      I made the mistake of reading a more recent book with a different narrator this narrator was hard to listen to I do understand it's an older book. The book was awesome, kept me in suspense.

      I liked this book. I thought the best friend of the father did not think it was the person that did it. I like the wisecracking Myron and the attitude of his best friend Win. I can't wait to read more about Myron Bolitar and (Win) Windsor Lockwood III.

      I liked it. I didn't have high hopes for it after reading the blurb - I'm not usually interested in "sports themed" books, but this one was not... yeah, the main character is a sports agent, but that's about the extent of sports-oriented activities.The mystery is decent, there are a couple minor sub-plots to keep your interest, and there are a few occasions that Myron and Win have to sort out with a bit of "justice by toe of boot" - I even liked the snappy wisecracks of Myron and the "invincible" attitude of Win. All in all, it's a decent book and I'm certainly going to be reading more books by Coben. The only minor negative is that the book might be a bit dated (it is nearly 20 years old, of course)... but that shouldn't be an issue.

      This is the novel introducing Myron Bolitar and Windsor Lockwood, III, called Win. It feels as if they have quite a few stories behind them. These mysteries have the feel of the Golden Age, with the updated times and happenings of the present. Myron and Win are unstoppable. Win is like a super-hero, but in a creepy and weird way. Myron, supposed to be very smart, has no problem taking cracks at himself. I like his wise cracks and toughness, combined with a solid moral base. Moral in the sense of what is important in life. He doesn't cheat his clients, he won't let anyone else cheat them either. He doesn't allow people to hurt those who are at a disadvantage. I find it refreshing.In this story, a young girl has disappeared. Over a year later her father is murdered, then her roommate. It happens that the girl's sister is Myron's ex-girlfriend, Jessica, and she returns to ask his help. Myron soon finds himself in the unenviable position of airing the dirty linen in Jessica's family closet.

      At first I didn't want to read about a sports agent even though it was labeled as suspense! FALSE MOVE. I am so glad I ordered the first book because I am now on the 4th and cannot wait to catch up on the series. Myron's character gets you hooked from page one! Great suspense/murder mystery novel!

      A mix of both the entertaining and the annoying. The pace is fast and the mystery intriguing but the lead characters of Myron and Win are often annoyingly egocentric with occasional flashes of genuine wit overshadowed by one too many smart-alec put downs.

      ¡Not again! Another cynical, wise-cracking, smart ass, self-deprecating, over the peak, white-bread-for-an-audience investigator (think Elvis Cole; think Kinky Friedman ) and his invincible, martial man-demon who shows up when the plot looks hopeless and the writer needs a break. These two stumble through faintly liberal descriptions of the non-suburban world by stomping butt and having a good 45 caliber blowout against the truly evil, dark American underbelly guys. Then good prevails again. Who would believe the stuff you read when you are stuck in bed, waiting to get well, or belted down for 4 hours in an airplane.

      Myron and his rich friend, Win, are tough jocks, former military, FBI, Investigators and businessmen. This is an interesting story of their involvement in solving a murder case and repairing long thwarted personal relations. The story twists through a mine field of problems associated with recruiting athletes and representing them while trying to place them with professional teams. This effort involves competing interests of the athletes family, coaches, friends, gamblers, the mob and motion through life. Characters are well developed and story has enough questions and apparent solutions to keep you reading to the end. An enjoyable read!

      My first Harlan Coben book ever, and even though I've read it close to 20 years after it was written, I really enjoyed it. Good characters, good plot, details that were thought out and spun together, and a few twists as well. A little more light hearted than some other authors I like, but a good change of pace. I plan to keep reading this series.

      I don't generally like the wise-cracking detectives, and so this isn't my cup of tea. But Coben really knows how to put a story together. Football star's girlfriend disappears and is presumed dead; then reappears in a porno magazine offering phone sex a year later. Is she dead or alive? Why did she disappear? Suspects are Dad, the Dean of her College, the porno magazine editor, her high school English teacher.

      The third book I've read by Harlan Coben, and I'm starting to notice some common themes - female characters who may or may not be dead, incredible personality transformations on the part of said female characters, and a wisecracking narrative. That's not to say I disliked this - it moved along at an impressive pace, and kept me guessing until the end.This is the first time I have encountered Coben's character Myron Bolitar, a man who doesn't realise it is an author who was saddled him with a name that sounds like a manufacturer of prestressed concrete, and instead rails against his parents. Ho hum. I am convinced his success in his field is down to having mates in just about every useful societal niche, who can get him out of bother with a lesbian kiss or a sawn-off shotgun, whatever suits the occasion. No wonder he wanders around spraying one-liners in all directions even when in mortal peril.

