About this audiobook

For Tracey Rooks, life with her grandparents on a Wyoming farm has always been simple. But after her grandmother's death, Tracey is all her grandfather has. So when Eagle Elite University announces its annual scholarship lottery, Tracey jumps at the opportunity to secure their future and enters. She isn't expecting much-but then she wins. And life as she knows it will never be same . . .

The students at Eagle Elite are unlike any she's ever met . . . and they refuse to make things easy for her. There's Nixon, gorgeous, irresistible, and leader of a group that everyone fears: The Elect. Their rules are simple. 1. Do not touch The Elect. 2. Do not look at The Elect. 3. Do not speak to The Elect. No matter how hard she tries to stay away, The Elect are always around her and it isn't long until she finds out the reason why they keep their friends close and their enemies even closer. She just didn't realize she was the enemy -- until it was too late.

Well, I was not expecting that! I was not really sure what this was going to be about, but I was not expecting everything that happened. When this started, it was like a bad high school drama with immature pranks and the mean kids. It was not what I was expecting from a college aged read. However; it took a totally different turn than I was expecting with tons of secrets. There are triggers for bullying and rape. Overall, I am a little torn on this one. I am going to pick up the next book to see if this is a series I will finish.

I just can't understand why the hell she did not helly beat Phoenix or whatever is his name, it's so unreal, she could at least scream at him and not hang out, that's where I stopped. I hoped the female's character might get better but it was getting worse. It might have been a better book if the girl could at least stand up a LITTLE, a damn little for herself. She should have really been a mad at Chase and Phoenix, that's what pissed me most, first thing she should have taken off the boots right away and thrown them at his face, and tried anyway to beat P, whether she might be succesful or not.

2 and I’m being nice. Honestly, it seemed so unrealistic and so childish. The plot was predictable and very unreal. What was worst is the narrator’s impersonation of the characters was HORRIBLE. Honestly, I only kept listening because I already wasted one listen on this book!

The storyline is great. The female protagonist is getting on my nerve though as she was portrayed as naive, and pretty much stupid. If you like strong will heroine, stay away from this book.

Ever since I read Sins & Secrets by Jessica Sorensen, I have wanted to read more mafia books. More specifically with the younger members of the mafia. So I was super excited to have come upon this one.All of the characters are great. They all have different qualities, so they all fit together perfectly. Trace is young, and quite inexperienced with everything that is thrown at her, but I think she learns to handle it all pretty well.(However, if I was her I would have started to take some self defense classes. Or I would have thought the guys would have tried to put her in some or something. It doesn't hurt to be prepared, especially if you know people are after you.) Monroe is probably the best first roommate anyone could ever get. And all those boys are just dreamy. Nixon is a bit more intimidating and cruel, yet he can be very sweet when he wants to be. Chase is more nice than mean, but that doesn't make him any less threatening than Nixon. And Chase is just the funny guy who makes light of the situation and tries to ease the tension. He is the perfect right hand man to Nixon.I liked how it's maybe sort of a love triangle, but not at the same time. There's a perfect balance there. Everything "about the business" sort of comes slowly and gently eases you into that world. It makes everything come together for an exciting book overall. I can't wait to continue on to the next book to get more answers and see where it all goes next.

I received this free eARC in exchange for my honest review. I gotta say, I would not want to attend the Eagle Elite. Those kids are SNOBS! For good reason, I guess, but I wouldn't want to go through that torture every day, no matter who I wanted to make happy. With that being said, Trace is such a strong person going through that torture! A girl from a farm around the snobby rich kids. She has a tough spine and showed it on a number of occasions. I was very impressed with her and how she stood up for herself. Nixon is a jerk and has so many mood swings I'm surprised Trace didn't hurt her neck from being jerked around as often as he did with her. One minute he's kissing her, the next he's making Trace the embarrassment of the school. Honestly with as little as she put up with at the school I'm surprised she took the crap that he handed her. But I guess attraction does stupid things to smart people. I really, really liked this story. I knew a major twist was coming up and I was not disappointed. I want to continue the story but I'm a cheap person and don't want to pay for the rest of the books. Maybe one day I'll give in and buy them, but I'm going to resist for now. Glad I got to read this one and I think a lot of readers will love this story!

