About this audiobook

In the dark of night, a blood war escalates within the hidden world of the Breed. After existing in secret for many long centuries, maintaining a fragile peace with the humans who walk beside them unaware, a single act of retaliation has put the entire vampire nation at risk of discovery. It falls to the Order-a cadre of Breed warriors pledged to protect their own and humankind alike-to stop Dragos, the power-mad vampire at the center of the conflict, before his push for domination can explode into catastrophe. At the center of the Order's quest is Sterling Chase, once a morally rigid enforcer of Breed law, now a warrior fallen from grace, whose biggest battle is the one he wages against his own savage nature. With addiction beckoning him toward eternal darkness, Chase's path to redemption has never seemed more out of reach-until he finds himself drawn to a beautiful young woman who may be something much more than she seems...

Absolutely loved this book! Favorite in the series!Adrian did an awesome job with this one! The story was action packed and fast paced. I love how she brings the others relationships into this novel, especially Lucan and Gabrielle. The new character, Tavia Fairchild, adds a definite twist to the story. She's not the typical soft heroine that Adrian has used in her previous books. It's worth the read! One of those books where you can't put it down.Definitely my new favorite.Sorry I'm really tired this review is bad. My full review is up on my tumblr: CarlisleCullenLover

    Synopsis
After placing the entire Breed race at risk of discovery, Dragos is on the offensive and the warriors are playing catch up. At the heart of the conflict are Sterling Chase, a warrior struggling against his bloodlust, and Tavia Fairchild, a young woman who is not what she seems. Together Chase and Tavia will have to accept their true natures if they are to defeat Dragos before he unleashes hell on earth.

    Review
A satisfying conclusion to the existing story lines.

Chase and Tavia's romance is hot and heavy but definitely not the best in the series. Chase has always been an ambiguous character for me, and while his HEA is well deserved and quite rewarding, his redemption is nonetheless not as convincing as it could have been. He seems to overcome all obstacles far too quickly and conveniently. Tavia's character is extremely interesting but I don't want to give too much away, so suffice it to say that she is strong, independent and kick-ass (I particularly enjoyed the way in which she contributes to Dragos's downfall).

The scenes involving the entire Breed warrior "family" are a definite highlight. It is very gratifying to see everyone together even if it is a little saccharin sweet. Some of the newer characters such as Lazaro, Kellan, Nathan and Mira are compelling and I am eager to see where Adrian takes them.

While the plot includes several cliched and predictable moments, the development of Dragos's reign of terror and his ultimate demise is action packed and thrilling with some surprising twists. The ending feels a little rushed but the hints at future stories are intriguing and Adrian establishes a compelling new mythology that will make a good foundation on which to build the next installments.

In sum, a worthwhile read for those who are lovers of the Breed.

Paranormal Romance. Midnight Breed 10. Chase gives himself up to the police so the rest of the Breed warriors can escape. Tavia works for the senator that is ensorcelled by Dragos. OK-

Another great installment in this series. I've been waiting to read Chase's story since he was first introduced. He was such an intriguing character to me, and I'm glad that his story was told well.

We saw a lot more action in this book than we've seen in past ones, which was very welcome. The story finally moved forward -- and holy hell, did it.

I'm a little confused if this is the last book or not. I'm not sure where else she would go with it, but I thought that this plot point wrapped up fairly quickly in the book and could have been stretched out a bit more. It was a lot of build up for a very fast and perfect ending (complete with babies! From freaking EVERYONE! I found it odd (and convenient) that so many of the couples wanted children after less than a year together, especially when their time is measured in such huge increments.).

This is the latest of the series and I believe that it is the best. We have spent a long time getting to know the backstory and the lead-in to Chase's slide down. Lucan we see approaching bloodlust and Tegan we hear how he did fall in the past. But here we see the tipping point that Chase faces.

Adrian has done and excellent job throughout the series in foreshadowing and plot development. She is an excellent writer and this novel is no exception.

I am deeply satisfied. For now. Yet, I am dying to see where the author goes now.

I really enjoyed this book and this series. I've read that this is the last of the Midnight Breed series and it was a good ending if that is the case. I've read some great series that ending leaving a lot unfinished. I will say that this story ends with a great end of a series and great spinoff is possible. I'm interested to see where Ms. Adrian goes next.