      I've heard a lot about this series over the years and finally decided to pick up the first couple entries to the series while browsing my local used book store. I'm glad I did! Deal Breaker, the first Myron mystery, is an fun romp through New York and New Jersey; introducing Myron, best friend Win, assistant Esperanza, and devastatingly gorgeous ex-girlfriend Jessica. Being both eclectic and likeable, Myron's the nice guy you want to see get to the finish line. He's also got a quip for just about anything, and the most dangerous backup this side of the Equalizer. Coben does an excellent job of giving the reader enough pieces to think they've got a handle on what's going on, only to realize the further along they go, the less they really know! His characters are excellent and the story will pull you along right to the end, and make you wonder what Myron and company will be up to next. Since this title was published in the mid-nineties, some of the references and technologies are a little dated, but I'm looking forward to seeing how the series progresses.

      I love Harlan's stand alones and really wanted to start the Myron series from the beginning. I'm so glad I did and would thoroughly recommend reading this. I was concerned when I started this that it would feel really dated (being 10 years old), but it really didn't matter. You got so engrossed in the story that the 90's references were almost unnoticeable after a while.Myron is just such a loveable character and you cheer for him every step of the way. Coben's characters have the believability factor that many novels don't. Roll on book 2. I can't wait!

      This is the first book in Coben's Myron Bolitar series and I think the first book that Coben wrote. Myron Bolitar is a former college basketball star and former first round pick of the Boston Celtics. After a freak injury Bolitar makes the transition from athlete to agent. The story begins with Bolitar signing highly touted football draft pick Christian Steele. New client in tow Bolitar is destined for the big time. Unfortunately, for Bolitar things do not always go as planned. A mystery ensues and Bolitar will get into his trademark high jinx. Coben to me falls short in this one compared to his other work. I love his stand alone novels. However, the hook and suspense are there but Coben's trust in the reader is not. The ending seemed to be more fitting for a Scooby Doo episode and not a Coben thriller. His characters are endearing for the most part and the humor/dialogue is fitting. I will continue with the Bolitar series and give it more of a chance because of Coben's other work that I have enjoyed so much.

      You have to love a former NBA pro turned sports agent who lives at home with Mom and Dad in suburban NJ, who has a WASP sidekick with deadpan quirky ways, and a hot Hispanic wrestler secretary named Esperanza who is whip smart. Myron whips out his Harvard Law credential when its the right blade for the occasion, and melts like a puppy at the mention of his on again, off again heart throb Jessica. Honest writing, great characters, language that nails it, and an utterly vulnerable hero you come to love and care about as if you were his mom. Mrs. Bolitar, you rock.

      This is the first book by Harlan Coben I have read and I will definitely be reading more. Myron Bolitar is definitely not your average crime/thriller hero as he still lives with his parents! He's also a sports agent, a lawyer, seems to have been a Fed at some point in his career, so he knows how to handle himself - his associates include his friend Win, who seems to be a bit of a pyschopath, and Esperanza, who used to wrestle as Little Pocahontas - which gives you some idea of the mix of terror, humour, violence and suspense, I really didn't see the ending coming, that Coben weaves in this novel.

      This was the first in the Myron Bolitar series by Harlan Coben. The plot centers around a cunning mystery of sex, murder and blackmail. Simon is a multi-dimensional character having been a sports figure turned FBI agent turned lawyer and ending as a sports agent. All these facets of his background come into play in this story where his prize client is involved in a possible murder. Simon's support staff include a college friend who enjoys playing enforcer while in appearance is MR. Preppie and a secretary/receptionist who used to be a wrestler.The fact the Simon is not a detective or policeman or PI makes this series seem a bit more interesting because you wonder what other aspects of his background have you not been told yet. I will admit that I was surprised by the ending, I was not prepared for the solution even though I had an inkling of what was happening. Definitely entertaining!

      I like Harlan Coben very much. He is funny, he writes good stories with unpredictable plots. The characters are always deep and cleverly chosen.But. Why, why do all of his heroes know a shady rich guy who knows Kung-Fu and has a lot of leisure time?

      This was a nice change of pace from the usual detective/suspense story. Instead of a detective, we have Myron Bolitar, a sports agent. Granted, he *used* to be a Fed, and he has a law degree, but he's not a cop, nonetheless. I liked Myron, though his friend Win is a little --. weird. But an interesting character. The mystery itself was interesting, and I really didn't have it figured out by the end. I like that! I also like the dry humor. A series I will continue with!

      I never even noticed Harlan Coben books until he came this past February to the SC Book Festival. After hearing him speak about Myron Bolitar, it was evident that Coben and Bolitar are one in the same (except Coben does not experience the adventure!), A nice introduction to the Myron Bolitar series and will look forward to reading the other books in the series. If you are looking for a fast-paced book with quirky, sarcastic characters--this book is for you.

      Whole paragraphs, pages, 2-liners are utterly hilarious. Good plot, nothing special, but well done. All good enough, especially the humor to keep me up well past midnight in order to finish the book.The first of the Myron Bolitar series, Deal Breaker introduces Myron and his sociopathic blue-blood sidekick, Win, a great pair. Bolitar is not an original, but Win comes close!Characterization is good, particularly of Win. Nothing heavy-duty here but great fun.
