About this audiobook

A wild summer fling with three sexy cowboys just got serious for this city girl when one of them wants to tie her down for good.

Abandoned on the road by her ex, good girl Channing Kinkaid fears her summer plans to cut loose on the rodeo circuit are over…until bad boy bull rider Colby McKay steps in, promising that he—and his traveling partners—will teach her every dirty way to shed her inhibitions.
Although Channing has secretly longed to be the sole focus of more than one man’s passion, all is not as it seems with the sexy trio. Colby’s bossy style of sweet-talking tests her resolve to keep things casual, because falling for a man who risks life and limb every day can only lead to heartbreak.
From the moment Colby sets his lust-filled eyes on the sweet temptress, he knows she’s the good kind of trouble. Behind closed doors Channing is the perfect mix of obedience and curiosity. And he doesn’t mind sharing her…at first.
But everything changes as the pair grows closer and Colby decides he wants Channing all to himself.
Can Colby convince the headstrong Channing the road to true love doesn’t have to be as elusive as that championship belt buckle?

The narration is pretty good. I do find it helpful to speed it up just a little bit. The ending feels slightly abrupt and I hope to learn more about these characters in other books.

This review first appeared on A Weebish Book Blog.At the end of my freshman year of high school I was diagnosed with MS. After a week-long stay in ATL’s premier children’s hospital, I was gifted my first e-reader, a 2nd generation Kindle. I quickly found a love for the incredibly inappropriate erotic romance of Lorelei James. I was obsessed with her Rough Riders series and her kinky cowboys.I recently decided it high time I got the hell out of UF for a while finish the series and purchased a copy of LONG HARD RIDE, the first Rough Riders book. This series was my first introduction to menage and I was so excited to reintroduce myself to the world of smokin’ hot cowboy lovin’. Imagine my absolute disappointment when I realized how much I hated it. I was so blown away! And completely crushed.WHY LONG HARD RIDE WAS A LONG HARD LET DOWNChanning KincaidIvy League princess turned buckle bunny, Channing fleas her life as east coast socialite when she’s finally fed up living life as her parents’ puppet. She fleas to the rodeo for adventure and fun and soon takes up an affair with an Australian cowboy. When that relationship crashes and burns, she’s offered the chance to continue her journey so long as she agrees to be Colby, Trevor, and Edgard’s personal buckle bunny. Now this rebellious blue blood princess is supposed to an intelligent, independent woman. She’s even a teacher. Of children. And with very little thought or worry about safety she agrees to follow any order these cowboys dream up. Said cowboys that have already insinuated they wanted to tie her up and have her at their mercy. Sure these cowboys are sexy, naughty, and delicious as hell… but they’re also strangers.Did I mention SHE’S A TEACHER OF CHILDREN? Someone who’s supposed to instruct little kids on the dangers of strangers. I mean, seriously, how has she survived so long on her own?Her character also waffles between clueless naiveté and experienced seductress, which was both confusing and unconvincing. The dramaLONG HARD RIDE was a very melodramatic erotic romance. The drama between Channing and Colby, the jealousy from both Edgard and Colby, the constant woe-is-me routine and constant waffling from Channin—it was all hard for me to swallow. The plotThe plot itself wasn’t very entertaining either. The sex was hot and exciting, but the rest of the book was kind of meh. I was constantly having to remind myself to stop getting distracted and finish the damn book. So, yeah. LONG HARD RIDE did not work for me at all. What little enjoyment the novel brought me was thanks to yummy sex, entertaining secondary characters, and mysterious relationship between Trevor and Edgard. Will I continue to read the Rough Riders? Probably. I want to re-read Cash and Gemma’s story and I want to know if it was just this book that sucked or if my tastes have changed and the Rough Riders are just not my cuppa.

Erotic romance about an east-coast girl who hooks up with a trio of cowboys on the rodeo circuit and falls in love with one of them. Entertaining, and with a neat sense of what the subculture of the rodeo circuit is about. Falls apart a little bit in the end when things get all Real Emoshuns, but fun and a one-sitting read for me. There's a bazillion of these in the series, apparently, but I don't know that I care to find them all. Am, however, seeking out the one that deals with a couple of characters in this one (not the MCs; they have an HEA) whose story was left kind of heart-breaky.

Yee Haw- cowboy porn done right. I am not an erotica fan usually. This book was sexy fun without being 'in your face crude' The characters had personalities that were believable and there was even a plot. It was an enjoyable walk on the rodeo side.

