About this audiobook

Cassie Gambol is on the run. In what seems like another lifetime, her ex-husband nearly ended her life and effectively ended her successful career as a vascular surgeon. But even though the justice system found him guilty of attempted murder, he fled while awaiting sentencing and Carly Sunderland became Cassie Gambol. Fleeing Los Angeles, Cassie heads to small and off-the-map Petal, Georgia, to start her life again. Shane Chase, a man who's held himself away from commitment since his fiancee dumped him several years before, knows the beautiful newcomer is hiding something. He's wildly attracted to her strength and her underlying vulnerability as well. But the last thing Cassie wants is another big, overwhelming man who wants to control her life.

A battle begins between Shane, who knows what he wants and Cassie, who tries to keep a distance between herself and the very handsome sheriff. But Cassie's ex is back and he wants her dead.

This is the 2nd book in the Chase Brothers series and is about Shane Chase and Cassie. Very good storyline but still a lot of snorting from the characters which was a major turnoff for me.

I think I liked this one even less then the first. Myabe I was expecting it to be just as bad, but it surprised me. Again, nothing compared to her other books, the writing was almost childish and the plot didn't involve me. I'm beginning to loose hope.

Good story with realistic aspects about building a relationship especially with serious underlying issues involved. I liked how the heroine took back her life and stood firm in her new beliefs. Cassie takes a new identity in a small town where she meets sheriff Shane. I am looking forward to the other Chase brothers stories.

Shane is such a caveman player that it was great to see him fall! What a wonderful story and steam enough to keep me warm!

I really enjoyed this second installment in the Chase Brothers series. The first book was not a favorite, but this one has much to recommend it. The heroine has changed her identity to escape her abusive ex-husband (this is made clear immediately, I will avoid actual spoilers.) Cassie has a great deal to recover from after the horrific experience. As someone who has worked with victims of domestic abuse, I know Dane got a lot right. This is a romance, and there is a gloss on everything, but Dane does an excellent job of making Cassie believable. I deducted 1 star because Dane writes good women, but not such good men (or rather not believable men, they are in fact very good, too good, men don't talk to other men like that.) Overall sweet and enjoyable

(This review applies to books 2, 3, and 4 in this series)There’s not much to say about these books that I didn’t already say about the first one. Like the first, the main conflict in these is an outside threat. The sex in the second and third books starts a bit sooner than the first, but I’m not complaining. Dane writes sex well. And it’s good that she manages to give us female characters that are different than one another, because the men are largely the same person. I was sick when I picked up the second book, and it was the perfect prescription – something entertaining that I didn’t need to think about very much.

I didn't enjoy this book as much as the previous. Although I understood (as much as a person can w/o actually experiencing something) the issues and insecurities the heroine had, she drove me nuts. I thought for sure it would be the hero that would annoy me, but nope. I actually adored him. The story itself was good and I liked visiting the town of Petal again, but I wasn't super impressed with this one. Even so, I can't wait to start the next.

This story had the right amount of angst and drama. A heroine who suffered a violent past but is making strides to move past it and forward. I found myself liking the woman Cassie was striving to become. I felt that Shane was a bit too overbearing and that turned him into a dumbass more often than not. He's come a long way from being the idiot from the first book, but like Cassie, he also needs to exorcise those demons of his. At least they figured out that they belong together and that they were bound to butt heads a lot but it was in their best interest to work on those problems together instead of getting overly defensive and shut down.

It's probably the curse of small town living that everyone knows everyone else's business and along with that comes the sweetness of a small community. However, I felt that the women in this story moved a bit too quickly and basically bowled Cassie over to get her to open up to them.
Like in the first book, it's a fact that the majority of the women in Petal fall all over themselves to get close to a Chase brother. Like with Kyle, we have women coming on to Shane despite the fact that he's taken. And just like in previous story, the parents as well as the other Chase men all tell the "bimbos" that they're just embarrassing themselves. Surely there's a better way to deal with that without reusing the same method?

Some of the transitions between scenes and POV's are a bit disjointed. I catch myself doing a double take because it broke the flow.

The story isn't awful, but again I'm not overwhelmed. Some of the things Shane says to Cassie are really cheesy, even for a Southern boy from Georgia. Eyerolling cheesy, not "aww" cheesy. Pity the showdown at the end was so anticlimactic for all the anticipation that built up.

I was a little concerned going into this book that I wouldn't like it as much as Giving Chase (the first in the series) because I had "issues" with Shane in the first book. I was pleasantly surprised to find him a much more likeable character in Taking Chase - perhaps because he was the main male instead of a secondary character. I also enjoyed Cassie as I liked her balance of strength and vulnerability. The other citizens of Petal, GA were also quite interesting and helped make the book well rounded (and reminded me why I don't live in a small town).

Much better written than the first book. Though Shane was a dumbass at the beginning of the first book you did see him changing and growing by the end. As this is a series about a family the evolution of all the characters involved is essential. I could see where the author was going to bring Shane before I began reading the book. I liked his evolution and growth. Cassie did grow as well, but I did find the author falling into the trap of having the battered/abused woman being overly adament about doing everything herself and expecting our hero to bend over backwards for her to the point of groveling when she is being unreasonable about a mistake or difficulty that he has. I always find it unrealistic when and author portrays a relationship as one where a single party believes they must do everything on their own, that is not a relationship. I found this book to be geared for the adult audience unlike the first which seemed to be caught in between adult and young adult. I enjoyed this book alot and look forward to the next installment.
