About this audiobook

At eighteen, Corinne Bishop was a beautiful, spirited young woman living a life of privilege as the adopted daughter of a wealthy family. Her world changed in an instant when she was stolen away and held prisoner by the malevolent vampire Dragos. After many years of captivity and torment, Corinne is rescued by the Order, a cadre of vampire warriors embroiled in a war against Dragos and his followers. Her innocence taken, Corinne has lost a piece of her heart as well-the one thing that gave her hope during her imprisonment, and the only thing that matters to her now that she is free.

Assigned to safeguard Corinne on her trip home is a formidable golden-eyed Breed male called Hunter. Once Dragos's most deadly assassin, Hunter now works for the Order, and he's hell-bent on making Dragos pay for his manifold sins. Bonded to Corinne by their mutual desire, Hunter will have to decide how far he'll go to end Dragos's reign of evil-even if carrying out his mission means shattering Corinne's tender heart.

Another great addition to the Midnight Breed series. As usual, I stayed up all night to finish Corinne and Hunter's story. Have always wondered about Hunter and this gives us a better look into him.

I really enjoyed this suspenseful adventure story. It moved the plot forward, was interesting, and kept most of the characters in our view. The romance element was very mild unfortunately. I didn't really feel like the characters spent a lot of time getting to know each other, but at the same time I truly felt that they were soulmates based on their history.

I read the previous book (Taken By Midnight) in 2013 so I was kind of playing catch up while reading this. Adrian recapped all the important stuff throughout the story though so that was handy.Since starting this series I read J.R. Ward's Black Dagger Brotherhood which is pretty similar to Midnight Breed. I kept getting the storylines and characters mixed up....I'm not sure I'll continue with Midnight Breed but I did enjoy this instalment. There seems to be more focus on the main storyline of the series instead of the romance which made it a more interesting read.Format: ebookOwnership: ownTags: Vampires, BrotherhoodThemes: Tortured Hero, Tortured Heroine, Virgin Hero

You absolutely can't read this as a stand-alone; the continuing fight of the Order against Dragos comes to ahead here.

The main couple of Hunter and Corinne are honestly only 10-15% of the story, the majority is bringing the Order and Dragos to ahead. This is done through many different POVs, with Lucan and Sterling Chase being the majority. Sterling Chase fighting going Rogue, is a good 30% of this with him almost feeling like the main character (his book is next).

I love the world building and was completely into all the arcs and threads coming together and weaving in and out. I was pretty disappointed in this as Hunter's story though. As I said, we barely see his and Corinne's romance, and I don't think we got to really delve into his character.

So yeah, read this as just a world-building bridge in the series and the continuing war against Dragos and definitely not for the romance.

I shouldn't wait so long to review, it makes me forget the book... I liked this, both hero and heroine. Heroine is traumatized from decades of abuse. Hero is stoic and new to emotions and relationships. I liked their story, but I think I lost some of my interest because I read it over a few weeks, putting it down for days at a time (not because of the story, but because I didn't have time to read. Though one could argue that perhaps if I had been more engaged in the story, I would have made time to read). I was looking forward to these character's stories, and definitely will read the next book (interested in Chase's HEA) but generally I think my love for this series has become tepid. (3.5 stars)

    Synopsis:
At the age of 18, Corinne Bishop’s life was shattered when she was kidnapped and subjected to horrifying experiments at the hands of the monstrous Breed known as Dragos. Now that she has been rescued, Corinne only want to return home and get on with her life. Accompanied by the most enigmatic of the warriors of the Order, Hunter, Corrine arrives home only to discover that things are not as they appear and that her life and heart may be in even more danger than before.

    Review:
    Wow! What an intense ride

Hunter and Corinne are a great couple. They are both terribly scarred and have so much to overcome in order to love and trust again. The development of their relationship is slow but consistent with their characterization, and even though it is not as steamy as in previous books, it is just as romantic and perhaps even more so.

Hunter has always been one of my favorite characters with his hard and harsh exterior but his softness and need to protect others on the inside. This is never more apparent than in his interaction with Corrine. For her part, Corrine is an amazing woman with an inner strength that defies all logic. I love the fact that Hunter finds a mate who is worthy and accepting of him and vice versa.

More details are provided with regard to Chase’s mental and physical deterioration. He has always been an ambiguous character, and while one cannot help but feel for what he has suffered, he is also a jerk and wallows too much in self-pity. It will be interesting to see what happens in his book, and I have no doubt that he will redeem himself and get his own HEA.