I read this story just over three years ago. I picked up three new authors about the same time. They all had series out that had a number of books out for each series. The authors’ stories kept me busy for a long time. I didn't write reviews for some of the books and I wanted to re-read those stories and write reviews in the hopes that it might help the authors. I don’t pick up many new authors because I have a to-be-read pile that I will never get through as it is. Most the authors that I love write three or four books a year and I have gotten behind again. One of the things that drew me into reading all the Rough Rider series is that Ms. James obviously lives the life of a rancher or rancher’s wife. Having lived on a ranch in the wilds of Montana I have experience with what that life entails. Ms. James brought all that back in all that blazing hot days and bitter cold nights. The endless nights during calving season. She makes to feel all those times that you have to be out in below freezing temperatures laying down hay so the cattle can eat and breaking up ice on water troughs so they have water to drink. Saying all that Lorelei James had me hooked with the first book and I didn't look back until I had read the last one.The first of the McKays to get a story is Colby. Colby is the second oldest of the Carson and Carolyn brood. Colby is in his last year of being a circuit rodeo cowboy. This story takes place over a week of rodeos before Frontier Days in Cheyenne, Wyoming. It is interesting to read about how these cowboys compete to get to Nationals. It is a brutal schedule with them often competing with injury just so they can earn enough points to qualify for a spot at the National Rodeo Finals. Colby has loved this life but he misses the McKay Ranch. Colby is a dominant male in all his glory. He has done his fair share of sowing his wild oats all along the Mountain and Prairie Rodeo circuit. I think that he is more than a little surprised when he meets Channing. Why is he so surprised you ask? Because I don’t think he had any idea of settling down and making a life with someone. This relationship is quick and hot.Channing Kinkaid has always felt out of place with her parents in Boston. Her parents are rich and they have had Channing’s future planned out to the last detail. Channing, however, doesn't want that life. I found it interesting that a big city girl would run off and take up with rodeo cowboys. There are a lot of conveniences on the run. The motels are barely acceptable and the food is lousy. The days are spent in the sun and dust waiting for the events that the cowboy is competing in to come around. There are few luxuries and even less privacy. Channing does seem to take to life on the road. She is enthusiastic about all that she sees and she is friendly enough to make some friends. She is also not afraid to get her hands dirty. In many ways this is Channing's coming of age story. She finally finds a life and a mate that can make her happy. There are lots of characters in this book that show up with stories of their own in future stories. All the characters are engaging and likable. The settings are believable and often very entertaining. Ms. James also writes some steamy hot and wonderfully arousing love scenes. She also tackles menage and a bi-sexual encounter in this story. So be warned that there is one scene of m/m interaction and there is spanking and bondage in this story. Once again this is a story about real cowboys and the life that they love.

Channing Kincaid is looking to break free from her strict parent’s conservative values and expectations. What better way to do this by hooking up with a Cowboy and following him around the Rodeo circuit? Unfortunately, Channing picks the wrong Cowboy in the form of Jared, a scumbag of the highest proportions. It turns out Jared is married, which means that Channing needs to get the hell out of dodge. She has limited options of what to next, but when the delectable Colby McKay offers to escort her around the rest of the rodeo circuit, it seems like all her Christmases have come at once. Of course, he lays down his own terms for upholding his end of the bargain; she has to be the personal buckle bunny for him and his riding partners, Trevor and Edgard. Can she give over all sexual control to this Cowboy to experience all the forbidden sexual fantasies she has been harbouring? Course she can! :D

Channing, Colby, Trevor and Edgard start their road trip and pretty soon problems start to arise. Channing may be up for a good time, but she isn’t willing to put up with their slobby ways. Outside of the bedroom she is clearly in charge, inside of the bedroom is a different matter completely. Edgard rarely joins in the fun, but Channing, Trevor and Colby are more than happy to carry on regardless. We have mild bondage (seriously, why does pigging string sound like so much fun :D), oral sex, anal sex and some spanking, for general bad behaviour. The sex scenes are fabulously smutty, but something is missing. It is not until we come down to the scenes where it is just Channing and Colby that the sparks truly ignite. It is quite clear from moment one, that Channing goes weak at the knees whenever Colby looks at her, and, as it is quite unheard of for Colby to want to have recurrent sex with anyone, he is equally smitten. The relationship starts to build quickly, as the confined space of a trailer puts them into a surreal state of happy families, but with an end point in sight for the both of them, neither is truly willing to put a label on any feelings they may harbour. It takes a glimpse into someone else’s relationship for them to realise that love is hard to find. When disaster strikes for the pair, it becomes clear that the pair are just fooling themselves.

Within the main love story, is a series of glimpses into other relationships. We have the attraction between Gemma, a recent widow trying to make her way in a male orientated rodeo circuit, and Big Cash Crow, an older rider on the circuit. Gemma becomes a good friend to Channing as she deals with the jealousy from the other buckle bunnies, and wariness of the other wives and girlfriends. Her inability to deal with Cash’s obvious attraction to her is very sweet. We also have a glimpse into Trevor and Edgards relationship, a tale of a man struggling with his feelings for another man, whose patience is rapidly waning with his lover. This is a heartbreaking look at how homophobia can rip apart a person and really affect their lives. In a broader sense, this book is also about life on the rodeo circuit. All these men and women deal with loneliness, and the constant threat of injury, every day that they travel. This book is a good look at how the Rodeo cowboys and their families bond together to become a travelling family. It really is quite lovely :D

I adore this series. This book is an introduction into the world of the McKay Cowboys and, although it is not in my top three in this series books, it is a fantastic edition. The rest of the books concentrate on ranch life and family values, but to be honest one of the reasons I am so hooked is because of the tale of this massive family dynamic! The Cowboy’s are all possessive, protective and mind-numbingly sexy. You should read them in order, to keep with everyone’s story arc, so start here!

