About this audiobook

Myron Bolitar hasn’t heard from Terese Collins since their torrid affair ended ten years ago, so her desperate phone call from Paris catches him completely off guard. In a shattering admission, Terese reveals the tragic story behind her disappearance—her struggles to get pregnant, the greatest moment of her life when her baby was born…and the fatal accident that robbed her of it all: her marriage, her happiness, and her beloved only daughter.

Now a suspect in the murder of her ex-husband in Paris, Terese has nowhere else to turn for help. Myron heeds the call. But then a startling piece of evidence turns the entire case upside down, laying bare Terese’s long-buried family secrets…and the very real possibility that her daughter may still be alive.

In grave danger from unknown assailants in a country where nothing is as it seems, Myron and Terese race to stay a step ahead of Homeland Security, Interpol, and Mossad. Soon they are working at breakneck pace not only to learn what really happened to Terese’s long-lost little girl—but to uncover a sinister plot with shocking global implications.

“[A] compulsive page-turner.… The ‘this could be me’ factor lends poignancy to the thrills and chills.” —Publishers Weekly (starred review)

“[Coben’s] genius is to make the seemingly mundane terrifying.” —Booklist (starred review)

I've read several of his books but how did I miss this terrific series?? I'll go back to the beginning and catch up over time. Fast paced action, page after page. Myron Bolitar and his crew are a very creative group of characters so no wonder this is the 9th book in the series!!Interesting that none of the covers showing is the one on the book that I am holding.

The pacing was fast and furious resulting in a hard-to-put-down read. Coben definitely makes you laugh out loud with Myron and Win's antics and as usual he keeps you wondering how it will end. I now looking forward to reading the next book in the Bolitar series and highly recommend Coben's books to those who love stories that are fast-paced with unexpected twists.

I like Harlen Coben, and I've missed Myron Bolitar. Sure he and Win are an odd and unrealistic 'super hero duo,' but the books are just campy enough to enjoy. I think I liked this one a bit less for its reliance on the 'latest' gimmick - terrorism and torture. Too many series novels that have been about diverse and non-topical subjects - have veered into the popular culture by glomming on to torture, terrorism, and the West's fear of so-called Middle Eastern Muslim Fundamentalist terror. It's not that the book itself is bad - it just doesn't incorporate black sites and terrorists well. Although, for other reasons, this series may be played out. Every series has an end - and far too often authors write past that natural ending.

Harlan Coben’s Long Lost by Annette Dunlea (Book Review)Long Lost is a crime thriller by Harlan Coben. The hardback is published by Orion and its ISBN is 0752885227. Myron Bolitar after ten years is summoned to Paris by his ex lover Terese Collins. She is in trouble and trusts only him to help her. Her secret past is revealed including a past marriage and a dead daughter. Terese receives a call from her ex husband and she goes to his aid in Paris. In Paris she finds him dead and stands accused of his murder. There is only one other blood type at the scene. It is her dead daughter’s blood. The pair investigates the murder and go on the run chased by Interpol, Homeland Security and Mossad. All is not as it seems. This is a well written fast paced crime thriller which I highly recommend.Reviewed by Annette Dunlea author of Always and Forever and The Honey Trap

After listening to this book I really miss Jonathan Mayrose I'm not sure why he was replaced as the reader for the Bolitar, series but I miss him because this new reader did a horrible impersonation of his partner Esperanza. I hope he gets better or replaced.

Myron, the wise-cracking agent and former almost-basketball-great, is off to Paris at the behest of an erstwhile love. I must say this novel has something for everyone: Huntington's, terrorists, Paris, les flics, the CIA, MI6, a shootout, bisexuals, sports references, waterboarding, black sites, parents, abortion, hysterectomies, adoption, multiple girlfriends and I think there was an implausible plot in there somewhere. I have probably forgotten some others, but you get the idea. What saves the book is the unusual characters.

I think Harlan Coben is a very talented author and I absolutely love his Myron Bolitar series. The book was well-written and I loved the interactions between the characters. However, the plot of Long Lost didn't work for me. I didn't understand the terrorist plot, which was convoluted and not very plausible, IMO. I don't know why Coben veered away from the sports aspect, but I missed that and I hope he brings it back next time. This wasn't a bad novel by any means, just not what I come to expect from this series. 3.5 stars

Probably my least favorite Myron and Win tale. Just too far fetched for me.

