About this audiobook

Eden Black is the next exciting character in the alien huntress series that started with the Naughty Girl of Summer, Mia Snow, in Awaken Me Darkly.

Eden Black walks among humans, protecting them from the murderous evil of other-worlders who abduct and enslave. And though she appears to be human herself, Eden is an alien, a Raka, distinguished by her golden hair and skin, and gifted with the ominous ability to kill without remorse—and with total accuracy. That is, until the fateful night she has one shot to eliminate her target, a human slaver—and misses.

"Failure" is not in Eden's vocabulary. Neither is "partner," but that's what she is forcibly assigned after recovering from her disastrous mission. A sexy, steely-nerved human agent, Lucius Adaire enjoys nothing more than sparking the fury—and rousing the desire—of the fiery female assassin too proud to admit defeat. Locked in an assignment they cannot afford to lose, Lucius and Eden find themselves bound in two high-stakes, heart-pounding games: the sensual web of kill or be killed, and the erotic dance of seduction.

Eden Black, an alien assassin renowned for never missing a target, discovers to her chagrin that there is always a first time. Forced to work with a human partner, Lucius Adaire, Eden is determined to put a stop to the trafficking ring selling humans as slaves to otherworlders. However, as Eden and Lucius go undercover and their attraction skyrockets, their mission takes a turn for the worse and they will have to utilize all of their skills and abilities to succeed before it is too late…

Series note: Although this is book #2 in the Alien Huntress series, it can be read as a standalone as the plot and characters are unconnected to the first book.

Eden and Lucius are an engaging couple with explosive chemistry. Nevertheless, the book suffers from the 1st person POV as readers are inundated with Eden’s insecurities, which get old after a while, and Lucius’s thoughts and emotions are missing. Moreover, he comes across as more of a beta hero that I would like.

The world that Showalter has created is very compelling with the various races and their reasons for being on Earth. The human trafficking plot is a unique variant of a familiar theme and there are some interesting twists and turns, as well as a surprise revelation at the end. The secondary characters are also intriguing, especially Devyn who is obviously a bad boy in need of redemption (one of my favorite hero types) and I eagerly await learning more about him when his book comes along.

In sum, although Enslave Me Sweetly did not make as much of an impact as book #1, the story is action packed and entertaining, and the romance is sweet and spicy. The audiobook is superbly read by Justine Eyre and I already have book #3 lined up.

Eden Black is a Rakan, one of the last of her kind, working as an assassin for her adopted father's private security company. They are trying to shut down a ring of slave traders, and Eden has to act as bait. She doesn't want a partner in this endeavor, but her father insists Lucius help her out. The two chase the bad guys and fall in love. Eden is badass and Lucius is luscious. The plotting is suspenseful and secondary characters are well-drawn. This is not a hastily thrown together submission to a hot drama. The series appears to intend to explore several other types of aliens and otherworldly creatures as it progresses, and Showalter does it in a very intriguing way. I will definitely continue reading her books.

Listened for Review (Simon & Schuster)Overall Rating: 4.25Story Rating: 4.00Character Rating: 4.50Audio Rating: 4.00 (not part of the overall rating)First Thought When Finished: Enslave Me Sweetly was a great book that I didn't realize was a 2nd in series. I never felt lost so feel free to jump in here (though I am going to get book 1).Story Thoughts: Alright, so I already admitted that I have not read book 1 but I have read A Long Kiss Goodnight (which has some of the same aspects in it). That being said, I really enjoyed getting introduced into the world where the bad guys aren't necessarily who you think they are and the good guys are not always cut and dry. I was floored by the imagination that was put into creating the different species and can't wait to learn more. The action was fun and the mystery was pretty good too. I enjoyed this far more than I expected.Character Thoughts: Eden was bad ass! I don't know a better way to describe her than that. She was tough as nails and had a very Lara Croft type of way about her (independent, stubborn, doesn't work well with others). Lucius was perfect for her. I can't imagine anyone else being stubborn enough to out Eden, Eden! My other favorite character (which I searched and doesn't appear to have his own book *pouty face*) was Devyn! Someone please tell me he reappears because I thought he was brilliant!Audio Thoughts Narrated By Justine Eyre / Length: 8 hrs and 34 mins Justine is one of my favorite narrators (especially when accents are involved). She has a lilt to her tone that just makes you settle into the story. Although her voicing of Lucius took a bit for me to get used to, it was never distracting. Overall, I would recommend this book on audio!Final Thoughts: Why it took me forever to read this series is a mystery to me but I am glad I finally gave it a whirl!

