About this audiobook

International #1 bestseller Jeffery Deaver delivers a sensational thriller in which a beautiful young country-pop singer is stalked by an obsessive fan who thinks her big hit song was written just for him, featuring Deaver's popular character California Bureau of Investigation agent Kathryn Dance.

Kayleigh Towne’s music career is just reaching new heights with her huge hit single “Your Shadow”—but increased fame is also bringing unwanted attention. An innocent exchange with one of her fans, signed with an “XO,” leads Kayleigh into the dangerous and terrifying realm of obsession.

Edwin Sharp thinks Kayleigh’s songs contain messages that speak directly to him. Despite her clear rejection and threats from lawyers and law enforcers, he remains convinced that “Your Shadow” was written just for him, and he announces he’s coming for Kayleigh. Then a potentially fatal accident occurs at the concert hall where Kayleigh is rehearsing for a triumphant hometown performance, and she is convinced that someone—maybe Edwin—was there watching her from the darkness.

Speeding along over just three short days, this nail-biting thriller is filled with terrifying twists that will hold readers in rapt suspense until the final shocking revelation.

An uneven entry from the usually reliable Deaver. The same patterns of twists and intentionally misleading statements and conversations that you expect are here, and put to good use, but one of the 'shockers' comes right out of left field and derails the story with a few chapters of politically anti-conservative indulgence and undermines the entire tale.

Beyond excellent! Deaver is the master of plot twists, Just when you think it's over, another twist comes along and makes you turn the pages faster. This book, while bringing to mind Taylor Swift as the main character, has a lot of information on music, the music industry, and even includes some songs written by Deaver.

    Fans will not be disappointed.

When Kathyrn Dance, a CBI (California Bureau of Investigation) Agent based in Monterey, visits Kayleigh Towne—a country singer living in Fresno—she discovers her friend has a seriously unstable stalker. Edwin Sharp will stop at nothing to make his delusional dreams come true regarding Kayleigh. As the suspenseful cat-and-mouse game turns deadly, Kathyrn uses her body language analysis skills to unravel the case. Although there were several plot twists, the story seemed to stall in several places. The famous Lincoln Rhyme makes a guest appearance; however, I felt this one was missing the hard edge I'm used to in Mr. Deaver's novels.

I'm not sure I like Kathryn Dance as much as Lincoln Rhyme, but it was still a really good story. There were enough twists that I didn't know who the murderer was until the very end.

About half way through this one I remembered I had read it once before. I still enjoyed reading it again though. I loved how it tricked you and you think all is well when it really is not yet safe.

Set in Fresno, California, XO is a suspenseful thriller about Kayleigh Towne, hometown girl turned country superstar, and stalker Edwin Sharp, an obsessive fan. When one of Kayleigh's best friends is killed in a gruesome onstage accident, the singer turns to Kathryn Dance. Kathryn is an agent with the California Bureau of Investigation and a dedicated “song-catcher” who travels to rural areas recording the local folk music. She's also an expert in kinesics which is the analysis of body language. Kathryn is a master interrogator but she is having trouble reading Sharp. Has Edwin gone too far or is he being set up?

There are multiple subplots that will keep the reader guessing throughout the entire novel, and everyone’s innocence is questioned. I thought it had a slow start but the more I read the better I liked it. This is the third Kathryn Dance novel but seems like more of a standalone novel so you can definitely read this out of order.

Country singer Kayleigh Towne shot to the top of the charts with her smash hit single, "Your Shadow." But sometimes fame comes at a price. An insane fan has made Kayleigh the target of his craze obsession. Soon her friends start to die in mysterious accidents that really aren't accidents at all. Now it's up to Special Agent Kathryn Dance, and her unique skills in body language analysis, to discover who the killer is, and stop him before he strikes again.

Jeffery Deaver at his best with a Kathryn Dance title. I like this character and her body language speciality. Cameo appearance by Lincoln Rhyme.
The songs and music add another dimension. Deaver is multi-talented.

It's been a long time since I've read a Jeffery Deaver but it was worth the wait. Once again, I didn't know "who done it" until the very end. The only thing I found puzzling was Katherine Dance's confusion as to whom she loves. Guess that's for another book.

Disappointment coming from Deaver. Would have been ok, probably, from someone else. I have high expectations for Deaver, though! Using lyrics as hints, fictionalizing a real-life entertainment event, the twist mostly given away in the jacket cover... :-(