In terms of the writing, the first half of the book progresses more slowly - possibly because the parts with Chase descending into Bloodlust distract from the development of Hunter and Corrine's story - but the second half is intense with excellent action scenes and exciting revelations.

The book ends on a small cliffhanger and I am very happy that I don’t have to wait too long for the next installment.

I never thought I would read a story about Hunter getting a happily ever after. The way he was raised and trained it is hard to think of him having or even being capable of tender emotions. However if you think about it must be possible even the Vulcans aren't completely without emotion. I did enjoy that finding love came out of nowhere and took him down without much of a fight. Of all the Order only Lucan and Teagan were more surprised when they found their mates and I think they fought harder. I am sure that it is the Alpha in of them that resists admitting that their mate is staring them in the face. I have cheered on Hunter since he freed himself from Dragos. After all that he has been through he deserves a home and peace. Unfortunately peace isn't going to come soon. I know that the end of the current overall story arc will end in the next book but I can’t imagine that the Order will have peace after their existence is brought to light, human are just not that accepting of those that are different. We have seen all through history.Corinne Bishop is an amazing woman. She has fought and survived things most women would die from. She has kept her spirit and willingness to love intact even through all that Dragos and his lieutenants have done to her. She has never given up the hope of finding her son and saving him from Dragos's evil plans. She has held on to the hope that her family was searching for her and that she would be rescued one day even though it has been decades since she was captured and held by Dragos. Corinne goes through a lot of betrayal and anguish throughout this story but she comes through with courage and stubbornness. She is a deserving mate for Hunter and the mother that Nathan is going to need if he is to fit into society. This story is leads immediately into the next book and I feel sorry for those that had to wait an entire year for that book to come out. The ending here would do any television show cliff hanger justice. There is so much left up in the air. So many things that can go so very wrong and Dragos is still alive. I hate cliff hangers and it has been known to keep me from watching a television show because of it. I am glad that I waited to read these two books until they are both out so I can read them back to back. This story doesn't have as many love scenes as the other stories have and there are several reasons for that and the reader will understand when they get further into the book. There is also a nice surprise in this story an even that has been building up through the last several books.Overall this is a very good story. I didn't read it as quickly as I could have mostly because I could feel the anxiety building with every page. The escalating dread that something very bad is going to happen to all these characters that I have come to love. There is more than one character that is on the edge of disaster. I wasn't wrong in this feeling. This is the darkest of all the stories so far, the one with the fewest happy times. While I hope that the feeling of the book improves I don’t see that happening any time soon.

I can't believe I'm at teh end of the series (for now). What a heartwrenching journey - grief, loss, the strength of a woman fighting for her child...it all is wrapped up in the words of this book. Excellent, wonderful, hot, demanding, intense. Five stars!

I love Hunter. I think he is a great character. It has been good to watch him grow from just a killer to a "person" who is not afraid of dealing death, but there is more to his life than that now. I was not as big of a fan of Corinne. She is a strong woman and I am not 100% sure what I did not like about her, but there was something about her.

There was a lot of other story going on with this one. Chase, for one. I a very interested to see where that is heading. I am assuming that the next book will be his. Also, the Archers. I foresee the Gen One male joining the Order at some point.

I also can't wait to see what happens with Nathan. I see him joining the Order.

This book is about Hunter and while I liked it there are a number of things that didn't quite work. For instance, the battles between the gen one's were always one-sided, a bit same same and unbelievable. Hunter always won and rarely was injured in these breeds that were supposedly the same. ****SPOILER*****
I liked that they found the kid, it was a good element but the character of Hunter's misses (I literally just finished this and can't remember her name - says a lot) is not very deep. All these horrible things she suffered are dealt with in a lasissez faire way. Just didn't do it for me. I did like the Chase element, one things that kept the book interesting.
Still, there was enough of an overarching plot to keep me interested so I will probably get the next one. But very close to a 'meh'.

Deeper than Midnight was exactly what I’ve come to expect from a Lara Adrian novel, emotionally engaging, well written, and multi-dimensional. I was swept in from the beginning of the story and could not put it down. Hunter’s ability to open his heart and feel real emotions for the first time was captivating, while Corrine’s gentle strength, determination, and tenacious ability to overcome her emotional captivity was simply breathtaking. I emphatically hope that we will see more of them in future books. For me, the cliffhanger at the end of this book was her finest yet and I am desperately looking forward to the next installment in the story of the Midnight Breed.