Read for Fun (BookClub/Kindle)Overall Rating: 2.00Story Rating: 1.50Character Rating: 2.50First Thought when Finished: Elite by Rachel Van Dyken just was not my cup of tea. Quick Thoughts: Here are things that just didn't work for me (but work for many others):1: This was too NA2: This was a soap opera on steroids (seriously)3: Not a minute of it was believable (not that I need that but this was just too out there for me)4: Read the descriptions of books to come and seriously one of the characters gets an HEA that as of right now totally doesn't deserve it.5: Let me just end this with I read this in one setting--it was a train wreck but I couldn't look away! Aka the 2 instead of a 1.Part of my Read It, Rate It, File It, DONE! Reviews

"Just kidding, I wanted to feed him to a hundred piranhas."

I LOVELOVELOVE everything I have read by Rachel Van Dyken, but I have to say this has been my favorite by far! Sorry Alec and Dimitri!

In this book we meet 18 year old Trace who enters a contest as a request from her dying grandmother. She didn't think she would get accepted but she did. Enter Nixon and Chase.. Let the story begin!

Nixon was a complete jerk from the very beginning. A asshole with his rules and taunting.
"Memorize it now, because as of this moment, you can't touch us. We are untouchable. If you as much as sneeze in our direction, if you as much breathe the same air in my atmosphere, I will make your life hell."

But somehow that big ol jerk won me over.. somewhat, I'm still on the fence, I like Chase too.
this pretty much sums up Nixon..

"Fine, it's just, Nixon reminds me of that Taylor Swift song, Trouble? You guys heard it? I laughed as they all shook their heads. Yeah, well, if I didn't know any better I'd think Nixon dated her, dumped her, and she wrote a song about him."

I loved Monroe instantly! "No. I killed two of them, but my dad covered it up...."

I loved Trace's spunk, how she didn't put up with Nixon's crap, that she didn't necessarily bend to his rules. I think her character was tough when she needed to be, but down to earth at the same time. That's not to say she didn't get emotional because she did. But the way she bounced back from all the crap was awesome.

Great banter throughout,I am excited for Elect!!

    Few more favorite lines:
"Yeah. As in you and I? What you have a cow hidden in here somewhere?"
    I blinked.
"Holy crap, do you have a cow? That would be awesome."

"I need you like I need my heart to pump blood through my body, like I need air to breathe, like we need gravity. Hell, Trace, you are my gravity. Being with you makes me feel centered and whole, and I'm too screwed up to convince you to want any different. I'm too selfish to push you into someone else's arms when I know mine may be the worst ones for you to be in."

Bottom line: Read this! You won't regret it.

4 Stars of Pure Entertainment - Mild SteamAn intriguing plot and a sexy, angst driven romance make ELITE a very difficult to book to put down. I found myself captivated by the mysterious and exclusive world lurking behind the gates of Eagle Elite. The setting is eerily dystopian. In the Elite world, youth is king, adults are reduced and powerless and conflict is resolved by extreme violence. Our farm girl heroine, Tracey, is completely overwhelmed and out of her element upon arrival. The first third of the book, I was feeling Tracey's confusion and pain. She's terrorized, harassed and made to feel miserable by practically the entire student body. Tracey is also incredibly resilient with a healthy dose of self respect. Time and time again she is forced to confront her bullies and stand her ground. That girl's got some serious backbone! She is an easy character to like and root for.Nixon, leader of The Elite and resident head thug, is a much harder character to warm up to. In the beginning of the story, Nixon is genuinely horrible, demoralizing and abusive to Tracey. She hated him, I hated him- even his sister hated him! I despised him enough that I had dismissed his character entirely, fully expecting Tracey's dreamy true love interest to appear. Nope, it's Nixon.OK. Suddenly and swiftly secrets begin to reveal themselves. The plot moves quickly. Identities and motivations become clear and Nixon's appeal starts to grow. To truly get Nixon, one must understand his position in society. The pressures and constraints that his position creates for him sadly dictate some of his bad behavior and hard choices. Knowing all of this helps Nixon to become a more sympathetic character. He's actually a little broken and conflicted at the top and his feelings for Tracey make him vulnerable. Never fear- he remains forever a sexy bad-ass, larger than life and the like, but, mostly and more enjoyably, with this reveal, Nixon becomes a likeable then loveable character. The sizzling PG-13 romance interlaced amongst all of the drama is deliciously angsty and intense. Nixon's and Tracey's hormones, fights and emotions are all over the place. When the pair do get along, the few stolen moments they share are blissful and passionate. Nixon and Tracey make sweet promises and confess deep all encompassing affection for one another. Unfortunately for them, their romantic harmony never lasts long. Their love and trust get tested repeatedly. Their association is dangerous. They are forced apart and their hearts are shattered. Then add Chase, Nixon's trusted right hand man, to the mix. He's falling for Tracey too. What's a girl to do?I can't wait to continue the story when ELECT (Eagle Elite #2) releases this winter. 4.5 stars!

