About this audiobook

Ellison Rowe is a wolf Shifter who has embraced all things Texas. He's a cowboy through and through, complete with a Texas drawl, cowboy hat, and well-worn cowboy boots. He's also lonely, though he feels obligated to look after his sister, who is recovering from a hit-and-run accident that has left her striving to control her feral tendencies.

Enter Maria, a human woman taking refuge with the Shifters, who volunteers to look after the cubs and help Ellison's sister. Maria too is recovering from a haunted past-she was kidnapped and held hostage by a rogue Shifter and then disowned by her family when she was set free. Now she's on her own but is determined to put her life back together and leave Shiftertown for good.

But someone is attempting to abduct Shifter cubs, and Maria and Ellison know they must stop him. As Maria works with Ellison to track down the kidnapper, she finds her heart slowly awakening once more. And Ellison realizes that Maria may be just the one to bring light back into his life . . .

I have such a love for this author and especially her newest series--Shifters Unbound. From the first book I fell in love. I think this series is one of my top paranormal favorites. There is such a magical way that Ashley displays in her writing that captivates the reader, and every time I pick a book up I know I will have a good time. Lone Wolf is Ellison's story, which I have been waiting on for quite some time. Total bad ass cowboy, that is not afraid of anything or anyone. It was great seeing a more intimate side of him, and get a look into what makes him 'tick'. He has a certain attraction to Maria, who has recently arrived, after being rescued from feral shifters. Her past is murky, and her emotions unstable and lives in constant fear, but we see as their relationship becomes more solid that she starts to become more independent, and is working her way to living her life instead of just existing. I enjoyed seeing the way this couple falls in love, and there was quite a bit of conflict that added a sense of excitement and a unique flair of romance that completely makes you fall in love instantly with Ellison and Maria. Even though its a novella, it was very well done, and it didn't feel too rushed or short in any way, I felt it was perfectly balanced of sensuality, adventure, suspense, and a sweet love story that will bring a tear to your eye. A WINNER OF A READ!

I really liked both of these characters! Ellison and Maria were exactly what you saw, but also had depth to them, and that wasn’t always easily seen. They definitely felt an attraction for each other right away, but Maria needed time to heal. She made the decision when she was ready, and Ellison was right there with her. Friends to lovers, lovers to mates, these two get the HEA they both so richly deserve <3

Maria a young women traumatized by her torturous handling by a feral pack of shifters in Mexico is try hard to make a new life for herself. She is living is a Shiftertown, a place where Shifters are segregated from humans and forced to wear shock collars. She takes care of the cubs, learns english and tries to save for school. Unfortunately, her fear of shifters is so deep that she does not trust them enough to feel safe. She dreams of leaving. She is gruff, argumentative, and just plan stubborn.
Ellison, a massive wolf shifter dreams of Maria. he stays a safe distance out of respect for her and the other shifters responsible for her. That dose not stop him from wanting her. He is always there, always putting himself on the line for her safety and happiness. he does this while his life is in chaos, his sister's mind has 'left the building'.
Everything changes when one of the cubs is danger. The whole pack comes together including Maria. (She brings too much, spit and fire for my taste) She fights, argues and charges into everything like a wild bull. Thing resolved pretty quickly, perhaps too easily.

I enjoyed the story. I had a hard time liking Maria. She charged first, not considering her actions. I loved the rest of the characters. Tiger was my favorite. he is also the main for the next book which I will not be missing.

To be honest, I was completely prepared to NOT like this book based on some of the reviews I'd read prior to reading this. However, that was not the case. I was totally hooked from the beginning. This is the first book I read in the series and I can't wait to read more. I think the book works fine as a stand-alone, but obviously with all the characters it will make more sense to go back and read all their stories, although I don't think it's essential. I am definitely looking forward to Tiger's story!

Read for Fun (Kindle)Overall Rating: 4.25Story Rating: 4.00Character Rating: 4.50First Thought when Finished: Lone Wolf by Jennifer Ashley totally rocked for a novella.Overall Thoughts: Y'all know I am not a fan of novellas but clearly Jennifer Ashley writes them in a way that makes me swoon. I can't speak to how this would hold up if you hadn't read the series BUT if you are a fan of the series already--THEY CAN'T BE MISSED. This was the perfect story for Ellison and even though I read it AFTER Tiger Magic, it played really well as a setup to that story. Ellison has always made me swoon with all his Cowboy Swagger. Maria was a perfect fit for him. This also had a little bit of Pablo in it which for a murky grey guy is kind of growing on me. You just can't miss these stories if you are a fan of the series. They are swoony and action packed!Part of my Read It, Rate It, File It, DONE!
