About this audiobook

Maddy Carson is a mass of contradictions. She loves her job as Script Supervisor on a hit TV show, but hates "Hollywood." Super-organized and down-to-earth, Maddy is clearly one of the best at her job, and her strict dating rule - "No Actors!" - helps her keep focused on her career. However, a budding relationship with Craig, one of the executives at her company, may even propel her into the big leagues. Could Wolf County, her beloved hometown in the mountains, be saved from a financial crisis by creating a reality show featuring the eccentrics in the small ski village? Maddy is determined to try, even when she learns that Craig's agenda doesn't exactly line up with her altruistic goal.

Meanwhile, Maddy still has a full-time job to manage, her family to deal with, and a gorgeous new actor, Adam Devin, determined to wear down her resistance. Eventually Maddy must learn to break all her self-imposed rules and simply follow her heart.

Scared Scriptless offers an engagingly relatable heroine, laugh-out-loud humor, and a fascinating behind-the-scenes look at how television is made.

Normally, I wouldn't give a book in this genre higher than a 3-star rating, but I'm moving it up because of the setting, since it was also sort of a behind-the-scenes look at (albeit fictional) TV, which I enjoyed. Otherwise, it's not a really memorable or innovative novel, filled with your typical chick-lit-romance characters (and plot).

Alison Sweeney has an interesting point of view to write a book about a soap opera after basically growing up on Days of Our Lives. I enjoyed the story of the book as well as the writing style. I would be willing to read another fiction novel by Alison Sweeney, thanks to LibraryThing for the reviewer copy of this book.

Scared Scriptless takes us behind the scenes of a soap opera where our main character, Maddy Carson, is a script supervisor. Maddy has a rule that she doesn't date actors but she is dating her boss. She is a small town girl from Northern California who moved to Hollywood because she had always wanted to work in television. Her family owns a ski resort back home in a town that has seen a dangerous decline in tourism, the towns main industry. Maddy comes up with a scheme to film a reality series about her hometown and all of its colorful characters in the hopes of bringing in visitors and, therefore, saving the town and her family's business.Alison Sweeney has the perfect background to write this kind of book. Her long-time role on Days of Our Lives and her job as host of the very popular Biggest Loser give her the knowledge to credibly relate what goes on behind the scenes of a television show. Along with a good story and well-developed characters, I enjoyed the little insights into all that takes place in the background of a tv production. This is a pretty quick read, great for the beach.

Firstly, and this has no bearing on the story, I hated the typeface. I kept thinking it was just an intro...but nope, same font throughout the whole thing. Secondly, based on the title, I thought this would be a mystery and it is definitely not. Cute little story of a small town girl who works in Hollywood on an hour long drama as a continuity person. Or rather...THE continuity person. She comes up with the idea to make a reality show about her home town to save her hometown. Cute, easy read.

cute story about the goings on in Hollywood. Maddy has a hard and fast rule about not dating actors, but meets one who makes her want to break her own rule. She has a boyfriend, but he seems to have his own agenda. Her boyfriend sets out to help her save her beloved hometown but Maddy soon learns all is not as it seems. I hope we see more of Maddy in the future.

Scared Scriptless is a an insider's story of the television industry and Alison Sweeney should know as a 21 year veteran of the day time drama, Days of Lives. It is a believable story of Maddy Carson, a script supervisor on a hit television show. She is a strong independent woman who has a strict dating rule of dating no actors instead she is dating her boss. Her boss is definitely not the most likely choice for her.Maddy is a small town girl at heart and travels often to her hometown Wolf County, CA. During the early stages of her relationship with Her boss, he fends interest in her hometown. He eventually suggests to Maddy that they co-produce a reality television show about her hometown to help their careers and the small town that is struggling during an economic downturn. This is where the relationship goes down hill but fear not the story is a romance and Maddy does find love and her dream job. Truly enjoyed this novel as it represents the true Hollywood. the real Hollywood. I am intend now to read her first book about inside Hollywood.

I don't know this author from either her TV performances or her first book. She tells the story of Maddy Carson who is a script supervisor on a TV series. All of the aspects of her job are very well explained and very interesting to read about. When there is an opportunity for Maddy to be involved in a reality TV show that would be of great economic help to her small town, she jumps at the chance. Enter a production executive with his own agenda and a very handsome new actor in the TV show, Maddie works on. The best part of the predictable story line in this book is all the excellent background information on tv production and all of the people who play a part in what we watch. The author should know her stuff and she does! Read for behind the scenes enjoyment.Received as a LibraryThing Early Readers book.

