About this audiobook

A love story for Christmas—now a Hallmark Channel original movie—from the #1 bestselling author of The Christmas Box and The Walk.

Elise Dutton dreads the arrival of another holiday season. Three years earlier, her husband cheated on her with her best friend, resulting in a bitter divorce that left her alone, broken, and distrustful.

Then, one November day, a stranger approaches Elise in the mall food court. Though she recognizes the man from her building, Elise has never formally met him. Tired of spending the holidays alone, the man offers her a proposition. For the next eight weeks—until the evening of December 24—he suggests that they pretend to be a couple. He draws up a contract with four rules:

1. No deep, probing personal questions
2. No drama
3. No telling anyone the truth about the relationship
4. The contract is void on Christmas Day

The lonely Elise surprises herself by agreeing to the idea. As the charade progresses, the safety of her fake relationship begins to mend her badly broken heart. But just as she begins to find joy again, her long-held secret threatens to unravel the emerging relationship. But she might not be the only one with secrets.

This story had so many layers, it was fun, it was intense, it was beautiful and painful. It was a beautifully woven story. You won't regret reading it. In fact it may change your perspective, forever.

The book has it all - a love story, family tragedies, mistakes and forgiveness. On top of that the book is narrated by one of my favorite readers, January LaVoy. Actually, the reason I read the book was because of her. And I’m glad I picked the book.

A beautiful story of redemption...in life we all deserve this ....and we are given this through the death of Jesus, and forgiveness of our sins. This book is a lovely portrayal of redemption.

It was a great story of redemption . When Elise’s tragedy was revealed , you could feel her grief and your heart just broke for her. I never saw it coming . I have read several of Richard Paul Evans’ books and he never disappoints .

I could not put this book down. I had to read it straight through. One of the best Christmas stories that I have read and I read a lot of Christmas fiction! I laughed out loud many times while reading. Richard Paul Evans tackles a few major life issues in this book and they are not the typical ones you find in Christmas fiction. The story is still weighing heavy on my mind. I highly recommend this novel.

This was such a great book to read, as well as listen. You get to hear the tone of the story, and feel the emotions. Narrator did an amazing job telling Richard Paul Evans’s story. Elise Dutton has a secret, but so does Nick. They meet at a food court, and Nick proposes an offer of a fake relationship. Hence the name “Mistletoe Promise.”

While I generally love Hallmark Christmas movies, I don't see why they feel the need to sugarcoat everything. This was a much better story than their network's "re-imagining" of it from a couple of years ago. I always enjoy holiday stories with some type of redemption in the story (my favorite, the ultimate redemption story, A Christmas Carol) and this novel had just that. While the Hallmark film was enjoyable, this book was much more touching because it was a story of redemption.

Back in July, I was browsing the shelves at a used bookstore when I came upon this pretty foil covered book and since we are approaching the holidays, I figured, I’d finish out the month of November with Holiday reads. In this case, the title is associated with Christmas in which lovers are expected to kiss. So, the opening of the book is intriguing. A lawyer and travel agent meet at the food court and the lawyer proposes a Holiday contract or "Mistletoe Promise". To fulfill this - they must agree to share their time together at activities prior to Christmas as the contract expires at midnight on Christmas Eve. Insecurities, personal struggles, and flaws contribute to the characters as well as the backstory in this book set up to read like chapters of Elise Dutton's diary.

Good story. I like the premise of two people joining forces to get through the holiday season. At times I needed a hanky but it is so heartwarming it is going on my keeper self. So well done.

The mistletoe promise by Evans_ Richard Paul Love this story of how two people who work in the same building, he a lawyer, her a secretary at different companies meet for lunch and she agrees to his proposal to be friends, spend time together til just Christmas Day. They are not to pry into each other's personal life.He must have studied her a lot because he starts off giving her gifts, flowers, candy, scarves-very expensive ones and she likes the time he's spent on her. She's to accompany him to work dinners and any engagements she wants him to be with her.Love the easy going conversations. Elise's divorced and has been alone for years so she treasures the time they spend together during the holidays. Love how Nicholas spoils her with gifts and travel, NY at Christmas sounds like a treasure!Story goes back in time to when she was married to Dan and had a little girl...She's getting used to Nicholas and knows he would drop her if he knew her past. She also found out he cheated on her with her best friend. Love how Nicholas helps with the baking of the pies.Tears come to my eyes when I find out what happened and you pray she finds the right guy to be with. Sad but joyful story.I received this book from National Library Service for my BARD (Braille Audio Reading Device).

This is one of those "feel good" books where you kind of know everything is going to work out in the end and the two main characters are going to live happily ever after. I figured out that the prosecutor and Nick were the same person long before the book confirmed it. I also suspected Nick had something in his past that related to alcohol that gave him knowledge about what Elise had faced before the author revealed it--though I didn't know exactly what it was.

Several years before our story starts Elise Dutton’s life was turned upside down. Tragedy struck in a most unexpected way, followed quickly by the breakdown of her marriage. Since then Elise has filled her days with her job and kept mostly to herself. She also became a creature of habit, not only eating her lunch in the same place every day but also having the same lunch. Faces in the food court became familiar. For several days in a row she noticed a man sitting at a table not far from her own and constantly staring at her. Her curiosity was answered one day when he walked over and made a most extraordinary proposition. One that would help them both to get through the Christmas season. Surprising even herself … she accepts … and so “The Mistletoe Promise” was drawn up.

True to Mr. Evans’ style this was a lovely and heartwarming Christmas story. The characters are perfect (yet flawed), happy (yet dissatisfied) and functioning (yet slightly dysfunctional) and all that makes them charming (yet slightly outside the realm of completely believable). But it’s Christmas so I suspended reality for a little while and thoroughly enjoyed this holiday story.

I received this book as a Christmas gift from a member of a group to which I belong. She knew I like to read but was unsure about my preferred reading tastes. She did well with this choice. If you want to give someone a “neutral” book (nothing blows up, no swearing, no gratuitous sex) which leaves the reader with the warm fuzzies – Mr. Evans is definitely the way to go!
