About this audiobook

Verbally abused by her mother for years, 18-year-old Ellie Johnson always believed she would never be loved or wanted by anyone. She focused all of her attention on her grades and getting into the University of Texas to start a new life away from her mother. The last thing Ellie expected was to fall in love with Gunner Mathews, a starting linebacker for the University of Texas football team and not to mention, her brother's best friend. Gunner only has two passions in life, football and his grandfather's ranch, until he falls for his best friend's little sister. He will stop at nothing to show Ellie how much he wants her, even if it means he has to move faster than she would like. Gunner knows they are meant to be together forever, but Ellie keeps denying her feelings out of fear of being hurt again. Every time he gets close to winning her love, something pushes her away again. Will Ellie ever be able to let go of the past and let him into her heart and will Gunner be patient enough to wait for her?

Although I mostly enjoyed the story and characters, the prose itself has a case of trying-too-hard and its "cleverness" is merely annoying.

This novel is a follow-up to Spelled. I had to review the first book to remember all the craziness that happened!Rexi, Dot’s side-kick--so to speak--in Spelled, has her own story with this novel, which is ironic. For the entire novel, Rexi is trying to not be erased from all the stories. She repeatedly dies, but Dorothea is able to bring her back despite the king of the dead wanting her as well. Every time she dies, Morte clips more of her storyline, making her forget her stories/life. In this novel, they are bridging the gap between fairy tales and legends. For example, Rexi is the daughter of Robin Hood, which would mean that she should be really good at stealing. Alas, it always goes awry. In this novel, Rexi is trying to get Excaliber, Arthur’s sword so that it stays out of Blanc’s hands. If she gets it, she’ll have too much power. Many characters from the second novel reappear, but their personalities change and they have a shorter time on the pages. To be honest, I didn’t like this novel as well as the first. We hardly saw the characters we were interested in from the first book; it truly focuses on Rexi who isn’t that interesting. The novel seems chaotic and hard to follow as Dorothea is going crazy because of her powers; Kato shows up occasionally to give Rexi a faux love interest; and, Oz has the role of storymaker with no story telling ability. I could never get interested because the story just ran around--something happens, she dies, something happens, she dies, old character shows up, something happens, she dies. Perhaps I wasn’t “in the mood,” but this novel just didn’t do it for me. You definitely need a background in the Arthur and Robin Hood legends--just a little, not full knowledge. Give it a try if you read the first book. Otherwise, I can show you some more captivating novels for your reading pleasure.

Ellie amazing, insecure , totally loved her even with her faults and insecurities . She had a rough time with her mom's verbal abuse growing up and anyone who has been through that can understand why she was the way she was ....I am glad that she found the love that she found and was able to finally be happy after all she had been through with her mom .

Their love for one another was what most look for and never find!

Gunner OMG , Hot sexy, loving , patient man ... PATIENT was not even the word for him , he was amazing through this book . I love how he was patient with her, kind and very considerate of her all the time! Gunner is the perfect guy that will have you questioning your own relationships because your man will look bad next to him!! hahahahahhahaha

Ari and Jeff, they are another power couple and I am hoping that their story will continue, because I felt it was unfinished with these two. OMG I soooo Disliked the way it was left with them two BUT news is that's she is writing Jeff and Ari's story next! I CAN not wait for their story to continue ,......

I wanted to love this book. The description sounded great and this is exactly the type of book I am usually into. However, I couldn't even get past the first 30 pages. It was that bad. I felt like I was reading a book that a middle school girl had written. The main character didn't want to go to class because she knew they'd be playing "stupid ass games"? That was enough to make me stop reading right there. Once the author threw in "Oh fuck a duck" and "Oh hells bells," I knew I was done. Normal teenagers do not talk like this. "Stupid ass" is not a proper description for everything. Apparently the author didn't have any friends to read her work and give it to her straight. I found myself saying, "Oh, honey.." so many times while reading this book. Other than the horrible, awful vocabulary, this book just didn't hold my interest. The main character seemed immature and I couldn't imagine this being a real love story. It might hold your attention if you are 11-13 years old but 16 , forget about it.
