    My thoughts:

I haven't read a Psy-changeling book since last years P-C frenzy and still it felt just like coming home when I opened this book. And it is also about the thing I love most about these books, changelings. The Psy are just so cold but in this book it is two changelings that fall in love and it is wild.

Drew is the tracker for the pack so he stands kind of outside the pack hierarchy. He is dominant but the question is how much? He has also always liked Indigo (awwwww) who is a lieutenant and therefore is above him in the hierarchy. She is also a dominant female and no one to mess with. I liked Drew, because he is charming and playful. I guess he must be cos of the things he does. Everyone likes him and yes I did fall at once too. Who would not? Indigo is different, hard but still approachable. Together they explode on the pages. But nothing is easy in the changeling universe and here the trouble is that she is dominant and 4 years older. He is hard to place in the hierarchy and she fears being with someone less dominant because that could make him resent her. So yes they have some issues to work through but the way to their HEA is just wonderful because Drew does not give up and I really adore his playful side.

But like with all books there is something bigger on the horizon. The Pure PSY group wants Silence stronger than ever and they are willing to kill every PSY who has flaws and those that protect them. The clock is also ticking for a bigger showdown and I sense it will be big and bad.

This is a great paranormal romance series and I feel so home in this world. It is familiar and at the same time not. If you want you can even jump straight into the middle and still feel the magic, but then you will miss all the great couples and who and what the PSY really are. Though I do confess to having not read the two books before this one.

    Conclusion:

I truly enjoyed Drew and Indigo's story. It was romantic, playful and hot. These two have truly sizzling passion burning between them. And I should not forget the small insights we got into Hawke's and Sienna's "relationship". What can I say, when I closed the book I really wanted the next one and to see how that turns out.

Try this series, you will not be sorry.

