It was hard to put it down. I'll give it that much. But it was far from one of my favorite James Patterson books. Actually it was pretty obvious Patterson did not write this book himself. The twist got me, but overall it had a very amateurish feel to it. I wanted a quick, easy read and it did fulfill my wish.

A bit trashy, but an enjoyable read nonetheless. The skipping from person to person takes a little getting used too however this cutting from person to person lets the story move at quite a quick pace.

It took me some time to get in to the story but when I did. I could not stop reading. I did not see that ending coming at all. I like this thrilling novel.

OMG What a surprise! I never saw it coming! Love the style Patterson & de Jonge had each character narrated their part in the book.

Kept my interest, but the Ending was a bit weak. I've been a fan of James Patterson for some time. I guess my favorite novels by Mr. Patterson give or take a few others are "Along Came a Spider" and "Kiss the Girls". Now, "Beach Road" was in my opinion not up to par for Mr. Patterson & co. I would say that this novel was somewhere in the middle if I was to find a slot to fit this novel in. The only problem I had with the story was the ending. James or Peter, really need to talk to each other because the ending was loose and for me didn't really make sense. Other than the ending the story moved along at the beginning, at a excellent pace, and it kept interest although there were some awkward dalogue here and there. After all that I would still recommend Beach Road.

By page 40, I had to make myself continue to read this. The author's use of changing from one perspective to another made it impossible to care about any character, and quite frankly, I didn't. I've read a lot of mystery/thriller novels in the past - not so many lately - but this was just really difficult to stay with. I wasn't shocked at the "surprise" ending - it just all felt like a ridiculous hoax that I never wanted to participate in, and was sorry I did. My first Patterson novel - quite possibly my last.

This fast-paced thriller is worthy of the name James Patterson. Although, it does seem a little over the top, what with cameos by the likes of Steven Spielberg, Julia Roberts, George Clooney and Bill Clinton. The ending is as shocking as the cover blurbs indicate, but I suspect the twist would not hold up very well upon a second reading. However, I don't really have the inclination to read it again, which is maybe what the author planned.

I enjoyed this for the most part, perhaps because I've only read a couple of Pattersons in the past, and those were quite some time ago, so this was somewhat refreshing for me at least. The short chapter, alternating first person narratives worked just fine for me, making this an absorbing, quick read. The plot, that of a high school upcoming NBA star accused of a triple homicide, assumedly innocent, & defended by a ex-basketball star, was gripping enough. Throw in a little drug involvement, and you've got yourself a decent thriller. However, the plot twist at the end, though surprising, just seemed a little too unbelievable & farfetched to me. And that was my main problem with this book. I like surprise endings. But this one reached a little too far.

James Patterson has teamed up with Peter De Jonge to write this crime novel 'Beach Road' and it was a good quick read. I used to really enjoy books by James Patterson, but over the years his writing has evolved into mass production on a grand scale, churning out books almost every month with different co-authors. It's impossible to keep up, and I believe it dilutes the quality of the author's work. But I'm sure many would disagree, and of course he's enormously successful. This particular book has been on my TBR (to be read) pile for a long time, and it was a relatively interesting story with a twist at the end definitely worthy of a mention. I definitely didn't see it coming, and I'm of the opinion that it was the work of Peter De Jonge, but of course we'll never know. This book is essentially about a man arrested for a triple homicide at a basketball court located at a mansion in East Hampton. The main character Tom is convinced the defendant Dante is innocent and agrees to represent the young man in the trial of the century. The story is narrated by different characters and is constantly switching which takes time to get used to. The narrator's name appears at the top of each chapter though, so it's easy to keep up.I enjoyed the twist at the end and I love that in a book. This is an easy and non-complex crime novel, recommended for any James Patterson fans out there. Just don't expect too much.