Myron Bolitar has found himself in a settled and grounded relationship, except well, the woman he loves, Ali has just dumped him. And suddenly, a call from a very beautiful woman from the past spurs him to catch a flight to Paris. Myron finds himself being followed in another country as he tries to sort out what has happened to Terese's ex-husband, who has been murdered and WHY?

Adding to the mystery, it seems as if Terese's long lost deceased daughter may not be deceased at all...or is she?

A story of murder, mystery, adoption, terrorists...what have Myron and Win gotten themselves into?

This is my first Harlan Coben book and I'm not sure what to think. Well, I know what to think, how to think and thinking is something I like to do to keep me from watching reality TV. My opinion of this book, however, is rather undecided.

Myron seems like an interesting enough character, the character of Win is a scene stealer, and the mystery is interesting enough. About half-way through the book, the pace picks up and things change around a bit. Even so, I'm still left unsure as to whether I enjoyed the book or not.

I think this may be that this book is number nine in the series and is written with Myron fans in mind, rather than fresh readers. As such, the Myron character feels a little flat and sappy. It might also be that the plot twist is a little improbable and pointless - as another reviewer pointed out, using an expensive procedure rather than just kidnapping is a bit silly.

Might have to try one of the earlier Myron Bolitar novels to see if I enjoy Harlan's work.

I didn't like the previous installment of this series (Promise Me) so I approached this book with reluctance -- and finished it in a day. Great page-turner. I'm back on board.

I really enjoyed listening to this book. It includes all the characters we enjoy -- emphasizes Win's particular talents of kicking the shit out of the bad guys to keep Myron alive. One girlfriend goes away and another, previous one, takes center stage. The plot evolves in to a terrorist thing with genetic overtones--cool! Even though, it would have terminated the plot, I thought Myron's decision to follow the terrorists, vice go back to work and earn a buck as Esperanza suggests, was a little funky. Great dialogue, again. Eh? Where's #10?

I love these books! They are like getting on a crazy roller coaster ride, then getting back in line as soon as it's over. The characters are not overly developed and none of these books will probably make you tear up, but you will enjoy yourself immensely and wish you had a friend just like Win! These books would make a GREAT series of movies, much like the Jesse Stone made-for-TV movies.

Terese Collins was very secretive. She wanted Myron to come to Paris where she was staying, but she didn’t want to tell him why. Myron had an affair of convenience with Terese nearly ten years before. Now he’s committed to Ali. But, that’s about to change. Ali decides to end it with Myron. She’s going to go back to her home town. So the option of going to reacquaint himself with Terese is wide open. But, Terese has stumbled upon something extremely dangerous and she pulls Myron into it. A secret she had been holding back from Myron now comes to the surface. She was responsible for an accident ten years earlier that ended her seven year old daughter’s life. Terese had been injured and was in a coma for a couple of weeks after the accident. Before he was killed, her ex-husband led her to question the accident. Could it be possible that her daughter was still alive? This ninth Myron Bolitar novel is very fast paced and includes many wonderful twists and turns for the reader. I may have mentioned in previous reviews of Harlan Coben books that he is my favorite author. However, I honestly don’t feel that this was one of his better novels. I’m not sure the international aspect worked in a Myron Bolitar novel and Myron seems to have been given super human strength. Also Win’s ramblings of Mee, his personal flight attendant, appeared more like comments you’d expect to hear from high school jocks. I like how all of the characters we’ve come to love are still accounted for. Myron’s parents are aging and he continues to worry about them – an emotion most of us are very familiar with. There is only one novel left in the series, Live Wire. I have to say I’m not looking forward to the end. But at this time, I don’t foresee another Myron Bolitar novel. A new series develops after Live Wire which is that of Myron’s high school nephew, Mickey Bolitar. That series is geared for young adults. I rated Long Lost at 3.5 out of 5.

I've been trying to dip into a few different authors recently and for a while I'd been thinking about reading something by Harlan Coben, so this is the first one of his books that I've read. I chose this book at random from all of his work on offer, and I don't know if the love interest in the story had appeared in a previous novel, but right from the first time she's mentioned I got the deep impression that this was a genuine old flame catching up. It felt as if they'd met before, and that gave the story a foothold in reality.

From there on the story has elements where one needs to suspend disbelief, accept that it's a thriller, and that the hero and his best friend are only a spit short of being super heros, even though they bleed and are affected by the horrors they encounter.