Play of Passion is the ninth full-length novel in Nalini Singh’s Psy-Changeling series. This one follows SnowDancer wolves Indigo and Drew. Indigo is a dominant female and a pack lieutenant, while Drew is the pack’s tracker. Drew has been crazy about Indigo for a while, but she’s been trying to keep their relationship friends-only. She worries that getting involved with a male who is both younger and less dominant could lead to disaster. But tired of waiting for her to come around, Drew pulls out all the stops to prove to Indigo that she’s the only wolf for him. Meanwhile, the threat from Pure Psy, the Psy faction that’s determined to maintain Silence no matter the cost, is rising, and Indigo and Drew discover evidence of a Psy incursion onto SnowDancer land. With the help of their alpha, Hawke, and the rest of the pack, they must figure out what the Psy’s new game is and stop it before serious damage is done, but a climactic battle with the Psy could put Indigo and Drew’s relationship in jeopardy before she’s even had a chance to decide whether Drew is her perfect mate after all.Indigo is the most dominant female in the SnowDancer den, and as a lieutenant, she’s one of Hawke’s right-hand people. The other wolves look to her for leadership, and cognizant of her role in the pack, she doesn’t allow skin privileges easily. She hasn’t had a lover for a while, so Drew’s flirtations are tempting. But she’s also keenly aware of the fact that Drew is four years her junior, and although as tracker, he’s not in her direct line of command, he’s a less dominant male. Indigo has spent the last several years watching her aunt, who is equally as dominant as Indigo, in an unhappy union with her mate who is less dominant. There’s a constant push and pull between them that has soured any love they once shared, so Indigo believes that in order to maintain the health of the pack, she must mate someone who is her equal in the pack hierarchy. However, she didn’t count on Drew pulling out all the stops to romance her and to prove that he’s willing to do anything to be with her, even reign in his own wolf. Indigo is a female who isn’t unlike human women who find themselves in powerful positions in a male-dominated world. She’s respected by the male members of the pack, but at the same time, she places a lot of responsibility on her own shoulders for making sure the pack is a healthy, functioning group. She knows that if she’s unhappy in her mating that could lead to disunity in the pack. While Drew is hard to resist, they do butt heads on occasion as they and their wolves try to figure out if they can fit together in harmony. Occasionally I felt just a tad frustrated with Indigo for being so stubborn, but I generally understood where she was coming from and the feeling usually didn’t last long before she was finding a way to compromise. I also very much respected the fact that she was willing to make concessions in order to find true love and happiness. As the pack’s tracker, Drew hunts down Changelings who’ve gone rogue and also deals with some pack business outside their immediate area. As such, he reports directly to Hawke, so there isn’t a conflict of interest with him getting involved with Indigo. Drew is also a real charmer who is popular with the ladies, both human and Changeling. But for a long time, he’s only had eyes for Indigo. Drew may not be dominant enough to maintain a higher position in the pack hierarchy, but he’s still a dominant male who finally decides to go after what he wants. Convincing Indigo that he’s sincere about a serious relationship proves to be a major challenge, but one that he’s more than up for. He screws up on occasion, making the female wolf snarl at him for his audacity, but he always more than makes up for it with a full-on romantic and sensual assault. However, just as he’s starting to make headway and thinks that Indigo might finally be his, Pure Psy invades their territory, threatening not only the pack but also his and Indigo’s future. Oh my goodness, I think Drew might be my favorite hero of the series so far. He may have a dominant side, but he’s also a real sweetheart, who totally wears his heart on his sleeve for Indigo. I love a hero in pursuit and Drew definitely pulls out all the stops in his pursuit of Indigo, holding nothing back. His courtship of her is swoon-worthy romance at its finest. Even though he knows he could be risking a broken heart if both the woman and the wolf don’t accept him, he’s also convinced that it will all be worth it. And he’s determined not to give up until he’s won them both over. It also doesn’t hurt that he’s an incredibly romantic guy and a passionate lover.;-)As is typical for this long-running series, Play of Passion has a stellar supporting cast with lots of characters past and future who have their own stories in the series. Pack alpha Hawke is the most prominent, and it’s obvious that although he’s fighting it, he’s still carrying a torch for Sienna, one of the Psy they adopted into their pack and a young woman who definitely has a thing for him, too. These two finally become the hero and heroine of the next full-length book, Kiss of Snow. Drew’s sister, Brenna, and her mate, Judd, (Caressed by Ice) are key players as well. Drew’s brother, Riley, and his mate, Mercy, (Branded by Fire) are away on a sort of honeymoon, but show up near the end of the story. Pack healer Lara’s skills are put to the test, saving someone’s life. She and Walker, who appears briefly, become the hero and heroine of the novella, Texture of Intimacy. DarkRiver alpha Lucas and his mate, Sascha, (Slave to Sensation) show up at the end, too. Dorian (Hostage to Pleasure) puts in an appearance, helping with tech issues. Emmett and Ria (Whisper of Sin) share a scene with Drew and Indigo. Max and Sophia (Bonds of Justice) appear a couple of times, still working for Nikita. Lastly, Dev (Blaze of Memory) plays a small but important role while also trying to forge an alliance of sorts with SnowDancer.Play of Passion was an awesome read, a great addition to the series, and perhaps my favorite so far. Indigo is a strong female whose love and sense of responsibility to her pack is admirable. She may have her doubts about Drew but bravely gives him a chance, gradually opening up and tearing down her walls for him. Drew would be impossible not to love. He’s definitely one of the most romantic and passionate heroes I’ve ever read and totally lovable. I adored Drew and Indigo together as a couple and thought they complimented each other perfectly, while finding ways to compromise to make their relationship work. It certainly didn’t hurt that there were plenty of smokin’ hot love scenes, too.;-) With Pure Psy ramping up their efforts, the events of this book were also a nice addition to the greater story arc. By the end, it becomes very clear that the Psy Council has completely and irrevocably fractured. Things are definitely heating up, inexorably heading toward a probable climactic battle, and I can’t wait to see where things go from here. It’s left me very much looking forward to reading Hawke and Sienna’s story soon.

