About this audiobook

Wild Invitation is an exciting collection of Psy/Changeling stories from New York Times bestselling author Nalini Singh.

In Beat of Temptation, innocent Tamsyn has always had a place in her heart for Nathan, a blooded DarkRiver sentinel. But is she ready for the fierce demands of the mating bond?

In Stroke of Enticement, a wary young teacher, skeptical about love, arouses the man-and the animal-in an aggressive leopard changeling who must prove his affections are true.

The collection also features two never-before-published novellas:

In Declaration of Courtship, Grace, a shy submissive wolf, finds herself pursued by the last man she ever would have imagined: a SnowDancer lieutenant said to be "mad, bad, and dangerous to know."

In Texture of Intimacy, SnowDancer healer Lara discovers the searing joys-and unexpected challenges-of being mated to quiet, powerful Walker, a man used to keeping his silence.

As a speed reader, I normally avoid short stories anthologies as they are so easily forgotten for me. However, this book provides depth to my beloved Psy-Changling series and was well worth the read.

Beat of Temptation takes us to a younger Tamsyn and Nate, telling the story Tamsyn's wait for their bonding that she was so ready for at a young age.

Stroke of Enticement was a beautiful read of the seemingly more fragile human Annie and the strong changling Zach. Annie's true strength glowed throughout as she trusted in her immediate feelings for Zach.

Declaration of Courtship focused on the dominate and submission qualities of two Snow Dancer wolves. Cooper is a dominate Lieutenant and Grace is a very submission - to the point of perhaps never allowing this relationship to blossom. It was wonderful to watch the story unfold, and see how important the submissive characters are to the pack.

Texture of Intimacy gives us more of the Lara and Walker relationship that we wanted from the Kiss of Snow. Great to have the backstory.

I've read the first two stories before and I really liked them. I love Psy-Changeling world. Declaration of Courtship is a nice story about an extremely dominant wolf and his complete opposite. Cooper and Grace are great characters and the story takes place before Tangle of Need since Riaz is mentioned and he isn't involved with anyone.
I loved Texture of Intimacy. It takes place after the battle with the Pure Psy army. Walker and Lara are together, but there are still things which have to be resolved because Walker's Silence is strong and he is still waking up expecting his happiness to be a dream. Beautiful story.

I read this anthology a bit too soon in the series so I got spoiled on some things that happen later on in the series. But it was more of who "mates" with who stuff and not too much in what happens in the overall story arc. The first half of the collection is fine to read by the time I read it but the last two stories were where the spoilers were. Granted one gave away the plot of the book that I am reading now since I am way ahead of what I am actually posting about. More good fluffy reading I just need to have read it further down the list than where I read it.

This gets on so many shelves because there are so many of the elements that make me like these themes in the stories in this book. I had already read the first two but it is nice to have them all collected together. They're all great!!

In Beat of Temptation, there is so much delicious angst! Tamsyn wants so much to be with Nathan and he pushes her away. A nice Big Misunderstanding where she is tormented by the idea that he doesn't want her! I love this stuff!! (4.5 stars)

Stroke of Enticement is my favorite Psy-Changling short story, and one of my favorite stories overall. Chubby, disabled, spinsterish schoolteacher being charmed by a hunky leopard? And an insensitive mom to boot? Right up my alley!!! (5 stars)

Declaration of Courtship has a bit of the angstish tension I love too, with submissive Grace feeling unsure of herself and sexy Cooper drawing her in. (3.5 stars)

Texture of Intimacy is a sweet look at Walker and Lara's relationship, which was a nice epilogue to the bits and pieces of their story that we've gotten across the books (3 stars)

Declaration of Courtship was my favorite!

BEAT OF TEMPTATION tells the story of the courtship of Nate and Tamsyn. It was filled with heartaches and misunderstandings. Nate was determined to give Tamsyn freedom because she was so young and he was so much older. It took quite a while for her to convince him that the only freedom she wanted was the freedom to love him. It was nice to get a look at the past of a couple of my favorite characters.STROKE OF ENTICEMENT introduced me to characters that I didn't know. Zach is a soldier for the DarkRiver pack and Annie is a human school teacher. He sees her and recognizes her as his mate but she, having seen her parent's unhappy marriage, is determined to live independently and alone. Annie can't resist Zach's humor and caring and heart. Once she knows that he is all in, she opens her heart to him.DECLARATION OF COURTSHIP is Grace and Cooper's story. Cooper is a pack lieutenant and very dominant. Grace is an engineer and very submissive. She has to convince her wolf that she has something to offer Cooper and not just submit to him instinctively. Cooper is so used to being dominant that he can't bring himself to share his recurring nightmares with Grace. This lack of sharing makes their mating go much more slowly than it should. Both have to have complete trust in the other before they can become mates.TEXTURE OF INTIMACY tells the story of the mating of Lara and Walker. Lara is a healer and Walker is a Psy who fled to SnowDancer with his daughter, niece and nephew when they were threatened with rehabilitation. Walker is a telepath who learned to counterfeit the silent, emotionless state of the Psy while hiding his intense love and protectiveness toward his family. Open hearted Lara has to deal with a man who is just learning that showing his emotions won't put his family in danger.I loved all of these story that talk about the courtship and matings of various couples in the changeling part of the Psy-Changeling universe. Each story was well-written and emotionally intense. Fans of the series won't want to miss these novellas.

    Listening to audiobook.

I really enjoyed these short stories. In this anthology, we get to visit two couples from the series that we are very familiar with (Nate & Tammy along with Walker & Lara). There are also two new couples that we haven't met in previous books. One from Dark River and one from Snow Dancer. I loved all the stories, but I think it was Walker and Lara's that was my favorite. I just love the Laurens. I'm not usually a big fan of the Psy, but this family is great.

I look at this book as a "tide me over" until we get the Ghost's story. I can't wait. :)

I had read Zach & Annie's story before but decided to read it a second time. I love both of the characters and you get a little snap shot of Dark River.

Cooper & Grace's story was new for me. I actually liked it better than the Lara & Walker story. I kept thinking back to Drew and Indigo and how the dominance issues worked there so much different but yet, issues with who is on top and how much more dominate one was.

The Lara & Walker story was good but... I just felt it was an insight into Snow Dancers, not so much about the romance between them. It starts from the Kiss of Snow period of time. In kiss of snow, you get their romance and how they get together. This just solidifies it a little more as a family. That and you get to see some of the others and how they are doing. It was more like deleted scenes from Kiss of Snow because the book would be too long and would make the center of that book even more skewed from the main relationship. It wasn't a story but an addition.

I read Nate & Tammy's story recently so I didn't read it here. It is very good also.

All the novellas are worth reading if you are a Psy-changeling fan and you will like some better than others.

I remember reading Nalini Singh's first Psy-changeling book, thinking the genre was off my beaten path and it was slow to start. I stuck with the first one and now, I am a complete fan. I think she creates fantastic worlds, honest characters and stories that are compelling. This is a great anthology to read while waiting for the June 2013 release of her latest book... and a good way to test out and see if the genre is for you.
