About this audiobook

London, 1905

Sabrina Tremaine is recently widowed and unfortunately penniless, which leaves her no choice but to marry her odious brother-in-law. She discovers almost too late that her young daughter is in danger from his lecherous ways. Knowing she has to protect her child at all costs, Sabrina escapes in the dead of the night to start a new life. Sabrina’s concerns are multiplied when little eight-year-old Alice insists that she is communicating with her dead father. Through the manipulations of some interfering ghosts and the mysterious Madame Lou, Sabrina finds a Lady Help position in the home of Ford Northcliffe, a scientist searching for a cure to the deadly influenza virus that took his own sister’s life at a cruelly young age. Distracted with his work, he makes a binding deathbed promise to his mother to marry a woman he barely knows and certainly doesn’t love. With the help of the mystical matchmaker, the two have fallen into the trap of a forbidden passion and a consuming love that neither can deny. But there are insurmountable obstacles in the way of their happiness, and it will be up to the spirits of the dead to guide them to their destiny.

This was a surprise to me, it was not a typical regency romance, with the added element of ghosts and fortune tellers. However I think the love story still went a little to fast, and how the two main characters were so instantly attracted to each other.

I loved the daughter character, she added some of the more precious moments in the book. I also liked Madam Lou, and while I do not believe in fortune tellers myself, I think I would have to think twice if I went to her.