The main focus of this one is the SnowDancer pack and Drew trying to win Indigo's heart. Indigo is against having a romance with any wolf that is not more dominate than her due to the example of her Aunt's relationship as being the more dominate than her mate. needless to say since Drew isn't in the normal chain of command in the pack Indigo doesn't see him as dominate to her and therefor isn't good enough for her. To muddy the waters in the story one of her old lovers comes back from an overseas assignment and shakes things up for a few chapters. In the end the chemistry and mating bond prevails between them. Not much on the Psy front in this book but I guess that is to be expected with so much of it happening in the previous one.

I found the first half of this story boring. I had trouble getting into the plot and I wasn't convinced of Indigo and Drew as a couple. I liked them well enough individually, but I didn't think they meshed well. He seemed the goofy, all-around joker and she was so tightly wound. There were plausible reasons given for their personalities, but I still didn't think they were right for each other.

The plot involving the Counsel wasn't engaging this time around and I wish something would happen with them already. I'm getting a little tired of the mystery of the Ghost as well. Things started to pick up toward the end, but I don't think this was the best story in the series. I am looking forward to Sienna and Hawke's story.

    Not the best.

Indigo and Drew have been secondary characters until now and unfortunately that vibe doesn't change even though this is supposed to be their book. Their romance lacks the emotional and sexual intensity of the other books, especially Branded by Fire, which closest in nature.

I enjoy a strong and independent heroine as much as the next person but Indigo's preoccupation with dominance is annoying in the extreme. Her constant hot/cold attitude toward Drew drove me insane and she is not worth all the effort Drew puts into courting her.

Drew is sexy and charming but needs more character development in terms of his role in the pack - the indications of his dominance and internal vulnerabilities come too late in the story.

The Psy conspiracy plot takes some interesting turns, particularly toward the end. This along with the cameo appearances by Judd and Brenna and the glimpses into Sienna and Hawke's growing attraction make the book worthwhile to a certain extent.

On a final note, Singh is an exceptional writer when it comes to world building and characterization. However, she really needs to stop repeating the phrase "predatory changeling male" - we get it, enough already.

I think this may be my favorite in the whole series. I just love the changelings and when the books are focused on them I just can't help falling in love. Drew and Indigo were absolutely stunning together and it was even more fun to see them dancing around their feelings. Or better yet, to see Indigo not knowing what to do with a hunk like that all for her. The plot with the Psy is getting very, very interesting and I can't wait to see where it'll all go.

I enjoyed this book. I really like Drew. I think I would've slapped Indigo on the back of the head several times. She is pretty thickheaded at times in this book. But I will say that I thoroughly enjoyed this story.

These books are my new guilty pleasure - although I am reading them almost out of order. The books simmer with sexual tension, but have a deeper, gripping plot involving the political wranglings of the psy vs changelings. I enjoyed this one because both the characters - Andrew and Indigo, are wolf changelings, and both have some quite wolvish tendencies. As the more dominant in the pack hierachy, Indigo has to come to terms with her attraction to a lower ranking male, whereas as a younger male just rising in his power, Andrew must stop himself from posturing and asserting his dominance if their relationship is to work. Andrew is playful and cheeky and utterly charming. Meanwhile, the psy are making a move on changeling territory with a plot to take out the alphas. Appealing, engrossing and rather sexy.

Normaly the Psy/Changling books are just place holders I blow through while waiting for Nalini's next Angel book to come out. Indigo and Andrew, however, may be my favorite pairing yet. I enjoyed their chemistry and conflict, and the hints of Hawke and Sienna to come were icing on the cake.

definitely not my favorite. it seems like we spend a whole bunch of time doing nothing in this one. so far play of passion is the only of this series to remind me of a 'normal' romance novel. I much prefer when the books focus on the political war between the psys and changlings and the mental aspects. plus it wasn't anything special as a romance. I felt like the chemistry was mediocre and there wasn't enough to have a whole book devoted to indigo and andrew. they felt more like a novella forced into a full length.

This is Indigo and Drew's story. Changing it up once again, Singh tells the story of two SnowDancer wolves - Indy is 4 years older than Drew and her wolf is the more dominant. Sorting the dominance and pack hierarchy out is the relational conflict in the story. Drew is a charmer and very yummy - I enjoyed reading about him very much. I could also relate to Indy's vulnerability - how will her man cope when she has to give him orders on the job? Will he think because they are lovers, he is now "in charge"? I appreciated how the conflicts were resolved - the characters stayed true to themselves but sorted it out. There was also a little more of Hawke & Sienna too, just to whet my whistle.

