About this audiobook

Sydney Sage is an Alchemist, one of a group of humans who dabble in magic and serve to bridge the worlds of humans and vampires. They protect vampire secrets-and human lives.

In The Fiery Heart, Sydney risked everything to follow her gut, walking a dangerous line to keep her feelings hidden from the Alchemists.

Now in the aftermath of an event that ripped their world apart, Sydney and Adrian struggle to pick up the pieces and find their way back to each other. But first, they have to survive.

For Sydney, trapped and surrounded by adversaries, life becomes a daily struggle to hold on to her identity and the memories of those she loves. Meanwhile, Adrian clings to hope in the face of those who tell him Sydney is a lost cause, but the battle proves daunting as old demons and new temptations begin to seize hold of him. . . .

Their worst fears now a chilling reality, Sydney and Adrian face their darkest hour in this heart-pounding fifth installment in the New York Times bestselling Bloodlines series, where all bets are off.

I LOVED this book and I LOVE this series!

I can confidently say that this is my favorite of the "Bloodlines" series so far.[SPOILERS BELOW]I would definitely say, though, that the first third or half of the book would have been much improved by shortening Adrian's chapters. I seriously considered skipping them. I was so anxious to get to Sydney, and Adrian was boring at best and annoying at worst. What was up with him? He was acting like Sydney was dead! I was really frustrated with him. How could he think that attempting to find her in a dream a couple of times a day was good enough? I would think checking hourly, with Sonya and Lissa taking a few shifts, would have been much more effective. He really would have had to get lucky for his method to have worked. Of course, ultimately, he did. But he could have made contact sooner. Now, Sydney's chapters, I loved. I'm really interested in psychology and Sydney's "re-education" is very reminiscent of old-fashioned methods of treating mental disabilities. It was sufficiently creepy and infuriating, and I was cheering Sydney on the whole way. Although, there were a couple of times I got frustrated with her as well... The first time she thinks she'll be able to get drug-free sleep and realizes that they drug all of the inmates at night, my first thought was that she could try sleeping during their hour of reading time. Granted, maybe they're not allowed to and that time must be used for reading, but the fact that she didn't even think about it annoyed me. Later, I think it was when they were starting their attempt to get a Pavlovian response out of her and she took forever to figure out what they wanted her to say. She's been great at thinking like an Alchemist when she needs to up to and after this point, but for an inexplicable reason, her brain was working really slowly in that moment and it took some extreme pain for her to finally get those gears turning. It just seemed uncharacteristic to me.Once Adrian got out of his slump, both sides kept me invested in the story and I loved the continuation and conclusion of it. I can't wait to read the next and final book!Side note: I'm assuming Hopper will have something to do in the next book? Isn't he supposed to help or warn Sydney or something? I feel like he hasn't done anything but be adorable yet.*Review written September 15, 2016.*

Book crack. This series (and the original Vampire Academy series) is total book crack for me. Not sure if it's really a four-star book, or if that's just my inner junky making her opinion known. Either way, I gobbled it up in one sitting, because Adrian.

I wanted to read this because I love this series and Richelle Mead is one of my favorite authors with her YA series. I am so happy that Adrian found someone he loves and that loves him back regardless of their "species" her being human/alchemist and him being a Moroi (vampire). In their culture this is frowned upon. I read a recap on Recaptains but Silver Shadows did a good job of reminding me what happened and who is who. It was a pretty natural way too. It was really hard in this one because Sydney and Adrian are separated, and Sydney is going through torture to be reformed by the Alchemists who jerked her from Palm Springs where she had actually made friends, but worst of all in their eyes, she had fell in love with a vampire. They did all sorts of things like sensory deprivation and Pavlovian conditioning in hopes to bring her back to being so wary, almost hating the Moroi and dhampirs. Sydney keeps Adrian and their memories on her own private reel and thinks about the center will hold. Adrian falls back into drinking to numb himself but tries so many times to find her in her dreams, but he never can and gets increasingly depressed and frustrated. He has a surprise visitor and has decisions to make about getting himself together or making another hard choice. I saw so much more character growth in him while still keeping his personality. He also demonstrated a very real issue-- that with depression sometimes big events can cause you to slip into bad habits. I loved the course of the story and how competent Sydney is and that she doesn't lose her head. She fights and remembers the center will hold. She also makes allies and friends and the way that she sneaks and obtains stuff she needs, as well as being resourceful without her amulets and other magical tools that could help. And the ending, break my heart now. I loved where the plot took them and that they had some glimpses of getting things on track when bam. Ms Mead drops a big one and then its over. I loved it though and will certainly finish the series because I love the characters, the actions, the real emotions, the romance and plot turns. Bottom Line: Another fantastic book in a series with characters and a romance that I love.