This series is unique, entertaining, and makes for some quick reading. And really, what's not to like?Alien assassin? Check.Female lead who knows how to kick some butt? Check.Steamy romance? Check. These books contain pretty much all I ask for in a paranormal romance. The plot was suspenseful and interesting. The story moves at a perfect pace and definitely causes the "just one more chapter" syndrome. I was sad that it Enslave Me Sweetly doesn't have a strong connection to the Awaken Me Darkly story line, but I quickly got over it once I got caught up in this story line. One thing that could have made this book a lot better is more relationship development between Eden and Lucius. Even though it's a common theme in romance, I'm still not a fan of the "instant love" thing. Eden looks at Lucius and, even though she "hates" him, immediately wants to sleep with him. For me, her emotions and connection with him were too strong too soon. Throughout the novel, I was rolling my eyes at their banter and at Eden's internal dialogue about how hot he is. I would have liked to see a bit more character development before she became so attracted.I did like that we got to see more of Michael's character. (He's Eden's boss and adoptive father, for those unfamiliar with the series.) The revelation of his past was predictable, but I did like how Eden reacted to it. I'm definitely looking forward to the next books in the series.

I really wish goodreads had a half star rating system. I'd give this book 3 1/2 stars. I absolutely love Gena Showalter. I have found myself engrossed in five different series by her and that is rare. The Alien Huntress series takes place in a futuristic world where aliens live and are somewhat accepted. The A.I.R. is a division of the government set up to remove rogue aliens. Though mentioned, the characters in this book were not part of the A.I.R. but kinda a black-ops division. I don't normally read sci-fi but because I enjoy Gena's work so much I decided to give this series a try. I thoroughly enjoyed "Awaken My Darkly" the first book in the series primarily because I loved the main character, Mia Snow. I found myself disappointed that "Enslave Me Sweetly" didn't have Mia in it at all and through it took place in the same world, the characters from EMS weren't mentioned. I felt this book was kinda filler until I started reading the third book "Savor My Slowly" and the characters from EMS were involved and needed.Though I liked Eden and Lucius, the main characters in this book, the best part was a secondary character named Devyn who happens to be the Targon king and considers himself the gods best gift to women. Even though he has an ego the size of Texas and can be a complete ass, I loved him. I am pleased to know that book 4, "Seduce the Darkness" is about him. Can't wait to get to it.As I said before, I don't normally read sci-fi. I love sci-fi movies and TV programs but have always had a problem reading the books. I prefer fantasy, urban fantasy, paranormal romance and horror. That being said, I still enjoyed this book; 3 stars just doesn't do it justice but it certainly doesn't deserve a 4 star rating either. If you enjoyed the first book and felt the same way about this one, I suggest you continue on with the series; the third book in the series is better.

This is the second book in the Alien Huntress series. It doesn't really use any characters from the first book; although it is in the same setting. You wouldn't have to read the first book to know what is going on, but the first book does provide some background on the world in general. I actually liked this book a bit better than the first one.Eden is a Raka, basically a beautiful golden alien. Unlike Mia Snow (who was part of AIR); Eden Black is a Shadow, trained to assassinate Otherworlders who are up to no good. Unfortunately her first field mission to assassinate an Otherworlder who has been selling humans as slaves, goes horribly wrong. She is assigned a partner, Lucius, to help ensure that the second time around the mission goes as planned. This time though Eden isn't going in with guns blazing though; she is posing as bait. Will things go as planned or will Eden end up sold as a slave to the wrong person? Can her and Lucius keep their minds on the job and overcome their hatred (and attraction) long enough to get things done?Eden was a fascinating character; much more interesting than Mia was and much more well-rounded. She's an assassin from a peace-loving race; she is an Otherworlder who hunts down other Otherworlders. She is strong but not annoying or bitchy like Mia was. Overall she made a great character. Lucius was a good counterpart to Eden. I liked that their relationship actually had some basis to build on; respect for each other, etc.The story was fast-paced with great action scenes and a few red-hot love scenes. This book should please the romance crowd more than the first book; I though the love scenes were pretty well balanced with a good plot and lots of action. The story was wrapped up well at the end; no huge plot points left hanging. This was a quick read too; a good summer read. There were a couple minor things that irritated me a little; one was Eden's instant attraction to Lucius. Overall this was a bit overdone and not really all that believable. Also though this book had more sex scenes; they were all very similar and it would have been nice to have some creativity.Overall I enjoyed this book and look forward to the next novel in the Alien Huntress series.
