Terrible voice for narration. It was as if she was shouting not reading.

Let me start by saying this Author is one of my favorites so when I picked up this book I instantly thought it would be great. While others loved it, it just wasn't for me.

I made it to about 60% before I closed the book. I thought that in the beginning we needed to see the back and forth mood swings to establish a connection to the story, but after seeing the same thing over and over again, I just lost interest. I became bored and honestly I could've cared less what happened in the end.

Clay was insane and Maggie was even more crazy for putting up with it.... I can understand that everyone has their issues, but these issues were too much. There was no resolution... I mean she got caught in her room with him twice. For me once was enough. I just didn't feel like the story was going anywhere. It seemed long and lacked the spark that makes you want to devour it in one night. The huge issue for me was the fact that the plot was too redundant.

I wanted to love this book by A. Meredith Walters, but I didn't. At this time... I do not recommend it.

Maggie is your average high school senior with a seemingly perfect life, and it's boring her to death. That is until she literally bumps into Clayton Reed, the new guy in school.

"What the hell?" The guy growled, stooping to pick up the items he had dropped in our bodily fender bender...

"Oh I'm sorry, did I miss the stop sign." I fired back...

It's safe to say their first meeting was less than pleasant. Clay is all anyone can talk about, he's the hot and mysterious loner that never really talks except to trade insults with Maggie. When he finally does acknowledge other people he's usually moody and rude. For some reason Maggie is still drawn to him. Their odd friendship quickly changes when they fall hard and fast for each other, to the dismay of her family and friends.

"And Clay, for all of his flaws was my future. Whether my family and friends agreed or not.-Maggie

Maggie's relationship with Clay becomes her world. She repeatedly disobeys her parents rules, she stops hanging out with her friends, and misses cross country practice constantly, jeopardizing her hopes of a scholarship. She only wants Clay.

"Was all first love this intense?" - Maggie

Maggie tries her best to penetrate the walls that Clay has built around himself in order to get to the bottom of his mood swings. One minute he's fun, sweet and loving, next he's quiet and recluse, then he's angry and mean.

"...if I loved him, I had to love all parts of who he was."- Maggie

We start to learn that Clay is suffering from mental illness, (but I don't think that's a surprise to anyone...) Maggie is the only person in Clay's life that he feels he can trust with his secrets. He starts to become dependent on his time with her to keep him stable and less on his medication.

"This is all I need, Mags. Just you and me, together.- Clay"

Needless to say, things start to spiral down hill fast! Clay's behavior becomes erratic and unpredictable. He's self destructive and scaring the crap out of Maggie!

"No you didn't..." "Are you fucking crazy!"-Maggie
"Yes, Maggie. I am FUCKING CRAZY!-Clay priceless!

Maggie is in waaay over her head and she knows it!

"Clay, I love you. I love every single part of you. I need you to hold it together. Do it for me if not for yourself."

Maggie feels like she's losing him and she is terrified.

"I couldn't handle sitting by and watching the boy I love slowly slip away into the darkness of his mind.

Can she help him and more importantly will he let her?

    How do I really feel?
This was a difficult subject. How do you love someone with a mental illness? It's clear that Clay didn't mean to behave the way he did, it's part of his sickness. Maggie knows that but it doesn't make his actions hurt any less. There were times that I wanted to hug Clay and tell him everything was going to be OK. Other times I wanted to choke him out! This is a hard road for them. I really can't wait for the sequel!

This Book was good , but damn it if it didn't drive we crazy . I must need to stay away from people who are in unhealthy relationships for a bit , because this book really got me stressed ...

then I got a little happier with it ....

“What is it?" I asked breathlessly.
"I love you so much. Sometimes it hurts."
"I don't want it to hurt, Clay. Our love should make you feel wonderful.”

Then I felt like this was

How can anyone feel this is healthy and ok, Yes I get that Clay needed Maggie, BuT damn Maggie needed to be the smarter one and get him the help he needed , BUT NO she let him pull her in deeper and deeper until she was almost as bad as he was with the damn moods and etc.

By the end of the book My heart was crumbling for them both .....

“I have learned that sometimes "sorry" is not enough. Sometimes you actually have to change.”

Now I am left waiting for the next one to see what happens next ....

and I truly hope that after all Clay and Maggie have been through they get an HEA , because honestly they deserve it after the long ass road they have been on ...

What did I just read? My heart is aching, my head is spinning and the teaser for the next book is making me crazy with jealousy. You have done a number on me AMWalters...I am way too attached to these characters. Clay is a broken boy that arrives in Virginia(my home state) from Florida(I went to HS there) following a break down of epic proportions. He is trying to run from his past and does not expect to ever find love. His first day of school Maggie runs into him and then it's on like Donkey Kong. The attraction and need of this couple rises off the page into your head and you remember that first love feeling and then multiply it by 100 and you get the need these two feel for each other. A desperate love riddled with jealousy, passion and unreasonable ideas that comes off the page and into your head.

I need to be able to sit with this story for awhile before I write more but I am starting Rachel and Daniel's story tonight and I hope I get another glimpse of Clay and Maggie.