There's only a vague hint of Patterson's talent contained in this courtroom thriller. Each character's view is presented in the first person which is confusing considering Patterson's usual style. The story itself follows a murder and the lawyers representing the framed defendant. There's never enough emotional pull towards any of the characters and Patterson's trademark short chapters fail to add any tension or real suspense. It feels if somoene else is writing using his narrative style and construction - and not very well. Beach Road has an ace up its sleeve near the end, however it's not enough to salvage this below par novel.

With his other writing partners I don't see what they bring to the table, but with de Jonge, it's not hard to miss both the commonness and the crassness that he contributes. It definitely brings an aura of ugliness to an already ugly story. You can't help but feel betrayed right along with the other victims in this book, especially as your wondering who is BH, feeling a hard slap to the face when it's revealed.

Absolutely love James Pattersons novels. Chapters are short but packed full of excitement and action. I have read many of his novels and am aware how he always adds a twist to the end and I have more often than not realised the twist before i have finished the novel, but this one I didnt get.. The twist in this one was brilliant and one i was not expecting.. This is definately one of Patterson better novels

I found the narrative style of this book a little confusing as between chapters it switches viewpoints from one character to another, even though the chapter heading tells you. The plot held my attention though up until the end, when I found it went in such an unexpected direction as to be frankly unbelievable. Disappointing.

I like how Beach Road jumped back and forth between the different points of view. It helped keep my interest. This is one of the good non Alex Cross novels.

I couldn't put this book down! It was a quick read, told in the voice of the various main characters. What I like most about Patterson's writing in this story is that he makes the African American characters believable. I can't stand when writers have the black characters, especially young men of the hip hop generation, sound so ghetto it's unreal. The plot develops quickly, and is about a triple murder committed in the exclusive Hamptons. A young black man is framed and he gets an unlikely lawyer to defend him. The intense anger of the 'townies' is captured, a peek into the slick underworld of ritzy drugs is revealed, and a an old relationship is rekindled. When the murderer is revealed, it is a definite shock which is both satisfying in that I would have never guessed the person in a million years...but also, kind of unbelievable because the killer has been so careful why would he make such a stupid mistake now? Despite that minor discrepancy, assuming you chalk up the killer's stupidity to arrogance or just plain being human, this book is an AWESOME read.

Again Patterson did a great job. I enjoy his writing and find his chapters very short. I did not suspect Tom, Dante's , lawyer, to be the bad guy. When he almost murdered his own nephew, I began to wonder about Tom. I was totally shocked that Tom was the real killer. How could he take on Dante's case and get him off. Did Tom have any sort of a conscience? The story is written from the different viewpoints of the 7 characters.

I loved this book because the ending was such a shocker. I also really liked the fact that through the novel, each chapter was told by a different character. Only sometimes this wasn't good because I got confused on who the characters were and what was happening with them.

Okay, what is up with the ending of this book?! Despite the relatively poor grammer and sentence structure, this book was a fun read until the ending, which I thought sucked! Perhaps I'm just partial nice "Hollywood" endings. hehe

Murder mystery set in the resort town of East Hampton on Long Island.Four teenagers are murdered and a young black teenager, Dante Halleyville, a top NBA propspect is indicted and put on trial for the murders; he really is innocent. He is defended by Tom Dunleavy and Kate Costello, two lawyers who were once lovers. The format of the book plays a nice part in unfolding the story. Each chapter is very short--from 2-4 pages long--and is narrated by one of the characters. The murderer, a drug dealer nicknamed Loco, provides his own commentary. The story is very well told, fast-paced, with a great twist at the end. An excellent read--good entertainment.

My first James Patterson novel. It was a quick and interesting read. The chapters were short so that made it easy to finish quickly. Each chapter was written in the first person and there were at least half a dozen or more narrators. It is the story of a lawyer who defended an eighteen-year-old black basketball player in a murder trial.

This book was really easy to read and I pretty much breezed right through it surprisingly - probably because I wanted to find out who was the killer. It's a really good read and the ending is awesome. No wonder it got great reviews. Great book.
