Shayla Black
Shayla Black is the New York Times and USA Today bestselling author of more than seventy novels. For over twenty years, she’s written contemporary, erotic, paranormal, and historical romances via traditional, independent, foreign, and audio publishers. Her books have sold millions of copies and been published in a dozen languages. Raised an only child, Shayla occupied herself with lots of daydreaming, much to the chagrin of her teachers. In college, she found her love for reading and realized that she could have a career publishing the stories spinning in her imagination. Though she graduated with a degree in Marketing/Advertising and embarked on a stint in corporate America to pay the bills, her heart has always been with her characters. She’s thrilled that she’s been living her dream as a full-time author for the past ten years. Shayla currently lives in North Texas with her wonderfully supportive husband and two spoiled tabbies. In her “free” time, she enjoys reality TV, reading, and listening to an eclectic blend of music.

- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5I think this might be the first time I have given a Shayla Black book less than 5 stars. I liked this book, but it is really more porn than romance. I throw around that porn designation a lot, but here I really mean it. Apparently I do know it when I see it. Being porn is not necessarily a bad thing, but for me, with a little more story this would have been even more fun. In the other books people talk, but in Surrender to Me the characters are either having sex, fighting, or being all angsty in a largely solitary manner. I liked these characters, and they seemed really smart and appealing so a little fun banter would have gone a long way. Still, I really liked this book, so if you are looking for a scorching hot BDSM light sex fest, this is your proper destination
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Really liked this one, but I have to admit being a little skittish about the BDSM point taken in the plot. But as the story progressed I became a little more relaxed about the whole thing and I could enjoy the story more fully. I loved all that off the charts chemistry between Hunter and Kata and I'll definitely be reading the other books in the series.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5I am not sure which of these two characters I want to shake more Katalina “Kata” Munoz or Hunter Edgington. They are both equally to blame for the mess they make of this relationship. The story starts out simple enough. Boy comes to Las Vegas to provide the third in girl’s fantasy of a ménage. Boy sees girl and falls for her, seeing a quality that she has never seen in herself. Things go downhill from there. The guy that set up the fantasy gets drunk and passes out before the ménage can take place. So the boy takes the girl and shows her that she is a submissive which girl can’t accept. She won’t listen to what the boy has to say and boy is determined that he won’t give up and let her go.This is one argument after another. Hunter is a Dominant down to his soul. He has wanted a woman that would submit to him but have a spirit and strength to stand up to him. Hunter is also all the things that are part of being an alpha male. He is protective, possessive, caring and loving. He is loyal to those he cares about and honorable to a fault. He has a hard time coming to terms with the betrayal of someone that he considered a friend. He doesn't seek glory or recognition for the bravery and selflessness that he displays. He has turned down several promotions because he prefers the field to setting behind a desk. He is also scarred by the desertion of his mother and what he sees as his father’s failure to hang on to the woman that his father so obviously loved. While Hunter does over power Kata with pleasure he tries very hard to take care of her. He does all he can to keep her safe when her life is threatened and he finally realizes that the only way to make Kata happy is to let her go.Kata is so badly scarred from watching her mother being bullied by her step father she isn't willing to give Hunter a chance. Don’t get me wrong Kata is a strong, intelligent and compassionate woman. She is, however, easily swayed by others in her family. She wants so badly for her mother to leave her stepfather that she will do almost anything to make that happen. Kata has kept her heart safe by dating men that she can control and in doing so has been less than satisfied sexually. She has never found anyone that can really satisfy her needs. She is overwhelmed by Hunter and her self-confidence is not strong enough to realize that she can have what she needs and still stay the person that she is. It takes losing Hunter to make her realize that she needs to overcome her hang ups in order to make things work between the two of them.It takes almost the entire book for these two to work out their differences. I will warn that there is bondage, spanking, toys and over the top steaming hot sex throughout this story. This is a much more hardcore story than the last two. Hunter and Jack are very much alike and I loved it. It was nice to see Jack and Morgan again as well as Deke and Kimber. We are treated to mention of Deke and Kimber having their child, a boy.We also get a quick update on Luc and Alyssa. Finally you might want to keep the tissues handy there are some really sad parts in this story it is an emotional roller coaster for most of the book. I did enjoy that story and I hated having to put the book down. The subplot of who is trying to kill Kata was intriguing and I didn't guess who the bad guy really was until the end. Ms. Black as a talent for introducing enough villains to keep you wondering who the real one is right up to the very end of the book.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Surrender to Me was Shayla Black’s #4 book in her Wicked Lovers series. About the book (Cover):A secret fantasy.Hunter had everything until a bullet put his career as a Navy SEAL on hold. Restless and in need of distraction, he accepts an intriguing proposition. Restless and uncertain about his future, he accepts an intriguing proposition: share an acquaintance’s girlfriend and fulfill her fantasy of a ménage. It should have been just a night of sexual adventure between three consenting adults. But Kata is like no other girl Hunter has ever met. By turns audacious and sexy, then vulnerable and aloof, she’s a heartbreaker he’s determined to master. But he needs more than one night. And he wants to do it alone. An uncontrollable obsession.Kata never expected to leave her comfortable relationship and explore something so dangerously forbidden with a stranger. Hard as she tries to resist, the guilty pleasure overwhelms her, and she surrenders herself, inch by inch, to the hardcore man who wants her for himself. Consumed by blazing desire, they’re soon threatened by the shadows of the past. And now to keep Kata safe, Hunter makes her a bold proposition of his own. Saying yes will destroy her heart. But saying no could cost Kata her life.Review:I have to say THIS book was soooooooooooo good. I was a bit worried, despite being very into this series if we would hit the fevered pitch again and we sure as hell did. Hunter … *dreamy sigh* is phenomenal in this book and I loved Kata to death. This match is definitely a pair made in heaven.Hunter is brought into the scene when one of his friends asks him to take part in a ménage with he and his “friends with benefits” partner. One drink too many later and there the friend is passed out and there Hunter and Kata are with so much sexual tension it is unreal. The book progresses quite interestingly, especially with the threat on her life, the shocker in between and the unbelievable instance at the end, that leaves you turning the pages and wanting so much more. I loved the back ground on both and how they had to come together to overcome their issues. There were never any dull moments in the book and despite this being the fourth of the series, it does NOT disappoint. I give it 5 out of 5 stars.
