read on. A serial killer is terrorizing New York City by impersonating serial killers from the past. The crimes from the likes of Son of Sam and The Mad Bomber are being re-created and superhero Michael Bennett is called away from vacation to save the day.Tick-Tock, at least this is a quick read. The plot was decent and kept the pace moving, but the author felt a need to attempt to interject romantic sub-plots, which did nothing for the story nor add any character depth. For some reason ALL the ladies fawn over Mr. Bennett. The nanny, a former partner, a random journalist, The First Lady (okay the last one is a lie) cannot seem to resist Bennett’s charms. Why even bother being a detective! By the end I was actually rooting for the bad guy in hopes that this would end the possibility of another Michael Bennett novel.Final thoughts: Tic-Tock would be okay for a quick airplane or beach read, but you can find better… and you should.

Tick Tock is the fourth novel in the Michael Bennett series, it's up there in how enthralling it is with Worst Case, once you start it's hard to put down. This time around a criminal is executing people and placing bombs throughout New York City, naturally the brass call in Michael Bennett, hot shot detective, to sort it out and capture the perpetrator. All the while this is going on the Bennett family go for a holiday by the beach where another Irish family with young kids is present and there's friction between the kids leading to threats and stitches. In addition, Michael & Mary continue down their romantic road, whilst FBI Agent Emily Parker also comes to down to assist with the case once again distracting Michael Bennett with his wandering eyes.An enjoyable law enforcement romp that has all the elements of a fantastic cop novel, and manages to pull them all together well.

Tick Tock is the 4th book in the Michael Bennett series by prolific author James Patterson. Bennett is on his summer holiday at Breezy Point with his ten children, nanny, Mary Catherine and Grandpa Seamus. With a romance possibly budding with Mary Catherine, Bennett is called back to work as a series of bomb attacks starts in New York City. As the action escalates, with murders and explosions and a kidnapping, Bennett enlists the help of FBI agent, Emily Parker. It seems that the perpetrator is copy-catting notorious New York crimes from the past. As Bennett and Parker try to track down the killer, Bennett also finds himself attracted to Parker. The pace of this novel is fast, once again with Patterson’s trademark short chapters. Quite a good plot: I will look forward to the next Michael Bennett instalment.

This is the fourth installment in the series about New York Detective Michael Bennett. I enjoyed all the previous installments, but this one just wasn't as good. What I liked about the book: As with most Patterson books there was a lot of action. It was certainly a thrilling story with quick pacing (of course with short chapters, quick pacing is almost guaranteed.)What I didn't like about the book: Michael Bennett. This took me by surprise. After having read the previous books about Bennett, I had added him to my list of favorite detectives. After reading Tick Tock - I'm not so sure. He spent too much time obsessing about his love life in this book. It distracted from the story rather than adding to it. Bennett's character was not as well developed in this book as in the past installments. He seemed rather flat.If you are a diehard Patterson fan then you will probably enjoy this book. If you really like the character Michael Bennett, you might want to skip this one and wait to see if he gets back on track in the next book.
