About this audiobook

Darkness is the only thing I see. Ever since the day my life changed. The day that everything and everyone I held close to me ceased to exist. The day I lost it all and the demons of my past consumed my every waking moment.

I tried to keep others at arm's length. Tried not to let my darkness taint them. Ruin them. Harm them. And whether I want to admit it or not, as much as I wish I could keep them locked out, they refuse to leave. Refuse to let me suffer alone.

If I hadn't been so focused on keeping those demons from flying free, I wouldn't have missed how one perfect angel was able to sneak her way under my skin-refusing to let go. Making me want things I don't deserve. She consumes me. Her beauty knows no end. The love she promises tempts me every time she's near. But that pure heart that makes her my Emmy is the one thing I'm convinced I'll destroy if I ever let her close.

Contains mature themes.

TRIGGERS: SEXUALLY ASSAULT, ABUSE, PTSD, CHILD ABUSE (VERBAL). FINALLY!!! It was just as good as I thought it would be. HS Continues to give you a complete story with all the fixings. The broodiest of them all, Maddox Locke (and I have to say, I'm very much like Cohen, in that I have to say his full name). Maddox has spent this entire series trying and succeeding in fixing the love lives of all his friends but can't seem to let his demons go so he can grab his happy ending. His happy ending is Emmy. Emmy has been in love with Maddox since she moved to town but had to endure all the pain he caused her by flaunting women in her face. After Cooper's death, Emmy couldn't deal and went back to her hometown. Here's where the story gets dark. We learn both Maddox and Emmy's backstory and let me tell you, BOTH will make you shiver. In so many ways, these two are perfect for each other but because Maddox never spoke about his past and only Cooper and Axel knew her story in order to keep her safe it was a complete shock. While it was frustrating listening to Maddox dodge and weave all attempts to break down his walls, when it finally broke it felt like a complete "AHA" moment. I loved the camaraderie between all the corps security ladies and Maddox, especially with Izzy. The brotherhood is also just as strong. I really loved this series and the epilogue in this book really sets you up for the next series which is the next generation. I did already start that series with one book and it's really good.

Harper did not disappoint in Locke. It was everything I imagined and MORE. Locke was deep, dare and desirable. Emmy was innocent and sweet, or so we all thought! Everyone has their secrets, and to find out what these two were hiding just blew me away. I was choked up with emotion and sometimes tears through this whole book. To say that some people should not be parents is an understatement. Here I thought Locke's experience in the military was where he developed his issues, WRONG! Emmy, well I won't even go there, read the book, you will NOT be disappointed!!

4.5 bitter sweet stars! I really had to take my time to think about how to rate this book. I have been a Corps Security Babe from day one! I have craved Locke's story for just as long. My expectations were high. Very high. SUPER HIGH. With each book we knew there was something dark hidden with him and it was a tortuous wait!

When I first started reading this I couldn't stop. My heart was pounding and I could not get enough of him. I wanted MORE and all of it at once! I felt slightly disappointed because in retrospect I think I was expecting the impossible. I stopped reading for a few days and went back to it with a better perspective. I read it slowly that time and took in all the subtleties. It really was everything I wanted looking back.

I will miss them all. The last chapter made me happy and hurt my heart that this chapter of Corp Security is over. I look forward to the next generation.

I thought this was going to be Maddox being his badass self through the whole book, with a touch of sentimentality just to spice things up. Not quite what happened. There were times when the sentimentality reigned and Maddox became this whiny human being, whilst Emma was the badass one in the story. I really liked the epilogue and I'm excited to see the second generation of Corps Security in action.

I love Harper Sloan's Corps Men and was very sad to read this book knowing it would be the last in the original series. (((It didn't disappoint, but I still love Asher more!!))) Maddox & Emmy have fought their emotions for years, but when they finally come together, it's destined to be perfect!!! They battle themselves and each other to find what will hopefully give them the HEA they both desire. Scared of his own past and her future leaves Maddox Locke feeling like he can't get too close. Hurt too many times before, Emmy is hesitant to open her heart again. I don't want to give it away, but let me say that Locke was the perfect conclusion to this series! <3
