Charles St.Austel, an ex-secret agent, has retired to his Cornwall home to escape the ton and the marriage minded mothers. He's also supposed to investigate rumours of spies near his home as well. The first thing he finds is Lady Penelope Selborne, neighbour and ex-lover. She's been avoiding him for years but he finds that his heart beats as strongly for her and although she is still avoiding him he thinks he might have a chance if tries hard enough.Fun regency romp with a fair bit of sex and espionage.

I've always loved books from Stephanie Laurens. Jill Tanner telling this story was absolute bliss

Exciting plot, but so much sex that the reader is eventually left quite exhausted.

Loved the story. It had a very good plot. Still can't get used to the narrator though. Her male voices sound like female ones. At times I couldn't tell whether Charles or Penny was talking.
Those of you who like Davina Porter will like this narrator though as she sounds very much like her. Although I've listened to all the Outlander books quite a few times with Davina Porter narrating, I'm not too keen on her either, not after listening to so many brilliant narrators, who are mostly males, and which I much prefer. But nevertheless I will be listening to the whole series of the Bastion club but only because they are included in my membership.

I love Charles's and Penny's story. I love have they had a thing from before and now they pick up again.
