- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Narrator is amazing. Amazing book. Start to a great series.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5I love this style of writing easy to imagine!Great Read/Listen!"*****out of*****"
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Had me till the end.. Ending definitely leaves you hanging especially if there are no sequels... I mean there had to be a better way to tie it all together.... just sayin
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5A 16 year old sophomore is being cast as protagonist of this post apocalyptic tale. Zach is a typical teen ( Smarty Pants) who was picked up by elderly man after the death of his grandmother to shield him from the misery of child Protected services. The elderly man , Red, happened to be one of those who stocked up food and supplies believing that Zombies will one day rule the world. Long story Short, a flue like disease spread across the planet, first reported in the Middle East and within weeks, the world had been engulfed in never ending chaos. This is the story of Zach learning survival skills in a world infested with the undead.
I enjoyed the audiobook but I’m not fan of cocky Zach. His know-it-all portrayal is unbelievable in certain situations. You might it proficient in general knowledge, but you can’t be an expert in negotiations, psychology, medicine, animal behavior and, army tactics .. It is impossible. There are some misogynistic behaviors which is expected in a world full of men. The world has descended into an era in which laws do not exist and those who are stronger take it all.
Nevertheless, I’m excited for this series as I found it depicting the post apocalyptic world realistically without sugar coating and politically correcting the aftermath. - Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Very well done and seemed based in reality even for a zombie novel.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5I like this kind of zombie action, because the hero is proactive instead of reactive. He's planning things out. I see a lot of reviews complaining about misogynistic writing. I won't dispute that. I even enjoyed it. :)
For me, to use the old cliche, the pages turned themselves. I've already picked up and started the second book in the series. - Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5When I first purchased "Zombie Rules" by David Achord, I did so after reading the description posted on a book marketing website and did not know it was part of a series. I very seldom read reviews before downloading a book because I am normally drawn in by the book cover and the story description.I enjoyed reading this book, for the most part, as the story showed more interaction between the characters and their struggles for survival during the zombie apocalypse - very similar to the television "Walking Dead Series". Our main protagonist, Zack, is only 16 years old but comes across much older and wiser for his age. Sure, they ran into zombies and living thieves on occasion, fighting to protect themselves and what they had - at times, it appeared like there was no way out and characters were going to die. Some do!Zombie Rules is entertaining, engaging and a roller coaster ride for readers once you get started. I do have some criticism about the author, David Achord's writing style. There aren't many typos, but extra words exist throughout the book - as if an editor forgot to delete them after making corrections. Also, I found myself stopping on occasion because something the author wrote raised a flag, kind of like, 'wait a minute, didn't he say something different earlier'? I love the old beekeeper - reminds me of Yoda in the Star Wars series. The ending left me deflated when it suddenly stopped! And the two chapter preview sample afterwards had nothing to do with the story I just finished - not offering any hints as to how the story continues. I would have guessed that any author who leaves readers hanging like that SHOULD have included something to satisfy readers and not move them to an entirety different story that he published. Now after reading the reviews I find there are two more books on Amazon for this continuing story. You have me hooked David, and I did purchase the next two Kindle books to see how the story progresses. I hope I am not disappointed!John Podlaski, authorCherries - A Vietnam War Novel
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5I must say I was pleasantly surprised by this book. Given that it was written by a former military man, I figured it would have more tech speak than it did, which I am glad of. Don't get me wrong, I like those too, but it was a nice change of pace. I would recommend this to anyone looking for a good read without all of the gore. Flowed very smoothly, too!