When I started reading this I had the fear. The feeling that I was reading yet another vampire romance where pretty helpless female is saved by bulky oversexed male. Nope, parts of this are here but I loved this story, once Tavia realises what is going on in the world and where she fits in, she becomes pretty awesome. While I reallly enjoyed the read, the end felt a bit rushed and things were glossed over a bit, but it was an interesting read. Looking forward to seeing more of Tavia.

Chase is in jail having sacrificed his freedom in the last book when he’d tried to kill Dragos at a party and everyone assumes he’d been trying to kill a senator. Letting himself be taken into custody and admitting to crimes he didn’t commit keeps attention off of the Order and allows them to relocate after Dragos had learned where their headquarters are. He doesn’t intend to stay long, but breaks out sooner when he realizes the senator is one of Dragos’ minions and the senator’s assistant is in danger. Tavia is in police protection after the senator is killed and she's afraid of the escaped psychopath that warned her of danger when she viewed him in a police line-up. So she's not so trusting when the guy claims to be trying to protect her after killing a police guard and knocking out two agents when he kidnaps her from a hotel. She'd always had health issues and requires medication every 8 hours and has never gone so long without it. It turns out she's not who or what she thought and that her entire life has been a lie.One of the things I really like about this series is that even though each book is a romance, the back story is incredibly important and moves forward with each book. This is the one we've been waiting for. Things come to a head in the Order's fight against Dragos and the story is loaded with action. I loved that aspect of the book as well as knowing the series will continue with new challenges already set up in this story. We also see Lucan's struggle with unfolding events that he fears will change the world forever. While I love what took place in the story and am excited to see the direction the series will be taking after this, I had a difficult time with the romance aspect. It felt kind of flat to me as I couldn’t connect with Tavia; it’s important for me to get into the head of the female in a romance. She just didn’t feel real. Chase saved the day, though, with his struggle against falling into bloodlust and his relationship in the Order. I was able to feel through him. Do not attempt to read this without reading prior books in the series. You could, but there is so much history from prior books that you won’t feel the full impact of what’s taking place now.

Darker After Midnight is the tenth and most recent book in Lara Adrian's Midnight Breed series. Picking up where the last full-length novel concluded, readers follow Chase into police custody, and watch at the Order is forced to relocate in the midst of major personal obstacles. The romance of the novel is consistent with the rest of the series, as is most of the plot, but the resolutions that Adrian offers makes this by far the most satisfying novel yet. While many authors of this genre will string readers along with the promise of an earth-shattering event, Adrian actually follows through. For that, Darker After Midnight well-deserves four stars and a strong recommendation for readers of the genre.

** spoiler alert ** Read for FunChallenge: Read for FunOverall Rating: 4.50Story Rating: 4.25Character Rating: 4.75First thought when Finished: The game has changed in so many ways! What I Loved: Chase and Tavia might be my favorite couple in the Midnight Breed series or at least tied with Brock and Jenna! Their story was emotionally gripping and while there was A LOT happening in this story--their romance was at the very core. I also loved the fast and furious amount of information that was coming to us from all directions. Perhaps the reason this one really pulled at me was that we got more on Jenna too. I was just very much pleased with this entry into the series. What I Liked: We got to see all of the Order, their mates, and even the children. I think the children will start to take focus because really all this change will directly impact their growing up. It is a whole new world! What made me go huh? The biggest thing with Chase was his bloodlust. He has been fighting it since he has been introduced to the series. For it to be dealt with in that year that was not in the book was kind of disappointing. I just felt the whole end: dealing with being uncovered, the bloodlust, the poison, and the pregnancies were all just a little rushed for my taste :(Final Thoughts: This was a game changer and I can't wait to see where it heads from here!Favorite Moments:“We may be done here, but this night doesn’t mark the end of anything. It’s only the beginning. Dragos wants a war with the Order? Then, by God, he’s damn well got it.”“My life is inside that clinic. This could be the only chance I have to learn who, and what, I really am. If there are others like me, they deserve the truth too.”“You gave me truth, Chase. You have from the very beginning. You’ve opened my eyes. I may not like everything I see, but it’s real and it’s honest and I feel like I’m finally alive. You’ve given me all of that.”
