About this audiobook

Sarah Miller hasn't been home in seven years. She thought she could stay away forever. If it wasn't for her big brother's wedding, that is. Part of her even feels silly for staying away this long. It's not like anyone even knew what happened. Well, except for him.

That guy. The one she compared all others to. The one who set the bar so high no other guy after him could even compete. The one who made her feel like anything was possible. The one she thought she would never be good enough for. The one she spent the last seven years trying to forget.
All she needs to do is make it through the next week without running into him.

This would have worked if it had been a historical romance. You know, when people weren't able to communicate easily.
Sarah hasn't been home for seven years. We can see how her family is close, how they love each other, especially how her brother loves her. And, yet, we are supposed to believe that she has never met his fiancee (they have been together for two years now), that she hasn't got a clue that Will is there all the time. There are tons of things which bugged me in this book.
Oh, and the reason why she left! I can understand a mild misunderstanding about that supposedly horrible reason, but not seven years away.
As I said, I think this would have have been pretty nice historical romance.

This was a love story that jumps between present and the past. This is also a love story that does revolve around miscommunication. It was a sweet story, but there was just too much that was driving me crazy. It has been seven years since Sarah and Will have seen each other. I found it odd that Will is best friends with her brother and was around her family all these years, but Sarah had no idea. Her family has no clue what happened between the two and she just disappeared. It would have been ok if they were around people they were not close too, but this was her family (including the brother who she was really close with as a teen). It just annoyed me. Sarah was very unlikeable to me. She was stuck in her past and held onto high school way too much. I found myself rolling my eyes so many times. This one just did not work for me. Will bit his lower lip so many times that again I found myself rolling my eyes and annoyed. I only finished since I was flying through it.

Sarah and Will… best friends who loved each other since middle school. Life and misunderstandings got in the way, which forced them to move on with life in the dark and really not moving on. Both of them have tried desperately to move past their love for one another, but that just didn’t seem to happen. They are both still miserable and stubborn; now thrown back together in Sarah’s brother’s wedding.
Sarah tries so hard to deny that she still loves Will. She tries to hold on to the anger she has held for years. Will has no clue what drove her away. He is trying so hard to get her to talk to him. He wants her more now than he ever has.
The chemistry between these two is undeniable. Their love is undeniable. Once the two come together again, old habits start to come back one at a time. These two are almost like a symphony… They know each other’s thoughts. They can almost anticipate the other’s next move… almost.
This story of unrequited love will capture your attention. You will be hanging on to every word… You will want Sarah to just wake up. I found myself begging her to grow up and drop the chip on her shoulder. Things in life don’t always go the way they should. But when life throws you a second bone, you take it, right?

I had high hopes for this due to all the five star reviews but was bitterly disappointed. I nearly gave up on it actually. The book is not badly written, and if I were 13 or 14 I probably would have loved it. So it's probably just a personal thing, I was the wrong audience.
To me, the main female character was beyond annoying. Nobody can be this naive. Some things just didn't make sense: Her ex becomes best friends with her brother, in fact, he is going to be the best man at the brother's wedding and she has no idea??? Her ex being in constant contact with the rest of her family and she has no idea?? And far too many lopsided grins...

This book has been on my TBR list for a very long time and I am glad to have finally made time to get to it. It is a quiet story, meaning not a lot of tension or drama. I also have the sequel "Her" on my TBR list and am not certain I will get to that immediately. This story was fine, but not overly intriguing to make me "jump" into the next book.

This book made me fall in love. Will is the ultimate hero- he is kind, sexy, funny, smart, and honest. Sarah is an equally likable heroine – she is sweet, sincere, and has believable weaknesses such as her insecurities and determination to protect her heart from being broken again.

This story is a creative blend of the past and present day. Two stories unfold as Heywood expertly gives readers a glimpse into the high school romance of two best friends and the circumstances that pulled them apart. At the same time the story reveals their present day lives years later when they are forced back into contact at Sarah’s brother’s wedding. Will is the one guy that Sarah cannot get out of her mind. The one guy who is the reason she has not returned home in seven years. The one guy that can still break her heart. If only she can get over Him.

Will and Sarah first met in middle school and a delightful friendship blossoms. This story is so realistic that it brought me back to my own school days – first kisses, hanging out with friends, the social hierarchy of high school, trying to fit in, dealing with parents, and first crushes. The post high school story has a similar realism and shows the distance one will go to try not to think about their first love, the heartbreak, the choices we make, the past that we cannot let go of. The writing is exceptional.

Lucy Rivers does an outstanding job in the narration of this novel. Sarah starts out as a high school senior and in some areas, mostly where Will is concerned, she has not grown up. Her character is very likable, but could easily be portrayed as whiney or immature by the wrong narrator. Lucy gives her conviction, strength and a very believable hesitancy where Will is concerned. In the narration Sarah comes off as heartbroken and afraid, but never whiney. Will’s narration is expertly done as well. I found the narrator added depth to the story and was very engaging. Rivers was easy to listen to and always made it very clear who was speaking. I would highly recommend her as a book narrator.

The story as a whole is completely gripping. I could not put this audiobook down. Both the narration and the content are excellent. I do, however, have the following warnings for other listeners: 1. Some of the dialogue between Will & Sarah is so funny it made me laugh out loud at times. This resulted in strange looks from the people around me on the train who were not enjoying this delightful audiobook. 2. You cannot help but cheer for Will and Sarah. This may result in smiling like a crazy person when Will and Sarah are together at various points. The story is so moving that I was genuinely happy when they were happy. It could not be helped. While I tend to be on the klutzy side in general, this is the first time I actually walked into a wall while listening to a book (OK, so I slightly misjudged a door frame and my shoulder collided). So just a word of caution for those readers like me who tend to get absorbed into a “book world”. This story is a wonderful adventure that you can become totally absorbed in. I cannot wait to listen to the next book in this series “Her” – which is actually the same story told from Will’s perspective instead of Sarah’s.

You can find this review at My Favorite Things (heffroberts.blogspot.com)Him by Carey Heywood, what can I say? This book had my emotions in a vice grip from the get-go. The part that really grabbed me was the going back home, seeing people from way back, old feelings resurfacing, the bittersweet reminiscing, and just the bitter part too...Sarah Miller is a neurotic workaholic with a severe avoidance issue. What happened that caused her to be gone from home for seven straight years? Why is she dreading going back so much? The story passes back and forth between her senior high school year and the present. Will is not the one that got away, he's the one she fled from. The circumstances of their breakup are slowly revealed, so I won't divulge. When Sarah finally arrives home she realizes just what she's been avoiding, and how it has effected everyone in her family. A poignant portrayal of misconceptions and lost opportunities all tied in with hope and rediscovery. There is a Happily Ever After and I really enjoyed this book. There's another book being released with these characters.I'm not clear on the details, possibly from Will's POV but not a re-write of Him, just a continuation of the characters lives...