Since Hunter first arrived on the scene, I looked forward to his story. I'm glad he's finally found a "home" and he's around others who accept and appreciate him despite his origin. I don't have much to say about Corinne. Kidnapped and missing for 75 years, she's finally found by the Order. She wants to be reunited with her family, but a happy family reunion proves difficult when Hunter discovers a disturbing truth.

I didn't enjoy the book as much as I'd have liked to. It felt like a filler between the ending of one climactic situation with Dragos and beginning of another. The ending made me sad but promises an exciting continuation in this series. It looks like **** is just now really beginning to hit the fan!

Like I said, a little disappointing but don't dismiss it because it has some important events that shouldn't be missed.

If you've read this series you pretty much know what to expect, two people find themselves being drawn to each other, have adventures, find that there's love there. This one also has Corinne searching for the son she had for Dragos when he had her captive and more plots by Dragos to spoil their days. It's interesting but somehow left me feeling like I wanted more.

I loved it! Lara Adrain delivers yet again! She changed her writing style a bit in Deeper Than Midnight. You get different point of views and I really enjoyed that. I've been a big fan of Chase since Midnight Awakening and in Deeper than Midnight you get a sub-plot with Chase. I've waited a long time for his story and I am super excited for Darker After Midnight. Deeper Than Midnight is full of action, suspense and another emotinal, but great love story! Corrine was a very strong character. She didn't let her past ruin her future. And Hunter... He now has a place in my heart (actually i think i love em all lol). All he's known is how to be a warrior and kill. He's never felt any emotions and the way Adrian described his feelings for Corrine, was perfect! It was easy to picture them together. I do feel though that Sh*t is about to hit the fan! Lol we're coming close to the end of the series and things are getting really heated for the Breed and their mates. I cannot wait to see how this series ends and where Adrian takes the story next. There isnt one book in this series I don't like. Now the wait for the next book.

Review Courtesy of Dark Faerie Tales Quick & Dirty: Dark and sexy, powerful and beautiful.Opening Sentence: The club was private, very much off the beaten path, and for damned good reason. The Review:Deeper than Midnight is the ninth installment of Lara Adrian’s Midnight Breed series. The Breed is currently one of my favorite groups of vampires, and one of the more traditionally vampiric groups as well. One difference between the Breed and your everyday blood suckers is their ruling bodies, and type of enforcement. This series features a group of warriors and enforcers known as the Order. These gentlemen are known for being hard as nails, ruthless, demanding…..and as sexy as your most vivid daydream. And this story’s hero, Hunter, is no exception. Darkly mysterious Hunter was bred to be just that, a hunter. As a former assassin for the most hated among the Breed, the dastardly Dragos, Hunter knows nothing of love, compassion, or friendship…and everything about evil, corruption and death. As a member of the Order, Hunter must complete his primary objective, certain annihilation of the one who created him and the other hunters like him. Even when this objective will almost certainly mean the end of his tentative relationship with the fragile Corinne, Hunter must follow through for the greater good. It’s so sad that this beautifully stoic man should face losing his first love, in the line of duty as it were. But, relax my friends, as this is a paranormal romance, and thus he does live out his own HEA.One other thing that makes the Breed different from your average vampires is the way their mates are chosen. Breedmates are traditionally humans born with the genetics to become the perfect mates for their Breed counterparts, and marked with a special birthmark. Unfortunately, in recent times, these genetics also made Corinne and many others a target for the machinations of a deranged lunatic, his sick scientific experiments and horrifying breeding program. After having been trapped for decades, she was freed in the last book, and brought to the Order’s HQ to acclimate before going back home to her adoptive parents. When her original escorts are detained, Hunter offers to accompany her home. Once there, a horrible truth is revealed and she sets off on a mission with the mysterious Hunter while secretly hoping to find the son she was forced to give up as a result of that breeding program. Now this poor woman has really been through one of the worst horrors any of us could think of. Being kidnapped, violated, forced to mate with a beast, and forced to give up a child… it’s all unimaginable. The way she was able to use the hope of finding her child to pull through a nightmare is inspiring. The subsequent betrayal and losses are also seriously distressing. Really, that part of this story seriously ticked me off. Anyway, Corinne is a real reader’s heroine. She’s not whiny or overly pathetic. She’s not nauseatingly upbeat or perky. She’s just driven by hope for the future and by the love and understanding of a good man, or vampire in this case. This story also continues the storylines involving the rest of the Order’s members. In this one we witness life, love, loneliness and sorrow. And the final scene will absolutely break your soul.I have to say Deeper than Midnight really touched my heart. Lara Adrian is an artist. She just makes you truly feel things. I can’t wait to read the next installment, Darker after Midnight.Notable Scene:“I need to find my child, Hunter. I need to see him and touch him, make sure he knows that I love him. Now that I’m free, I have to find him. I have to try to give him a better life.” She moved around in front of him, forcing him to meet her gaze. “Hunter, I need to remember everything about the day my son was born. Something might have been said or done by Dragos or his Minions that could lead me to my child. Something that may be tucked away in my memories. I need you to help me remember everything about that day.”Hunter’s face went even tighter as he absorbed what she was proposing. He grabbed her hand and pulled it away from him on a growled curse. “You want my help? Do you know what that would mean?”“Yes,” she admitted. “And I know it’s asking too much of you. But I’m asking because you’re the best hope I have right now. You are very likely the only hope I have of finding my child.”He stared, disbelieving or disgusted, she couldn’t tell. Heat flared in his eyes, but she wouldn’t back down. She couldn’t. Not when she felt closer than ever to the answers she so desperately needed.“Hunter, please,” she whispered. “I want you to drink from me.”The Midnight Breed Series:1. Kiss of Midnight2. Good read, kept a good steady pace throughout and although it ended quite abruptly that didn't bother me because I know being part of a series it will pick right back up in the next book. A notable difference in this book was that yes it is Hunter and Corinne's story, however, there is quite a bit of space taken up with what was going on with Sterling Chase "Harvard". I really liked Hunter when he was introduced to the series and am not surprised to see him developing the way he is as being lethal when needed yet compassionate and gentle as well. I think he'll be a great influence for Nathan and hope that works out in a good way in fututre stories for the two of them. I mean who would understand each other better than them right. Dragos is still an ass with no conscience or morals but nothing new there. Bottom line for me is that no this wasn't my favorite of the series but it was definitly good and worth reading.

