- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5There was some great advice in here about habit setting, but every so often she'd come out with a study that I knew factually to be not quite the way she was presenting it* and that really thew it for me. It's a great general motivational book and definitely a good one to listen to while you're doing the dishes or driving to work, but take the science with a pinch of salt - the author is apparently fine with fudging the facts for a more compelling read. This doesn't mean the bulk of the book isn't good, because overall it's a good and well informed piece based on good understanding of the subject, but don't assume everything you hear is true.
*For instance, there's a famous study into conformity, which showed that the majority of people would willingly give a false answer if the group they were in gave that answer first. However, this study was done on young men during 1951 America ("are you now, or have you ever been, a member of the communist party?") when going against the grain was the absolute most dangerous thing you could do. As such, the study has been repeated and has found that, whilst women still tend to give the wrong answer if the group does, young men will not, thus debunking the original study and throwing the findings of the new study into a grey light of "it's complicated." This criticism and repeat of the study is as famous as the study itself, and is commonly learned in first year psych, so I find it very hard to believe that the author didn't know this when she quoted the original one.