It's very hard to sum up in words how I feel about Find You in the Dark. The cover of this book along with it's subject matter just kept calling to me so finally I relented and purchased it only to discover how incredibly amazing this book was. I'd like to give A. Meridith Walters some major props for taking on the daunting task of writing about the affects of mental health problems. It's not an easy subject to write or read about, much less to live with which I know from personal experience. She managed to capture so much of the darkness inside those of us with similar problems, all the while showing the hints of light and beauty inside of someone who is deeply afflicted. This wasn't an easy read, much like Clay's emotions, it was a roller coaster of intense ups and downs. At times I felt like I was watching a train wreck, too fascinated to turn away yet shocked and horrified at the same time. From the first chapter you know this is not your average happily ever after book. The fact that the author was able to show how Clay's illness not only affected himself but also those around him, including Maggie is a testament to the authors knowledge and skill as a writer. Far too often those like Maggie who are subjected to this type of relationship also develop their own brand of illness, the relationship became quite toxic as Clay's darkness seeped into her very soul.

I cannot give this book enough praise and believe everyone, whether you know someone with a mental illness or not should read this book. Brilliantly written, well thought out and truly a magnificent heart breaking story. But there is a hint of light, there is a sequel: Light in the Shadows which I highly recommend to anyone who enjoyed this story. Also the smaller novella Cloud Walking is an additional treat for anyone who wants to see Rachael and Daniels love begin to blossom and gives a look at how Maggie's best friends viewed their relationship and shows the power of true friendship. Excellent book. Thank you for tackling such a tough subject.

    This book was great!
Though it hits a little too close to home for me to write a review. It was depressing for me. I know the next book in this series is going to be great, and I can't wait to read it, but until then I'll sit here all sad!

This book was a miss for me, which i was fairly bummed about after reading all the good reviews.
I obviously did not enjoy this book as much as others on this site. Since I'm studying some of this material at school, I'm always somewhat judgmental when disorders are brought up in books. Yes it was well researched, and yes some if the actions were correct, but it was an overall flop.
I didn't connect with the characters and the secondary ones were more enjoyable than the mains ones.

I really enjoyed this book. It's dark and gritty in places, and depicts mental illness in a realistic way. Kudos to Walters for that. It's refreshing to read an author who doesn't try to tie up a world of problems in a nice, neat bow at the end. It would have done this story a great injustice. It's not to say that I didn't wish that for these two, because they sure deserved it. But, I hope that we get that possibility in the sequel or at least a more positive progression towards it. This book ended a little sad, but also offered some hope for that brighter future. I can't wait for the sequel.

Wow! I really liked this ebook! All around good girl meets fifty shades of messed up guy. Clay is a really angry boy/man, and Maggie is attracted to him. She's bored with her normal life and sets out to try something different. After Maggie get's to know Clay better she finds out the anger is a cover up for his bipolar condition. Author did a good job helping you feel Maggies angst of how to deal with Clays bipolar condition. Definitely felt for the character's plight , and the helplessness of Maggies feelings. I wont spoil it but I liked it good enough to get the second book. Kudos to the author, I didn't want to put the book down. My 16 year old daughter read it too, and loved it.

I’m sorry but I can’t give this more than 2 stars.

The premise for the story was a good one and I like dark reads but the longer I read, the less I liked the story.

I felt like the characters weren’t properly developed. Maggie at first came off rather likeable but the more I knew about her, the more I was annoyed about her immaturity and obsessiveness. I can’t make up my mind about Clay: yes, he was sick but really, why would he refuse to take his meds? I don’t know anyone with either of these disorders but it’s hard for me to believe that someone would so adamantly refuse the meds because love works better. That’s bullshit, love doesn’t help shit to cure a mental health issue. His excuses were equally annoying. Boy if they make you tired, see a doctor and he’ll adjust your meds.

I simply couldn’t find a connection to either of them and had equal problems with Rachel and Danny. It’s hard for me to believe these three are best friends, all they seem to do is snap at each other. Yes, friends fight but snapping at each other twenty times a day over various stupid things - that’s no friendship in my eyes. And I’m sorry to say, but I didn’t find any chemistry between Clay and Maggie or Rachel and Danny.

People complain about Clay’s jealousy and rage, but really, was Maggie so much better? She was irrationally jealous as well and without the excuse of having a mental illness. She is just as much obsessed but most people don’t seem bothered by this. For me, neither of them acts in a healthy way. This book tells a story about a dysfunctional relationship in which both partner are irrational, immature and obsessive – they create so much unnecessary drama that I wanted to slap them both upside the head and tell them to shut the f*ck up.

One more thing, the nonchalance over the unprotected sex was quite disconcerting. “Oh, let’s do the math and yep, all is well.” It’s not important that sperm lives between 5-7 days and she could still become pregnant or that he actually had sex before her and was using drugs (so there could’ve easily been unprotected sex), so STD should also be an issue, but nope. Nothing.

In the end, I only liked two characters: Maggie’s parents. In my opinion, they were the only characters reasonably portrayed in this book.

The writing was okay, but felt stilted, unreal and woodenly at times, although that might have to do with my not getting into the characters. The author tells you the story, she doesn’t show it to you.

So there you go, 1 star for the premise of the story and 1 star for the beginning and end although Clay’s letter had me rolling my eyes at least 5 times.

With my lack of connection to the characters and not being able to get into the story at all, I doubt I will read the second installment.