Channing is going through her rebellion against her parents, her destined job and the role her society has ordered for her, and she’s doing this by joining one of the riders in the rodeo. But when her cocky, secretive Aussie turns out to have a wife back home, Channing is stranded in the middle of America with nothing more than her wits and one bag of clothes.Colby has been watching Channing since the first rodeo, he’s been chatting her up, hitting on her and finally she’s free of the Aussie poseur, he moves in and strikes a deal with Channing, she’ll travel with them and see the shows if she agrees to offer her lush body for the three men to warm. The scandalous deal fits Channing’s rebellion and she agrees, thinking she’ll learn a thing or two from the rough and tumble cowboys. What she doesn’t expect is to feel something stronger than lust for Colby – and for him to develop an odd jealous streak.Colby and Channing have undeniable chemistry, though it is not establish in the beginning but further into the story, as well as the reason why she made the deal with Colby and joins the three men on the Rodeo Tour. Which is why I let it slip a little in the synopsis, because had I known it Channing’s actions would have made her feel less like a hussy and more of an experimenter in the beginning.Colby was exhibitionist, tight on control and came out bit too strong at times, even though he had a vulnerability when it came to Channing and what she wanted. Channing was the ultimate society girl who had everything decided for her, and her escape to the rodeo tour was her rebellion only she didn’t think she was going to have more than fun and freedom until she met sexy, strong cowboy who ended up stealing more than kisses.Hot story, more sexy cowboy action than you could imagine, spiced with jealousy and steamy threesomes. Ms. James knows how to write them hot, doesn’t she! There was enough plot to have the reader guessing and wishing, wither it came to Channing and Colby or Edgar’s moodiness or introducing the couple for the next book, loved them both by the way! Thumps up for the dialogue, I love when I get a sexy erotic romance novel with realistic language wither in the love scenes or around them. Nothing spoils a book for me like dumb dialogue, luckily Long Hard Ride was more than good it was entertaining, fun and witty with the right kind of comic relief with all the yummy action. With series starting this hot I’m not at all surprised she’s written 12 more novels in the Rough Riders series – and boy am I happy I have them all to read in my future!

Running away from home, responsibilities and obligations, Channing Kinkaid hooked up with the rodeo circuit. Finding the wrong person the first time through, Channing wasn’t sure if she should take Colby McKay’s offer seriously. The conditions for him and his friends (Trevor Glanzer & Edgard Mancuso) to take her along were of a sexual nature and all seemed to be in agreement of the terms, at first.Book 1 ….. Heard of books that were mostly all about the sex, this one actually has a half way decent set of characters and story line to go along with it. Wasn’t sure about Colby at first, but he grew on me by the end. I liked the strong silent Edgard and wanted a bit more of him (think he shares a story with Trevor later), unfortunately Trevor was a bit of a flake. I liked Cash and Gemma though so I will be looking for a copy of “Rode Hard, Put up Wet”

I've been through a bad patch lately with erotic romances, and so the fact that I could finish this one gives it 3 stars, though really, that's a generous rating. I never really liked the 2 main characters, or rather I could tolerate Colby, the rodeo star, but Channing, the heroine who just didnt' want to be a private school teacher, didn't work for me. I think meeting 2 guys and giving the both head within the first 15 pages was a bit too much for me. And also, oddly, I found the sex was too clinical for me, it didn't really work on a sensual level , and there was a lot of it - I kept thinking, didn't they just do this 5 hours ago? Who wants that much sex in that little time... There was a m/m scene, which apparently is ground breaking, but the threesomes were all strictly hetero (which I just find unbelievable - what, two men are lying with a woman between them and never so much as accidentally touch? All threesomes with 2 women have the women interacting...) It did have very nice descriptions of the rodeo world (of which I know nothing) which felt authentic. I was given this book, and I was happy to get is as a gift but don't know how much I would want to buy another.

What a hot read! This book has a little bit of everything for everyone. There's oral sex, vaginal sex, anal sex, hetero sex, homo sex, bondage sex, menage sex...did I mention the sex? Channing is a blueblood from Boston who has never felt like she fit in. She's always done just what her cold, socially correct parents have told her, they've pretty much run her life til now. She decides to have a summer fling before she settles down to a socially correct job with a socially correct suitor who will be chosen by her parents. She ends up hooking up with a rodeo cowboy...only to find out he's married! So when Colby and his two rodeo pals offer her a sexcapades road trip on the rodeo circuit, she decides to take them ALL up on their offer. There's been some criticism of the uber-Alpha Colby and his schitzo treatment of Channing. I admit that I would NEVER accept the kind of treatment Colby sometimes dished out to Channing. But hey, Channing's an adult and could make her own decisions and she never said stop. So, I enjoyed the book for what it is and look forward to reading the next in this delicious erotic series.