I received this ARC in exchange for an honest review.

OMG! I've just read the excerpt from the next in the series, Elect, and WHAT!?!?

I suppose I should explain this one before I get carried away wanting the second one, huh?

I loved this book! It's my first ever one by Rachel Van Dyken. though I have The Bet on my kindle, and I cant help wondering why I haven't read it yet!

I was quickly sucked into this story though I was a bit put off by Nixon's behaviour in the beginning but I have to admit by the end I was well on my way to being in love with him. But then we have Chase too. I generally urge the girl to go with the first guy but then that would make it Chase and not Nixon. Both are great guys so I have no idea what Trace is going to do in the second book and that excerpt! Jeez! Got me worrying a little.

As you can probably tell I loved this book; it drew me in and kept me guessing. Cant wait for the next one!

Review courtesy of Dark Faerie TalesQuick & Dirty: Daring new adult book filled with betrayal, romance, and mystery. One of my favorite reads for the year.Opening Sentence: Whoever told me life was easy— lied. The Review: Tracey Rooks is very lucky she won a scholarship to one of the most prestigious colleges in the country, Eagle Elite. Trace was raised by her grandparents after her parents were killed in a horrible accident when she was 6 years old. Soon after the accident her grandparents moved to a remote ranch in Wyoming. Trace lived a very happy but sheltered life where she was home schooled. Her grandmother died a few months back and Trace feels like she needs to get a good job so she can take care of her grandfather as he gets older. Everyone that attends Eagle Elite is basically guaranteed a fabulous career with lots of success, so for Trace this is her ticket to make something of herself. But upon arriving at college Trace soon discovers that Eagle Elite is not the fairytale experience she was expecting. The first people she meets are The Elite, four boys who think they run the school. They are jerks that have stupid rules and Trace isn’t really the type of girl to be pushed around by bullies. Their fearless leader is Nixon, and even if he is an insufferable human, he is the most gorgeous guy Trace has ever met. As Trace tries to survive in the hostile environment she has been thrust into, she starts to realize that everyone at Eagle Elite has secrets including her.I adored Trace right off the bat. She is a sweet girl, but she also has a fire in her. No one stands up to The Elite, but Trace refuses to back down and let them treat her like she is beneath them. Because she lived such a sheltered life growing up, going to college is her chance to really experience life and have some fun. She does have her naive moments, but that just made her feel more realistic. She had a strong voice throughout the whole story, and I honestly loved getting to know her.Nixon is the epitome of a perfect bad boy. He is dangerous, hot, and a total jerk. But the more you get to know Nixon, the more you love him. As his story starts to unravel you slowly being to understand why he is so rude and demanding. In Nixon’s world everything is complicated and one wrong move could mean life or death. He is instantly drawn to Trace, but they have a very hot and cold relationship. One minute he is kissing her and the next he is purposely trying to hurt her. Their relationship is full of tension and chemistry. I’m not going to go into any more detail about Nixon cause I don’t want to spoil anything, but I will say that thinking about him makes me drool just a little bit!Elite was something totally different than I expected, but in a very good way. From the first page, I was totally engrossed in the world that Dyken created, I honestly found that I couldn’t put the book down until I was finished reading it. The plot was full of secrets and it was completely intriguing. The characters were perfect and so easy to connect with. The story is full of action, heartbreak, love and mystery. The ending was done perfectly but left me dying to know what happens next. I have read other books by Dyken, but this series is by far my favorite. If you are in the mood for a good new adult book with lots of intrigue and romance, I suggest you give this one a try.Notable Scene:Something snapped. I pushed against his chest. He stumbled backward, the look on his face changed from complete anger to disbelief.“Did you just touch me?”“You threatened me.”“I threaten everyone.”“Then you’re a bully.”He opened his mouth and then snapped it shut again. A wicked smile played across his lips. “So you wanted to touch me?”“No, I want you to leave me the hell alone.”“Say please.”“Please?” I begged looking directly into the depths of his soulless eyes.“Hell. No,” he whispered and then moved past me and jerked open the door. A girl was waiting outside. He backed into my room and slammed the door again.FTC Advisory: Forever/Grand Central Publishing/Hachette Book Group provided me with a copy of Elect. No goody bags, sponsorships, “material connections,” or bribes were exchanged for my review.