This is one of the series where the Psi and their war takes back stage to the Shifter romance. There is politics as the two shifters are werewolves from the same pack, both alphas but his place in the structure of the society isn't as solid as hers. She has to balance her wanting for him with her wolf's need to be dominant without denying him his place.Interesting stuff and the two of them are really good. I loved how he made up to her for being a jerk. I can see her finding Kisses in all sorts of unusual places over the rest of their relationship. The two of them were believable as a couple and the struggles rang true.

Review Courtesy of Dark Faerie TalesQuick & Dirty: Ms. Singh delivers with another hot romance. The plot is well crafted with action, mystery and drama that keeps the reader engaged.Opening Sentence: The Psy have been pure, have been Silent for over a hundred years, their emotions conditioned out of them until a wall of ice separates them from the world. The Review:Nalini Singh continues the rich and detailed world that she has created for the Psy/Changelings with her ninth book in the series, Play of Passion. Set in the year 2081, this alternate reality setting takes place in San Francisco and the Sierra Nevada Mountains in California. Play of Passion focuses mainly on SnowDancer, a pack of Changeling wolves and where they stand with the upcoming Psy conflict.Indigo Riviere is strength personified, she is smart and dangerous, and she is always cool and collected in high stress situations. She is the highest ranking female wolf in the pack. She is looked up to and is seen as a symbol of strength for the pack. Indigo has had a pretty good life but when her sister was born with a weak immune system, she grew up fast, wanting to be strong for her family. Indigo is pretty much a lone wolf when it comes to relationships, she likes her sex but when it is over she prefers her independence. She doesn’t usually offer skin privileges but when she and Andrew come off a harrowing hunt, she allows Andrew the comfort she thinks he needs, but when he goes too far and “claims” ownership over her she is furious. Andrew is several years younger than her, and she doesn’t think his is mature or strong enough for her, that he will be put off by her strength.Andrew Kincaid is a charmer. He is extremely intelligent, he is easygoing with his pack mates, he makes friends easily, and he isn’t beneath flirting with the young girls of the pack. The pack loves him and easily confides in him their secrets, rumors they have heard, they tell him anything that they don’t tell the pack Alpha. Andrew uses his position to gain everyone’s trust because in the position as Tracker they could easily fear him. As a tracker wolf, he can find any lost or out of control wolves, and if he has to, he can kill. He could become a Lieutenant like Indigo because he has the strength, but it would undermine the confidences he has built up in the pack. Andrew has had a tragic past, his parents were killed while protecting the pack when he was a young child, several years ago his sister was kidnapped by a serial killer, and she survived her ordeal only to have Andrew take a bullet for her in a situation that should have killed him. Andrew has had a crush on Indigo for many years and he believes he must make his move on her since a fellow Lieutenant is coming back to town that has had a past with her. Andrew fights his feelings for Indigo until he can prove that he is strong enough for her without ruining his or her reputation within the pack.Singh has created a great set of valuable characters each with their own strength and weaknesses. The trials that Indigo and Andrew go through just to prove their love for each other is believable. I could feel their heat for each other pouring off the pages.Singh’s writing is visually stunning and flows smoothly from one scene to the next. Her plotlines are always strong; Play of Passion is no exception. This book was hard to put down, Singh combines an excellent mix of action, mystery and drama that just makes me want to keep reading. As a standalone novel, Indigo and Andrew really do carry the book, the story is contained, past actions are explained, but with the cast of characters, this book is best read with the series. There is also the continuing fight with the Psy Council that pushes the series along, there is also quite a bit of foreshadowing for the next book in the series. There are many points of view that push the story along, although I did feel that this book didn’t have a lot of changes like some of the previous books.Overall, I think Play of Passion is an outstanding addition to the Psy/Changeling series. Singh doesn’t disappoint in her storytelling. The romance is hot and the action intense. There are two follow up books in the series, Kiss of Snow, available now, and Tangle of Need releasing on May 29, 2012.Notable Scene:She knew half of it was an act—but her wolf liked his playfulness. She always had. And . . . he had apologized. Flat out. No reservations. Most dominant wolves—and Drew was categorically a dominant, for all that he fooled people into thinking otherwise—had trouble with the s word, even when they were utterly in the wrong. Maybe he hadn’t been avoiding her because he was sulking, she decided; maybe he had actually been figuring out how to apologize. As a dominant herself, she understood exactly how hard it had to have been for him.The Psy/Changeling Series:1. Slave To Sensation2. Visions of Heat3. Caressed By Ice4. Mine to Possess5. Hostage to Pleasure6. Branded by Fire7. Blaze of Memory8. Bonds of Justice9. Play of Passion10. Kiss of Snow11. Tangle of NeedFTC Advisory: Penguin/Berkley provided me with a copy of Play of Passion. I continue to love this series. Andrew and Indigo were a fascinating couple and I loved how Andrew kept after Indigo when she kept putting up walls. I also enjoyed the advancement of the underlying story. I have to wonder what Nakita and Anthony are up to and if they will be able to defeat The Scots. I hope so since I think the Scots are more trouble than either of them are worth. There is a lot going on in this book and I have to warn those that haven't read the earlier books that you need to do so before starting this book. This book also had more hot love scenes than the previous book which was a big plus. It also shows that Hawke isn't as immune to Sienna as he would like to be. I am looking forward to starting Kiss of Snow and sad that it is the last book out in the series. I know that 2012 isn't that far away but it can be forever when you are waiting to see what happens next. I have to wonder who is going to be the next pairing.