The plot reached a certain point where the mystery of what is going on was easily guessed at, but the fast pace kept me reading on, so that I could check I was correct. There are sprinkles of humour, some fanastic descriptions of Paris, but on occasion the author had me confused about where the hero was in relation to simple things like a road or building. On the other hand there's a superbly crafted shoot out, in which I knew precisely where each character was positioned. That scene is pithily written and had me right in the middle of the action.

It's a quick read, with some interesting characters, and well worth picking up if you're on a long journey and looking for some quick fix entertainment.

This is a Myron Bolitar novel He gets a call from an old past love she is in Paris. Myron goes and sees her. People turn up dead The story the moves to London a few twists and turns then the story goes back to the States. There is an evil islamic plot they have got alot of white youths brainwashed and ready to carry out bombing. To be honest this book was a bit silly and some of the characters were so unbelievable.I usually like Myron Bolitar storys but this was daft.

Myron Bolitar gets a cryptic call from Terese, an ex-lover, asking him to come to Paris on the same day that his girlfriend breaks up with him. He heads out of the country and finds a mystery. He faces Interpol and Homeland Security and fights with the Mossad as he tries to find out if Terese's long lost daughter is still alive.Better than Gone for Good but not great.

Apparently, I'm all alone on this one. It's been on the Best Seller lists for multiple weeks, and the other reviewers all LOVED this book. For me, it was just okay. The last ten pages probably kept it from being average. I preferred the other book of his I read previously "Hold Tight."

Reading a Harlan Coben novel is a bit like having another ride on your favourite roller coaster. It’s going to be fast moving with plenty of twists and turns and might make you laugh hysterically but essentially it will be the same as the last time you rode it. So here is this novel, the most recent of his that I have read, and here again is the missing female character, the is she/isn’t she dead scenario, and all the witty asides. And of course the omnipotent friend without whom Myron Bolitar would be in so much trouble he would barely get past his office door. I reckon even I could crack international crime if I had him in my corner.I guess this book does what its fans expect – it delivers a fast moving, very exciting storyline and always remembers to keep personality to the forefront. There are little catch-ups too, where one character will bring another up to date with events, a subtle way of reminding the reader where we are with the plot, in amongst all the jokes. The storyline visits France and Britain, and whilst I was interested to know how this would impact on the novel, I never really felt it had left the USA. The cops for example spoke perfect American English. But I’m probably being churlish. Not wanting to give too much away, but there is a nod towards current events, or at least modern preoccupations, in the novel’s conclusion. I’m not sure whether the whole scenario was clever and thought provoking or hysterical and unhelpful. I’m tending towards the second, though it will be interesting to find out what other readers made of it.

I love the Myron Bolitar series (book 9). I haven't read one in a long time but this one did not disappoint; always humorous. The story of an ex-lover who is looking for her ex-husband, finds that she has another child. With the help of Myron and crew, and a French detective, they not only find this child takes a little chunk out of a terrorist group.

I have long been a big fan of Harlan Coben, with both his stand-alone novels and his Myron Bolitar series. While still an enjoyable read, Long Lost is far from Coben's best work. Some things were lacking for me, such as the usual banter between Myron and his best friend Win. The plot was a little over the top and at times stretched my ability to believe. In an attempt to create mystery and suspense, the story often lingered in a foggy mist that was more irritating than interesting. That being said, this is a quick, entertaining read that will appeal to many Harlan Coben fans. If you have yet to read a book from the Myron Bolitar series, I would not recommend starting with this one.

This is a very nice work. It does not have to be believable, it has some eerie quality that fascinates you and brings you in the story. The book starts with a very personal affair: an old mistress of the hero, Bolitar, calls for help and it gradually expands into a terrorist - anti-terrorist battle. Well constructed and nice to read. Great description of the Rive Gauche in Paris. I always like Coben's sensitivity: the feelings of his characters come through.

Myron Bolitar, a former NBA player, receives a phone call form a good friend in Paris, and he rushes over to visit her. However, he arrives and discovers that she is the primary suspect in the murder of her ex-husband. The plot unfolds as Myron and his sidekick Win assist their friend and try to find the real murderer. Harlan Coben's Long Lost is a thrilling ride, although it does take a bit to get hooked.Having never read any of Coben's work, I was a little unsure of the book at first, but grew to love it. However, at some points the writing is weak and rudimentary, almost Dan Brown-ish; other times, it shines.
