Fun, easy read. Made all the more fun because of its public library setting.

While out on a delivery run to drop off some library books to the Rosen brothers, homebound library patrons who live on one of the islands just off the coast of Briar Creek, library director Lindsey Norris discovers one of the brothers is dead, possibly murdered. Of course, Lindsey and the rest of her circle of friends in town can't help but poke their nose into the investigation, which will dredge up plenty of old secrets.A solid entry in the series. The mystery isn't the best of the series but I'm mostly here for the characters anyway. While Lindsey's love life drama doesn't advance much here, I did love everything that happened for her best friend (and children's librarian), Beth. Plus a cozy mystery that gets library work down perfectly is the best.

Two reclusive brothers are elderly hoarders who shun contact with people, but Lindsey has worked out a system so they can borrow books. When a trip to their island results in the discovery that one brother is dead and the other one is missing, Lindsey is fearful that the missing brother is hurt or worse. She and her friends are determined to figure out what happened, but danger stalks them even as they are chasing down the culprits. It’s a quick read, with excitement galore.

While making a library delivery to the reclusive Rosen brothers, Lindsay and Sully find Peter Rosen dead from a gunshot. But Stewart, the other brother, is missing and Lindsay is worried that he will also be killed or maybe die from exposure. She wants to find Stewart to make sure he is safe before the killer has a chance to get him as well. This 6th book in the series was great. I love Lindsay and all the folks in Briar Creek. I really love their stories more than the mystery. But this was a pretty good mystery too. Got to say that I personally am glad that Lindsay is spending more time with Sully. So I really enjoyed that part. Now I have to wait a year to see what happens.

Author Jenn McKinlay's first book in hardcover is a real winner in her always-enjoyable Library Lovers series. More than once McKinlay has shown a true talent for the thriller side of crime fiction, and she does it again here. The Rosen brothers are hoarders, and this fact provides both thrills and comic relief to anyone who's seen even thirty seconds of an episode of Hoarders. (I watched fifteen minutes of one episode a few years back, and the images are still seared on my brain.) In A Likely Story, McKinlay adds a delicious creep factor when Lindsey attempts to track an intruder through the claustrophobic Rosen house. With narrow little paths through towering, leaning piles of booby-trapped junk, I wasn't sure if Lindsey was going to be buried alive or jumped on by a killer. This is a wonderfully written scene. In turn, the state of the brothers' home provides some great one-liners for Lindsey, such as "When she got home she was going to sort her linen closet just to make herself feel better."This is a mystery with a short suspect list, so it's the all-important Why and How that matter, and along the way readers get to experience Lindsey's friend Beth meeting a potential Mr. Right, something that-- with Beth's track record-- is perilous at best. Speaking of romance, A Likely Story ends on a romantic cliffhanger, and since I am not a fan of that particular "triangular" plot device, I really hope it's resolved in the next installment. As a celebratory bonus at the end of the book, McKinlay has included the short story, "An Unlikely Meeting." Please don't miss it! You not only get your Heathcliff Fix by reading it, you also get to meet a new series character. This short story really has me looking forward to the next book. Write faster, Jenn!

I am already a fan of the Briar Creek Library, both its' employees and patrons. So, the premise of Lindsey heading to a nearby island to deliver/retrieve books from two reclusive brothers sounded like a great addition to the series. The book was very fast paced, with Lindsey in the thick of things as always. There were some good red herrings and a lot of visitors to town this time, including a pair of men that sound like the two pickers from the History Channel. It kept me guessing about the mystery, but not about the transparent plotline device that Lindsey's friend Robbie drops at the end.

Head librarian Lindsey Norris heads off by water taxi (captained by Sully, a former beau) to an island just off the Connecticut coast. The Briar Creek Public Library’s outreach services are reaching out to the 80-something Rosen Brothers, who are famously reclusive hoarders. When Stewart Rosen isn’t awaiting her arrival, she and Sully are both worried. The brothers do not like people in their house and they’ve apparently rigged up some very nasty surprises for trespassers. But Lindsey and Sully brave it anyway. They find Peter Rosen, who has been confined to a wheelchair most of his life, dead of a gunshot wound to the chest. The two quickly exit and call the local police chief. Lindsey’s latest “case” eventually involves just about everyone in town, from the library board president on down. I had not read this series by Ms. McKinlay, but have read her two others. She’s really an amazing writer, balancing well the mystery and romantic elements in her mysteries. Now I have another of her series to add to my favorites list. And there are five earlier ones awaiting … hooray!