Another great psy changeling book. I enjoyed the relationship between Indigo and Drew. While parts of it were similar to Mercy/Riley, it had its own unique elements and was very rewarding. The other psy changeling characters have significant roles as the overarching plot line between the books is definitely strong here. I really enjoyed this and how the plot continues to build. Additionally, there is a lot of build up for Hawke's book. But I thought all of these components fit in well together and will definitely reread this book.

In exactly one week from today on Tuesday November 2nd, Play of Passion releases!First of all, I am addicted to the Psy-Changling series and am a total fan of Nalini’s writing. So when I saw her blog contest for a chance to win one of 2 Play of Passion arcs, I immediately entered but never expected I’d actually win! I almost cried with joy when I saw my name was posted and the thrill still hasn’t left me, lol. So thank you Nalini for making my month! *grin*Play of Passion is Indigo and Drew’s story. As part of SnowDancer, both are wolf Changlings and so you would think their mating would be simpler than all the other relationships in the series so far, but in fact it is one of the most difficult pairings to bond! And it makes their story all the more intriguing and delightful :DAs a dominant female, Indigo Riviere has decided her choices for a true mate are extremely limited. Not only is she generally guarded in her displays of emotion, but she takes her job as lieutenant in the pack very seriously and doesn’t see how any male would be able to accept her for everything she is as a woman and pack dominant. She fears the potential caveat of being resented by a weaker male partner just as much as the risk of losing her sense of self and power if she were mated with a dominant male. And since hierarchy is vital to pack life and health, the commitments of mating, love and intimacy aren’t decisions Indigo feels at all comfortable making.Drew Kincaid is Riley's younger (book #6) and Brenna's older (book #3) brother, the SnowDancer pack’s tracker, and every bit as headstrong as Indigo. Being tracker comes with a lot of baggage and heavy responsibility, and if it were any other wolf doing the job he might not fit in the group so well. But Drew is a playful soul and a guy who is more like social glue than scary fringe group member, with his infectious smile and affectionate nature. And even though Indigo’s preconceptions of him as a younger and less dominant male seem to her like her worst possible match, he’s not going to give up on wooing her. Drew’s used to writing his own rules and love is no exception.Play of Passion is totally sexy and made me laugh. I loved it! If you love paranomal romance and still haven't started this series, you definitely should asap!