The author knows the territory she covers and does so entertainingly. Many of us watched Sweeney grow from an adolescent to confident young woman on "Days of Our Life" and she has been in front of the camera since she was five-years-old. Her character in the book, however. She is a meticulous script supervisor on a hit soap and always has the answer and can't stand it when actors ad-lib. She also eschews the glam life of Hollywood and will NOT date an actor. She want sher life scripted. The man, her immediate boss, turns out to be a manipulative snake and she is drawn to a hot actor who keeps courting her. She also has to overcome a lot of problems to realize her dream of running her own show and saving the mountain resort where she grew up from the hard economic times. Not a great book, but an enjoyable and fun look at tv (drama and reality shows) behind the scenes. I know I will read Allison's first book.BTW, just read she is leaving Days....after over twenty years to be a director. I wish her good luck with her new career and her writing.

There's at least one chapter missing which is frustrating. Amazon says the book should be over 8 hours.

I’m a “Days of our Lives” fan, so I was excited to read this novel. It didn’t disappoint. Memorable characters that I easily found myself rooting for or against throughout the story.

This was a cute story. I really could feel myself getting lost in the dialogue. Although a bit predictable, it was a fun listen.

I enjoyed it! Was a feel-good book with a smart, capable female lead that talked about and had more going on than her love interest. It was fun to have a bit of an insiders look into what creating and running a TV show is like. While predictable and simplified (isn’t that what we crave in this romance realm of fiction?) the characters were developed and their actions and motivations rang true. I hope Alison writes another novel, she has a unique life and perspective as well as dialogue and plot that kept me entertained and eager to keep listening!

predictable plot. But offers some insight into the world of tv. nothing unexpected in the story line though. a good light 'read' when you're stuck in traffic or sth. doesn't require a lot of serious attention

It's a good thing I soon forgot the blurb, because the back cover reveals too much. If I hadn't forgotten, it would have taken me out of the story seeing where I was going. There was a lot of good in this book: yes, it followed the predictable formula of a chic lit (it was slightly cheesy, which is fun, not trashy!) but it had a perspective that was less known, that not of the actor, director or often used publicist but of the script supervisor. It hits the right notes to develop sympathy and really root for the main character. This book was quite fun to read! I am debating keeping it for a little pick-me-up for a future date, but am yet unsure if I will enjoy it again if I know where it it going.

Cute storyline. Easy read/listen. There were definitely some chapters missing in the middle somehow (between what said chapter 24 and 25). I went back and listened three times to make sure I hadn’t missed something, but it wasn’t me. There were pieces missing in this audiobook. (The end of one chapter she’s excited about a relationship and at the beginning of the next she’s doing damage control for whatever happened that end that relationship....? We missed that debacle somehow!) so that made it a little harder to follow. Also, even with Alison Sweeney as an actor the audiobook narration by her was a little stiff. It was fairly predictable, but overall, I did like the book and the characters.

I gave this book 5 stars because it is the perfect beach read. It defines the category. The characters are endearing, the story is delightful, and it all gets tied up with a very pretty bow. Alison Sweeney knows what she is writing about and she knows who she is writing for and I'm definitely going out to get her other book, Star Attraction, for my next vacation. If you are looking for an escape, definitely read this.

Sometimes the stories behind a book are as interesting to me as the book itself. Scared Scriptless, which in itself was an amusing read, turned out to be a "story behind the story" book. The basic set-up centers ob Maddy Carson, originally from a quaint mountain ski village, but now a script supervisor of a hit television series called The Wrong Doctor. Maddy's incredible organization and attention to details make her excellent in her work, and also include her own set of internal rules on dating to keep her life smooth. Things get complicated when her new boyfriend, who is not an actor (top taboo on the dating list) but is in the industry, and technically her boss, gets Maddy involved in the idea of pitching a reality show, this one based on the very town where she grew up. As a bonus to the plot, a new actor has joined the cast of the The Wrong Doctor, and seems to like what he finds in Maddy. The plot is not all that complicated. It's pretty easy to predict who is going to end up being the good guy, and who the jerk, but the process of getting there is nice. Alison Sweeney has created some very likable, realistic characters, good at their jobs, at being friends, and supporting each other. As she acknowledges in a note at the end of the book, she drew many of the characters from people she has known in her time in the industry. She is both the host of the NBC hit-reality show The Biggest Loser (at this writing, in the 7th season), but has played Sami Brady for over 15 years on the long running NBC soap, Days of our Lives. It is this background that makes this book so different from others with somewhat similar setups. This award winning actress has taken the world she knows so well, and used that knowledge to give attention to details that make the scenes more real for her readers. I like a book where I learn something, and this one taught me a lot about television production. Plus, it had me cheering several likable characters on. And it kept me cosy on a rainy summer day. In my book, that's a wrap.I received this book as part of the Hachette Showcase Bonus Batch batch over at LibraryThing. I've been following the literary showdown between Hachette and Amazon this summer with interest, and it has made me re-examine my book-buying habits, for while I generally purchase from indie bookstores, I would go to amazon occasionally, as well. I didn't own an e-reader at all when the battle began, but was gifted one shortly after. It is not a kindle. I hope that the outcome is one that is supportive of the authors caught in the clash.
