Katie MacAlister

Growing up in a family where a weekly visit to the library was a given, Katie MacAlister spent much of her time with her nose buried in a book. When she was contracted to write a nonfiction book about software, her editor refused to allow her to include witty dialogue or love scenes, so Katie swiftly resolved to switch to fiction, in which she could indulge in world building, tormenting her characters, and falling madly in love with all her heroes. Her novels have been translated into numerous languages, been recorded as audiobooks, received several awards, and are regulars on the New York Times, USA TODAY, and Publishers Weekly bestseller lists. She also writes for the young adult audience as Katie Maxwell. Katie lives in the Pacific Northwest. You can visit her website at KatieMacAlister.com.

In this book Aisling keeps tryingto get married but her duties as a guardian and as a demon lord pull her away from one attempt, while her grooms duties as a dragon pull him away from another. The idea of the story is ok, but I find it difficult to understand why Aisling would want to marry her groom when he has a cave-man "I am he-man, I make all decisions" mentality. His secret-keeping attitude tends to create many unnecessary problems.

Aisling and Drake are trying to get married. Emphasis on trying. Anything that can go wrong, does. But it all leads to a happy and humorous ending.

Is it my imagination or Aisling Grey getting dumber in each installment of the series?

Yes this is funny, adventurous, interesting and romantic series (which I happen to enjoy for the most part), but sheesh....Aisling keeps walking blindly into dangerous situations, when she should obviously from past experience know that it's a BLOODY Trap! It would be nice if Aisling became Intelligent and sassy rather than smart-mouthed and sassy.

But then again, this is "chick-lit" and I shouldn't expect too much.

An unsatisfying conclusion to the "Aisling Grey, Guardian" series, there are too many characters (including new ones) with not enough to do. There are also loose ends aplenty, and it was in general an annoying book. If I read that Aisling "gritted her teeth" one more time I was going to scream! Jim's humor also wears thin in this volume.
All this won't stop me from continuing to MacAlister's next series, "Silver Dragons", which has some of the same characters!

Humor, chaos and a lot of boinking. That's three words that can describe any book about Aisling Grey. If you need light and funny paranormal romance, this is always a good choice.

I would be sorry that the series ended, but I have the next series about Silver dragons and Gabriel to keep me entertained.

Reviewed by JenHoly Smokes is the fourth and final book following the life and love of Aisling Grey (although I understand she and Drake will be pretty prominent characters in Katie MacAlister’s new Silver Dragons series). This is a series of books you have to read in order for them to make any sort of sense. So, here’s the order: You Slay Me, Fire Me Up, Light My Fire.In this installment, Aisling and Drake are finally getting married, but as the book opens, Drake isn’t showing up for the ceremony. They do eventually make it to the altar, but nothing in Aisling’s life is ever done easily.I’ve been a big fan of this series since book one. They are full of humor and you can’t help but just shake your head at all the trouble Aisling gets herself into (think Lucille Ball from “I Love Lucy“). But there was something about this book that fell a little short for me. Aisling seemed to whine more than usual (or perhaps it’s only my memory since I read book three over a year ago). She didn’t seem to be herself and I kept waiting for someone to slap some sense into her. Oh how I wish I could give this particular book a better review since I loved the previous ones. It did have a happy ending and left lots of questions unanswered that will hopefully be tackled in the new series.

This is a funny, laugh out-loud romantic comedy series. I've enjoyed them all. Warning to the faint at heart, there is sex and lots of dream loving. The dragons are interesting and the idea of being in control of keeping the evil from entering our world kept me interested, so did all the laws involving what a person could do or not do in the other world. The different roles taken by the members took a bit to follow, but I enjoyed this series. Katie MacAllister's writing is full of humor.

This is the fourth, and so far last, book in the Aisling Grey Guardian series. This book follows much in the same vein as the third book in the series. It is light, easy to read, and an entertaining story. Although there are strong aspects of romance to this book; I think fans of the paranormal genre who like action more than romance will also like this book. The book starts with Aisling getting stood up at the alter by Drake. Of course it's not Drake's fault. Again Aisling has many things coming at her from all directions. She is pregnant, they are at war with the red dragon clan, she has been proscribed and is trying to get rid of her dark powers, her guardian mentor-ship is on hold, and she has to perform duties for the blue dragon clan. All of this is complicated by her family being in town for the wedding. As with the other books, a lot happens in this book. I was happy that the plot was very finely crafted and all of the intertwining events made sense and were resolved. There are still some cliff hangers at the end of the book, but they have more to do with other characters than with Aisling and Drake.Aisling is a little bit less of an airhead in this book. She actually gets things done, as opposed to just screwing them up. Her and Drake make more progress towards a decent, modern-day relationship, so at least they aren't as messed up as in the previous books. Aisling, herself, is not my most favorite character but the side characters more than make up for her shortcomings.Previous to this book I said the third one in the series was my favorite, well now this one is my favorite in the series. I plan on reading the Silver Dragons series by Katie MacAlister too. These are fun books for a quick read when you want something light. They don't really overextend your brain and are a nice vacation from heavier reading.

Aisling gives new meaning to the saying "try and try again" as she and Drake attempt to get it together long enough to swap their marriage vows. Another very cute installment in the urban fantasy/paranormal romance series.Now....on to the part where I speak of spoilers! Reader Beware!!There were a couple things I just had to bring forward about my reading. One is, what the heck was up with the dream Aisling had about rescuing Drake? With Drake vehemently denying he sent it to her himself one would have thought this was a mystery to be solved. However, this little plot point trailed off without answer. I hate it when stories do that. Also had to mention my favorite LOL part when Jim regained his second shape as a small Scottish Terrier. A big difference from the Newfie form he was used to! It was just so cute to picture. "Fires of Abaddon, Ash! I wasn't done picking a form! I was just looking at this one! Oh, man, I'm a midget!" :-)

You will enjoy this book if you love a main character who "wonder[s] if there was ever going to be a time when she wasn't at least five paces behind everyone else, mentally speaking" (p.128) and additionally wonders if "[t]his is going to be another one of those days where people start talking about stuff like she knows what's going on, only she really doesn't, and she spends the whole time trying to catch up" (page 137). The author uses the main character's willful ignorance and deliberate stupidity as an excuse not to have a plot or character development. Even if this were the only book available to read, your time would be better spent balancing your checkbook or cleaning the toilet. This book gets a half star only because librarything doesn't have a system set up to give negative stars.

In which Aisling is pregnant, proscribed, almost makes it to the alter on multiple occasions, and can't shut her aunt up. On the plus side, Drake has finally admitted he loves her. As usual, she's continually getting into trouble. Maybe I'm tired, but this installment doesn't seem to have quite the zing and snap of the earlier Aisling. She's either sobbing, yelling, banishing poor Jim to Alkasha, or attacking Drake for hot steamy sex. The new characters are sort of flat -- Aunt Paula gives me a headache! It picks up somewhat at the end, but it just really felt as if MacAlister dashed this one off in a hurry.

Great fourth book in the series. Effrajim the demon is still the standout side-kick character and the hijinks that Aisling gets into as well as the romance are top notch in this book.
