First she finds the body-a young woman used, murdered, and dumped in a canal. Not just a victim, but a friend. As Elena delves into her dead friend's secret life, she discovers ties not only to the Russian mob but also to a group of powerful and wealthy Palm Beach bad boys known for giving each other alibis to cover a multitude of sins. A group that includes a man Elena once knew very well-her former fiancé, Bennett Walker, a man she knows has already escaped justice at least once in his life.
Finding her friend's killer will put Elena at odds with her old life, with her new lover, and with herself. But she is determined to reveal the truth-a truth that will shock Palm Beach society to its core, and could very well get her killed.

Reviews for The Alibi Man

- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5This is a book that revolves around the Palm Beach elite and the lengths that they are prepared to go to protect their own. Some of the people they class as their own are a group of powerful and wealthy Palm Beach bad boys, who call themselves the Alibi Club, a name that is self explanatory. In any other society they would have been locked up a long time ago and the key thrown away, but this group have a knack of escaping the law. Well escaping the law is one thing, but escaping justice is another.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Elena Estes, a former cop, now works at a horse stable. She goes for a walk and discovers a groom, Irina that she works with dead in a canal. Elena investigates Irina's death and helps the police. Irina was Russian and the Russian mob appears to be involved. This was a page turner with an unexpected ending.
- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5In Alibi Man, a young woman who tends to horses working at an affluent estate is killed. Elena Estes finds the body. A former cop, she begins to do her own investigation of the murder. Meanwhile, Detective Landrey, Elena's love interest is also performing an investigation. The investigation leads to a group of ultra-wealthy, socially elite individuals who have a club, which will always give an alibi to one of their members. At the heart of this book is class warfare. The members of the upper crust in this novel believe they can do whatever they want without any repercussions. Elena and Landrey are there to see that this doesn't happen. The novel is solidly written with enough intrigue to sustain interest. There's nothing about it that really stands out, but it is an entertaining read.Carl Alves - author of Blood Street
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5She was a vision. She was a siren. She was a nightmare. She was dead. Now he needed her to disappear. And he knew just how to make it happen. The Palm Beach elite go to great lengths to protect their own—and their own no longer includes Elena Estes. Once upon a time a child of wealth and privilege, Elena turned her back on that life. Betrayed and disillusioned by those closest to her, she chose the life of an undercover cop, the hunt for justice her own personal passion. Then a tragic, haunting mistake ended her career. Now Elena exists on the fringes of her old life, training horses for a living. But a shocking event is about to draw her back into the painful vortex she’s fought so hard to leave behind.First she finds the body—a young woman used, murdered, and dumped in a canal. - Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5Quick read mystery about the amoral super rich. Nothing great, but good book to pass a slow half day with.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5In this mystery/thriller featuring the same main characters as Dark Horse, Hoag crafts a chilling, suspenseful tale that won't disappoint fans of the previous novel. Once again, I found myself shaking my head at the melodramatic descriptions of the characters' tortured feelings; some parts were just over the top. Nevertheless, I enjoyed this mystery just as much as the last one and I hope to continue reading more of Hoag.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Tough gal Private Investigator has to find out who murdered Irena at a party. She cracks the rich boys code. Hah.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Ex-narcotics officer Elena Estes has been slowly putting her life back together after the mistake in judgment that left her physically and mentally scarred, and a colleague dead. Now, a newly broken relationship has her racing wildly across the Florida landscape on a horse worth more than a college education. Irresponsible? Sure. And a day that started poorly doesn't get any better. Her headlong plunge leads her to a floating body - her lovely Russian co-worker Irina, strangled and left for the alligators.Elena can't help but be drawn in to the investigation, even though it's pulling her back to her past, the glittering, corrupt, polo season scene and her own broken family ties.A very good, suspenseful mystery. My pet peeve with horse-related fiction is often how unrealistic the horse-related detail often is. This one is actually pretty good, but stretches realism a bit, especially when it comes to horse care: everyone else's horse barns appear to have plenty of activity and grooms to do necessary chores, but at the barn where Elena is purportedly employed, the employees mentioned number two. With Irena dead and Elena occupied, that leaves the owner, Sean, who doesn't appear to do much with the horses besides ride them (and why should he - that's why he has grooms...). I kept wondering who was cleaning stalls, feeding & exercising all those horses....Aside from that minor annoyance, (and no resolution as to the Freak), it read well, and I enjoyed it. Dark Horse, prequel to the Alibi Man is on my bookshelf, and will be one of the next books off my TBR list.
- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5I like Tami Hoag. She writes a very good story. She is currently very involved in dressage riding, and it shows. She somewhat follows the caveat: write what you know. This book is a follow-up to her book Dark Horse, and includes several of the same characters. The thing is, I'm not sure there was enough that was interesting about these characters to yield a second book. Plus, she had to murder one of those characters to make a story. I still like Tami Hoag, but this is not one of my favorites.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Love Tami Hoag. This book took me to an area of life that I would never search out on my own. Rich, snotty, polo playing isn't every mans world. Throw in some murder and now we have a novel.
- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5Ex-cop discovers the body of a polo pony groomer by day and party girl at night. The wealthy Palm Beach set cover for one another making it difficult to investigate.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5First Sentence: She floated on the face of the pool like an exotic water lily.Elena Estes is a former homicide investigator now living and working at the stable yard of her best friend, Sean. Although she could cope with the unexpected bolting of the horse she was riding, she hadn’t expected having to deal with finding the dead and alligator mutilated body of Irina, Sean’s stable hand. Things go from bad to worse as the murder brings Elena back into the circle of the Palm Beach elite members of the Alibi Club, men who will protect each other no matter what. Among the members is Elena’s former fiancée Barrett Walker, who tried to use Elena as an alibi after he raped and murdered a girl, and Elena’s prosecutor father, who got Barrett off.Elena is a smart woman whom life has taught to be tough. But that doesn’t leave her without feelings. She is a character with whom one can identify and about whom one can care. It those feeling that really drew me into this book. I also liked that she didn’t let her anger overcome her desire to find out the true facts of Irina’s death. In addition to creating a great character, Hoag really understands sense of place, believable dialogue and knows how to create tension and suspense. She also knows how to provide a very satisfying, albeit sad, twist at the end. Ms. Hoag delivers another very good book.