Please note that this review has to have spoilers especially for The Fiery Heart. If you haven't read that yet, what are you waiting for? In the beginning of this book the story is told in alternate chapters from Sydney and Adrian's point of view. Sydney has been captured by the Alchemists and sent to a hidden compound for re-education that begins with being thrown almost naked into a dark, cold cell where she is fed little and is constantly bombarded with messages to confess her "sins" and repent. She is also dosed with drugs to make her sleep and drugs to make her anxious. Adrian is left in Palm Springs where he tries to connect with Sydney in dreams and gets more and more depressed when he can't. He turns back to his old crutch alcohol to battle the depression. When Sydney is moved from solitary confinement to the more open areas where she can interact with other detainees, she begins to plot and plan a way to get out of there. She never loses faith that Adrian will find her. But Adrian goes off track for a while when he is brought back to Court and spends quite a bit of time binge drinking. This is partially brought on because no one at Court knows how much he loves Sydney and no one feels the need to do anything to rescue her. They do finally manage to connect in dreams but Sydney has no idea where she is. It is up to Marcus, Adrian and others to find her and find a plan to rescue her. But the Alchemists have no desire to let her go and are willing to go to great lengths to keep Sydney and to keep her away from Adrian. And, of course, this book ends doesn't end happily ever after for any of the characters. Adrian and Sydney are in a place of relative safety but other characters we have come to know and love are still in great danger. This is an excellent series and this is a heart-wrenching and heart-warming episode.

OMG you guys. Seriously this book is so amazing. I sill can’t get over it!!Plot: This story carries on where the last book left on. If you have not read the Bloodlines series then what are you waiting for? GO and read it. Also, you don’t have to read the VA series either. The plot moves rather quickly and changes pov between Syndey/Adrian. Both pov flow well with plenty of drama. Believe me when I say you’ll love it.Syndey/Adrian: Because of their current position both struggle a lot. I admit that I was a bit mad at Adrian with his behavior but I forgave him at the end. All I have to say about Syndey is that girl is strong. She kept her head up, no matter what she went through, believing till the end.Ending: This ending is seriously like no other. EPIC!! When I was reading the last few chapters I was giggling, smiling ear to ear and of course, taking every page in like my favorite ice cream. Seriously soooo good! Even now while writing this I can’t stop smiling.I want more. This story has just hit another point where I can not get enough. Silver Shadows takes it to a whole other level. The love, the fighting, the drama all leading up to one surprising ending!!

This is the fifth book in the Bloodlines series. There are six books planned in this series. The sixth book, The Ruby Circle, is scheduled for a February 2015 release. This was probably the most painful and frustrating book of this series, but it was also one of the best.I listened to this on audiobook, and like all the audiobooks in this series, it was incredibly well done. This is definitely one of those series I recommend listening to on audiobook if you enjoy audiobooks.Sydney has been sent to Re-education at a secret Alchemist facility. There she is subjected to torture and brain-washing. But Sydney has become a lot stronger throughout this series and even though she is terrified, she works to escape. Adrian has sunk into a deep Spirit-induced depression after his many attempts to reach Sydney through dream walking have failed. Still he will not give up trying to find Sydney no matter what the cost. This is probably the most painful book of this series so far. However, it ended up being a very good book even if there were times when I absolutely wanted to strangle Adrian. This book is one of those books where the characters are put through a ton of painful experiences. This book definitely showcases how much Sydney has grown and changed since the first book. You can tell Adrian has grown as well, but there were still parts of the book where I wanted to smack Adrian and tell him to get his moody depressed butt in gear.We learn a ton about re-education and more about the internal working of the Alchemists. We also get to see Sydney wield some serious magic and are given a glimpse into how incredibly powerful Adrian's Spirit Magic is.There are a ton of new characters, pretty much everyone Sydney meets in Re-education is new to the story. They were all well done and enjoyable to read about. We also get to read about a lot of characters we have meet throughout the series. Rose is in the story a bit and Lissa as well. We finally meet Adrian’s mom and spend time with his dad too.I was disappointed that the story ends on yet another awful cliffhanger. However, that just seems to be how Mead likes to write her books. So you have been warned. I was also a bit disappointed that this book is almost entirely about Sydney and Adrian’s drama; any other storylines or issues have taken a backseat to this drama.Overall this was an excellent continuation of the series and I am dying to see what happens next. Although this is one of the most painful books in this series, it was also a really darn good one. This whole series, along with the Vampire Academy series, is strongly recommended if you enjoy reading paranormal YA books.