The Order's fight against Dragos and his evil plans has been long and hard ... and there's no true end in sight. The evil mastermind remains one step ahead of the Breed warriors at every turn, and though they may strike out with some success, each success is met with retribution on the part of their enemy. In the latest installment it seems they are no closer to stopping the mad vampire than they were when they first discovered his existence. The romantic focus of Deeper Than Midnight is Hunter, and his unexpected attachment to a breedmate saved from one of Dragos' labs. Together they represent two classes of victims produced by the labs - the women used for the "breeding program," and the offspring that are then raised as weapons instead of individuals. Hunter is an intriguing character largely for his past, which comes into focus in this text. While his humanizing developments happen a little too quickly and easily, this seems to be characteristic of most supernatural romances with "complicated" male counterparts. While I enjoyed the romance aspects of the novel, I am at this point fairly frustrated with the "pending vampire Doomsday" that has been inching along, and that frustration will probably keep me from pursuing the series in the future.

Bought for MyselfOverall Rating 4.25Story Rating 4.00Character Rating 4.50NOTE: The Midnight Breed series is my favorite series of all time. I love Lara Adrian's writing and the stories that she has crafted. Hunter is a character I have been drawn to since he was introduced and was not disappointed in his story. What I Loved: Hunter was everything I knew he could be in this story. From the moment he was introduced in the series, you knew he was different from the rest of the Order. He is more stoic, quiet, and singular which in a way made him more intriguing to me. I also knew this would be why I loved this book more than some of my friends that have read it. I wanted to see how he went from being singular to caring with all his heart, mind, body, and soul about someone else. The journey that he and Corinne took was slow and methodical which was exactly what was expected. Corinne was the perfect mate for Hunter because she was scarred, scared, and fighting to get back to normal after her ordeal. Their passion once it ignited was off the charts and healing to both of them. Oh I also love who said I love you first!(There are things that I loved that would be considered spoilers so leaving them out.)What I Liked: This book had a great balance of romance and action with most of the action coming from the other members of The Order. We got to see a lot of forward story in this book with Dragos, The Order, and the issues Chase (Harvard) is dealing with. While at times, I thought it overwhelmed Hunter/Corinne's story at this point in the series I thought it was necessary. Since I love series and story arches it really worked for me.Complaints: I could have used a little more time with Hunter/Corinne after the passion ignited but sometimes something has to give. Why I gave it a 4.25: I finished this book in a day and half squeezing it in between work, working out, book club, and other obligations. I feel it was a great addition to the series.
