About this audiobook
“Fantasy adventure on a grand scale, with a wealth of wilderness lore and convincing characterizations.” —Booklist
Fans of Fablehaven and City of Ember will devour Michelle Paver’s bestselling fantasy series about one boy’s epic fight against evil and the wolf who guides him.
Six thousand years ago. Powerful mages stalk the land, threatening to destroy all the forest clans. According to legend, only twelve-year-old Torak and his wolf-cub companion can defeat them. Their journey together takes them through perilous terrain and into dangers they never imagined. Torak and Wolf are terrified of their mission. But if they do not battle to save their world, who will?
“Torak’s coming-of-age tale will keep the pages turning.” —Publishers Weekly
Michelle Paver
Michelle Paver was born in central Africa, but moved to England as a child. After earning a degree in biochemistry from Oxford University, she became a partner in a London law firm, but eventually gave that up to write full-time. Chronicles of Ancient Darkness arises from her lifelong passions for animals, anthropology, and the distant past. It was also inspired by her travels in Norway, Lapland, Iceland, and the Carpathian Mountains—and particularly by an encounter with a large bear in a remote valley in Southern California.

- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5I loved this book - and I am just a little younger than Sir Ian McKellen (aka Gandalf the White), the narrator. In pondering why the book is considered children's literature, I finally realized that this beautiful story would have had to be spoiled with adult features such as the ugly violence of jealousy and killing as well as things between men and women that are best left private. And I am so much the happier for it. I wish all my reading from here out could be as blessed.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Loved it as a kid, re-visited it and it still amazes me just how good it is. Gave me a love for nature that still persists go this day and I'd confidently rank it among stuff like narnia, the hobbit and other childrens classics that you can still appreciate a LOT during adulthood. Paver did a LOT of research and it shows, truly her dedication is remarkable. If anything I hope a tv show adaption/movie doesn't ruin it.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5This book is a amazing and energetic.I absolutely loved it.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5If I were not an adult I think I would have liked this quite a lot :) But as I am an adult it was too childish for me, still enjoyed listening to this, Sir Ian does a good job reading, altho it's not my favourite reading. I think it's 3 stars for an adult, but 4 for younger people ;)
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Nice, easy going fiction - Read by Gandalf so can't go wrong there!
