Excellent, as are all the 39 Clues books. This is a great series, both entertaining and educational, and this book is a worthy addition.

Liked that they went back to the original concept of getting some history into the series instead of just people trying to kill kids and computer hacking. Still fun.....

Breakaway is book 2 in the Unstoppable series that follows the Cahill kids into another adventure. Book one, Nowhere to Run started us off with Amy and Dan after the original series and now they again are being chased, trying to be murdered, and on top of it all someone is out to humiliate them publically as well.Breakaway picks up right were Nowhere to Run left the reader. The clan is trying to find the ingredients for the antidote and have found the first, now they are on to the second, a mysterious plant that is though to be extinct.Three stars may seem like a low review but there are a lot of things that I did enjoy about this book. There were many references to Atlantis which I found fun and fantastical but also a lot of historical references that were wonderful to read in a middle grade book – yay learning (yes I am a nerd)! However on the downside there were a few things I did not like, I think Amy is kind of a pain, yes she is the leader of the Cahills now, but she either needs to take that power and use it or let it go – she is very all over the place. I understand that it is not your typical teens way of life to lead family but sometimes she acts like she is all-powerful and other times she is whiney and annoying – I found her annoying thus the pet peeve about that.I found the plot building in this book to be better than the first one and that may be because book 1 introduced me to the characters (I had not read the original 39 Clues books). Overall it was an easy, quick read and I think middle grade readers who are still into this series will enjoy it.

ARC provided by NetGalleyAmy and Dan Cahill have survived, no mean feat given how many family and friends have passed on around them. But a new threat has emerged, one that has power over the media, who will stop at nothing to overthrow the Cahill’s and create his own army. And mass produce the serum to make the world his own. The challenges are greater than ever before for Dan and Amy and to protect those around them…Amy may have to stand alone before an unstoppable enemy. I missed the whole 39 Clues series the first go around. I mean, I saw the books but just wrote it off as something that looked...hooky. But I read the first book in this series (it’s the 3rd series) and instantly got caught up in the action and the intrigue. Two young characters just trying to survive and they get no respite from the enemies that surround them…and very few that will stand next to them. So I was eager and excited to read the next volume in this series…and I found myself walking away slightly disappointed. I don’t know what it is, but having the characters scattered in different places and trying to remember where they were five chapters previously just broke up the action for me. It just wasn’t as exciting as it was in the first book and it didn’t feel like the plot moved forward as much as it should have…or could have.Don’t get me wrong, it’s still a great series and I would recommend it without a heartbeat, but this one just didn’t do much for me. I’m still looking forward to the 3rd book because I want to know what happens, but they’re going to have to step it up a notch or two. I give the book 3.5 out of 5 stars.
